During College I played this game an average for 4-5 hours per day and loved every minute of it. Ranks up there with Halo as my favorite game ever. Playing online is the greatest----so addictive--endless strategy--that is the best part about it.
Greatest game ever---when are they making another is what I am wondering.

StarCraft is arguably one of the best Real Time Strategy games ever made. It combines amazing game play, in depth unit characteristics, an amazing story, and fun online play all into one outstanding game.
In StarCraft there are three races, the noble protoss, the vicious zerg, and unstable terrans, which wage ware against each other in an epic struggle for survival. Each race has their own type of units which do not correspond to units from any of the other race and Each race has their own strengths and weakness.
The game play of StarCraft is easy to understand and fun to play. It has a learning curve of about 30 minutes and offers quick aid for making game winning strategies. The game also offers jaw dropping cinematic sequences (in game cut scenes) and funny unit quotes which complement the games story that is full of twists and turns.
StarCraft is the game that set the standard of Excellency for all RTS games that preceded it. It is a must own for all Strategy Game lovers or those who love playing War games.
Not as original as warcraft (sigh)

This is a fun game, and easy to play even if you don't know the warcraft-style control format. The story is a little cheesier that warcraft, and the screen is much smaller, leading to lots of squinting and difficult targeting of enemies. The progression of missions, though, is intriguing. I'll bet that Warcraft 3 turns out to be more fun, however.

I would like to refrain from writing anything that has already been written.. This game is a cult... simply check [...]... Perfect for all ages. Not suitable for new gamers that play games just to see the next generation of "unbleivably realistic world" (and fry their computers in the process). Best pick ever - Enjoy!
Good old StarCraft

One can't go wrong with StarCraft. It has dated graphics by today's standards, but I can boot it up today and still be amazed at its clean-cut, mysteriously cool feeling. A simple RTS and with few units compared with today's 8- gigabyte monsters *cough-SupCom-cough*, but a game nonetheless which I have never tired of. Even as a gamer who plays all the new, big name RTS's, RPG's, and FPS's, I still say that this game is among my favorite of all time.

This is one great game. The campaigns against the computer are challenging, and the campaign editor which allows you to make your own missions is great. If the Computer becomes too easy, there is always the multiplayer, where you play against other people. This is very challenging, because of the different strategies that people use. The diversity of the different races in the game makes it suited to any player's style, and only adds to the fun. Anybody who buys this won't be dissapointed.

If you have not purchased the original version, you're in luck because you can now get all of the spectacular add-ons for the same price as the original game. One of the best computer games I have ever played. If you like Warcraft or Age of Empires, you'll love Starcraft. The aspect that surprised me the most in this game were the scenario and video segments in between levels. Some of the best computer animated film I've ever seen. Definitely worth the price considering how long the game remains fun, original and challenging.

This game is great. I've had it for almost 3 years now and it still is one of the best I've ever played. If your interested at all in strategy games, buy this one. The 3 species are all greatly different from the next, and the expansion missions are excellent. Don't even bother reading about it. Go out and buy it now. Hurry, your loosing precious gameplay time!

You can afford this!!
This is the best game there is when it comes to action/strategy. There simply isn't an alternative. Red Alert 2 is pretty close to this one, but it isn't as balanced for multiplayer gaming. Blizzard (the creator) used a very long time creating this game, trying to make it work to the fullest. Did they achiece their goal? Yes, they did. Buy it to yourself, or somebody you love. Mark my words, you will not regret it.
Great soundtrack, different for all races
The sound effects in the game are great, and are best on huge stereos! Wake your neighbours, and scare their dog with a Zerg roaring!
Play as the overwhelming Zerg, powerful Humans, or cunning Protoss
Get swallowed by a great story
If you are tired of the game itself, try out the mission creator: Create missions for your friends with you giving the mission briefing!
Have lots of coke ready, because you are going to be sitting on that chair for a long time
Warning: May lead to anti-social behaviour.
Brush your teeth after all the coke consumption
A Fantastic Game; Highly Addictive

If only all games were as good as Starcraft! Even though it has been out for a number of years, it is still the most fun, addictive, and competitive computer wargame ever invented.
The game is played on a 2d (isometric view) map. The game takes place in outer space sometime in the future. You are one of three races competing for control of the universe: the Terrans, who are long lost settlers from Earth; the Protoss, who are a mystical race of energy-based beings ; or the Zerg, who are a nasty insect/reptilian/slimy race. You mine crystals and gas and build buildings, technologies, and military units, not unlike Age of Empires. Each race has different technologies (terrans have things like tanks and Battlecruisers; Protoss have things like Templars, Dragoons, and Zealots; the Zerg have horrible beings (hydralisks, lurkers, Guardians). You battle for board poisition, resources, and to eliminate opponents.
What makes Starcraft wonderful is the balance between the races -- each race can win, and the strategies that you evolve to win games can become highly complex. You are constantly "under the gun" to mine, build, fight battles, expand, defend -- if you rest for a moment you will be defeated.
The game comes with prepackaged scenarios that are among the best I've ever seen, and the cinematics between scenarios are simply fantastic. Even though I have been playing for two years, I still go back and fight the campaigns just to see the storyline of the interactions between the races.
After learning the technology, you can play online against opponents ...-- and the games there are very serious. There is nothing more humbling than being thoroughly beaten by an 11 year old Korean kid who is, in this universe, a protoss or Zerg master (Starcraft has a huge following in Korea, where there are even televised tournaments).
I play with a group of friends two nights a week, including programmers, network administrators, and other fairly serious computer geeks in their 20s and 30s -- it is a great game to play at any age, though it is a bit violent for the younger ones.
I have been hoping for a Starcraft III to come out, but also am worried that they might tinker with the game too much and ruin it. As it is, Starcraft with the Brood War Expansion (the Battle Chest) needs no improvement, it is simply the best game ever.
