I had played games likes Civilization, Age of Empires and Empire Earth. I had found this game to be lacking the challenge. I could end the game in a couple of day. Unlike Civilization, Age of Empires and Empire Earth, it kept me playing for a few months.
I would say this is a great disappointment, I had expected more from it. The only plus point about this game is the graphics. It is very good but gameplay - it is BORING
Great game

This game is great. Many of the interfaces are similar to Age of Empires, so if you liked that game you will like this one. The tutorial is the BEST I've ever encountered, so if you have never played a real time game just try the tutorial. The tutorial has eliminated the need for a manual. More campaigns would have been nicer, so I am looking forward to the Thrones and Patriots add-on. Haven't tried the multi-player yet, so I cannot comment on it.

Once again, "tank rush" is the operative word. Makers of strategy games don't truly get the picture yet and this one is no exception. Who ever builds quickest and overruns their opponent wins. Play is simplistic, tactics are a waste of time and winning is incredible easy at all levels. If you want something to kill time, don't really want to think or be challanged, then jump on this. If not, there are better, including some of the developers earlier games.
This game is awesome!!!

This game is very addicting. I played it for four hours the first day that I got it. This game is a little like the Civil War game. Overall this game is very good.

Well first off, its just a plain good game. Although a little like empire earth in some ways it has a a ton of differences that make this game great. The gameplay is great and the AI is excellent. Its gonna take alot of memory and a good graphics card would be nice. But if you don't have all that junk you can play but sometimes when theres alot of guys on the map it slows down and thats no fun at all. There are basicly 2 games to play besides the learning mode. The conquer the world campaign is uniqe and real fun; And the quick battle. Quick battle can be customized like adge of empires with deathmatches andinfinate resorces but its basicly the same thing everytime you play that makes it boring. theres no campaigns, really. So all yuor doin is the same thing no changes. basicly theres no motive to play more. = No new levels. only one type of game (ctw and qb) are really the same just with the map like risk. iF your looking for a real stratagy and not a thriller or action this is it but stay away if you mind putting long hours to beat a single game and then doing the same thing over a hundred more times.
Either way you go microsoft did a good job with this game!
I didn't Get the idea of this game.

Must say i played it for a day and never played again. I really didn't understand the storyline of this game, if it has one. Every campaign has only one map and mission. They just put you in a map to gather resources, develop your forces with endless upgrades and destroy the enemy. There is no more objectives in this game. For me this is like playing always in skirmish mode. Age of Empire was better.
Poor design and play

Poor Design. The World map play is dumb. If you attack (and win) the capitol you get all territories of that country (no matter how big). The battles are the similar to the `Age of Empires' with a few new twists.
I was not impressed.

When I purchased Rise of Nations, I was expecting a new game not an exact copy of Age of Mythology. There was nothing new about this game, it was setup exactly like Age of Mythology. You have to gather wood and goal, and your given cheesy missions to complete. Then you have to advance through the ages, again just like Age of Mythology. If you own Age of Mythology than don't even bother buying this game. I wasn't impressed with the graphics and the game was just weak.
Don't waste money for this game

Honestly, with all the hype you'd thik this game was the blockbuster of the year, kind of like The Matrix Reloaded move. This game lacks big time. For one single player mode has, you guessed it, one mode, conquer the world. Ohhh... you attack, they defend, they attack, you defend etc, etc...... As for the units, they are ok, but I'd still like to know how a arrow can bring down a Lancaster bomber. But if you like playing the same missions over and over for hours then this game is for you. Though, if you down load the demo multiplayer and play that, that's the retail game, there really is no point in buying the game after playing the demo.
All in all, save your money for something else, anything else but this game.
Amazing!

RON, probably the best game ive played in a while. Combining so many things its almost insane, RON gives you so many options and choices. Rush or Wait? Aid or Protect? Attack or save up? Always more questions to be asked. Cant wait for the expansion!
