Probably the Best RTS Game of All Time

Starcraft is built on the same game engine as Warcraft II, and builds upon Blizzard's brilliant work in the area of RTS games. The graphics are very good, and expand upon the concept of isometric viewpoint games by warping the perspective slightly to give a more realistic perspective.

One cannot discuss Starcraft without commenting on the cinematics. Blizzard has produced a series of 3D movies delivering the storyline to the game in a way that rivals the best sci-fi films. Given their brilliance in both 3D rendering as well as storytelling, one must wonder if Blizzard plans on making a motion picture based upon the game.

However, what has given Starcraft staying power is the gameplay itself. The AI is very good, giving players many hours of competitive play against the computer. And the inclusion of an excellent map editor gives players the ability to design an infinite variety of maps and modules, as well as to download maps created by others in the Starcraft community from any number of fan sites.

If you like RTS games, Starcraft is the best one ever made.

Starcraft is one of the best games released for the pc in the last couple years. Its not big on complex graphics or full motion video, but the gameplay is awesome. The control is good, better than other games in the same genre - allowing you better control over most aspects of the game. The individual plots and forces that you follow during the course of the game are quite stimulating and entertaining. Like most modern strategy games this can be played multiplayer and over the internet. I'm sure that if you like Command and Conquer games or other strategy war/tactics games - you'll love the Starcraft games.

This set is one of the best investments I've ever made. The gameplay is the greatest and the videos are stunning. The graphics are top-notch. The strategy guides are extremely helpful wether you are stuck or not. A great buy!

This game initially came out around 10 years ago with an expansion pack couple years later. Personally I only play battle.net mode(online play) because there user created maps and missions unlike the ones that come with the game. If you plan to get this game I highly suggest having internet connection.

Simply put, this is the best game ever. Stop reading this review and go buy it now. Online play is free. Plenty of campaigns and missions to enjoy. The online play is revolutionary.

Greatest strategy and multiplayer game I have EVER played..

This game has basically ruined my life and many of my friends lives. I have had this game for around two years now..and I still play it regularly. Usually I buy a popular game and I am sick of it in a few days. There are over ten people in my sophmore class that have this game. They all love and none of us can stop playing it. EVEN AFTER TWO YEARS! The single player missions in this game do lack.. but this is more of a multiplayer game anyway. There are thousands of people on the easy to use battle.net to play against. Another cool thing is that you can make your own custom games that can do anything in the campaign editor. If I had to choose between Starcraft and ever other video game in the world...I would take Starcraft. I would have payed $200 for this game. MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE...GET NOW!....

Wow, if you haven't played Starcraft by now, there's really no excuse not to now that it's so cheap. Even for its age, this is one of the most well-designed and polished RTS games I have ever played. Of course, coming from Blizzard, you're expecting excellence. Believe me, it does not disappoint.

The gameplay is well balanced with each of the races being very different from each other yet pretty much equal in power (especially after Brood War). There's the adaptable and familiar Terrans which are an all-around race with strong defence. The Zerg are reminiscent of the aliens from the Alien movies and are excellent for overwhelming you enemies with swarms of viscious creatures. Lastly comes the technologically advanced Protoss with their powerful shields and psionic abilities. Unlike some RTS games, like Warcraft 2, that pretty much palette-swap characters to differentiate their races; all the races have a much different feel to them and unique strategies.

The single-player missions are a good introduction to the races and lay down a decent storyline with interesting characters and plot twists. The missions are at a pretty good difficulty so that by the time you finish them all you should have some good stratagies for multiplayer.

This brings us to the most popular aspect of the game, kicking people's ass from around the world online ;) The multiplayer is still quite popular, a testament to this game's greatness that people are still playing it after all these years. There's a nice online ranking system and ladder play to give you some fame if you've got the skills.

Overall a great game for a great price, well worth it in my opinion...

I've been playing Starcraft for 5 years and I enjoy it now as much as I did back in 1998. Great game, better than Age of Empire much better than Command and Conquer... no other game can compare...

I got starcraft buy looking at it, thought it was interesting, and bought it. It's been one of my favorite games ever (a major rival is Perfect Dark).My favorite spiecies is the Zerg. I like their mass-production way of battle. The Terrans are human, and my second favorite. They have fairly-skilled units at a fair price. The Protoss are hard to use for me, mostly because I go overbord with production of their highly priced units. The battlefields are awsome, the missions intereseting and hard, and the game is very addictive. Were it not you would fall asleep, you could play non-stop (I had to eat). The game is a great bargian...

Timeless classic still makes an awesome gift.

I bought this pack as a gift for my girlfriend who really needed to kill some time and wanted to figure out what the game was all about. She loved it and we play on Battle.net every once in a while.

Honestly, this is a game that was released in 1998. Even a full decade later, there are still tens of thousands of players battling it out online. That is simple testament to how amazing this strategy games is. With special campaign editors and special maps online, there are infinite possibilities that gives this game practically unlimited replay value.
