Dazzling Magic Effects, Awful Plot

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 8

After playing Golden Sun for upwards of 20 hours, I have realized how much I have wasted my life. While I was very impressed by the spell effects and the djinni, perhaps some of the time spent on graphics was more needed by the plot.

The story focuses on children who have brought upon the apocalypse and must prevent it. Yet, the emotions of the various villagers are completely unrealistic and they love the children who seem to be helping to save their world. However, the villagers seem to overlook the fact that the children have unleashed this havoc upon their world in the first place.

Additionally, the constant attempt at making the game unlinear by asking questions, which were usually rhetorical, failed miserably and aggravated me. The questions do not impact the game at all and I attempted to alter the game simply by answering all the questions opposite to what would have been expected.

Over all however, in a world where people only purchase games because of the graphics and care little for the plot, Golden Sun fits in nicely. Growing up in a time where characters could only be colorized with 8 different colors at once, the story was always engaging. The rare game that is able to integrate graphics AND an interesting story is something to be desired. For all of you who remember the classics, Golden Sun aint no ff6!

The greatest Game no Earth

This Game is Soooo Kul! Gorgeous Graphics, A Kul Way to Battle, Replay Value, And Gameplay to die for is what makes up this game! There's one minor drawback however, the conversations are very long! if you hav a short attention span, this can be frustration, but this can mostly be looked over. this game also has a very deep storyline, strongly recomend buying it

Great game, but one drawback...

I have recently finished the Game Boy Advance title, Golden Sun™ and I would like to share my opinions on it...

This RPG proved to be everything I hoped it to be while I was playing it. "What are these things?", you are most undoubtedly asking yourself. I looked for an in-depth battle system, great graphics, tight controls, and intriguing scenarios, as well as other tiny specs that contribute to a good game. Camelot has exceeded all of my expectations and has brought promises of even superior games in the future as developers realize the capabilities the Game Boy Advance has to offer. This battle program is perhaps the best I have ever seen, giving you a true evaluation of your character's combat skill, whether up front involved in melee or back behind showing off your mental discipline! The graphics reminded me of the game Chrono Trigger, which is truely amazing considering that this is a handheld. The controls are very concise, despite being so straight-forward. They were even kind enough to allow you to put spells on short-cut buttons. The villains are the kind that makes your hair-rise, the kinds that are fun to hate on. This aspect gets you hooked on a dosage of hours under a burning lamp every day! You always wonder what they are going to do next. The thing that blew me away was the interactive spells you could use in the course of adventure. For instance, reading people's minds, using spells to quicken somethings growth so you can climb it, etc...

You have heard about all of the good things, but let me tell you about the one problem... This is the very first RPG (at least that I can think of...) that did not finish the adventure on one game pak...that's right...it says "To be continued..." at the end, so we'll have to wait for a sequel for this. I have even taken the liberty to e-mail Nintendo of America and ask them about how they will transfer the information from one game pak to the other, so as to not lose your progress. There response was that a sequel has not yet been officially announced, and they do not know how they will be able to even if they are able to. Despite that, I would recommend Golden Sun™ to any and every person who enjoys a good role-playing game!

how can u say that bout the storyline?

This game is ok. People are complaining that you need a stratergy gide to get through it...erm...isn't that what online walkthroughs are for? All you have to do is type "Golden Sun walkthrough" into
google and you'll come up with who know's how many walkthroughs.
Anywho, about the game. Battling is fun enough, because you can use psynergy, Djinn, or just attack with weapons.
Psynergy is effectivly magic, and Djinn are pokemon like creatures who effect the types of psynergy your characters can use.
Plot 3/5
pretty standard plot: rescueing the world from a great evil.

Graphics 5/5
I usually stick to the original nintendo (yes yes, i know you think I should get a life) so these graphics look absolutly GREAT to me.

Music 4/5 Nice music...what can i really say about music? Not much...i really don't pay attention...

Characters 5/5 I happen to like the characters...your basic goodey-goodeys, its nice to laugh at Garet...

Challange 2/5 This game is NOT hard. If you're looking for a challange, this is not it. If you're looking for something to kick back to, I would think of this. Although the ocasional online walkthrough is nessary, you can usually figure most of it out by yourself.

Overall a pretty decent game. Maybe a step down from say Zelda, but overall an ok game...there isn't much else to say.

It's good, but...

This is a fine game, one of only 3 RPGs that have ever managed to hold me from start to finish (the other two being Crono Trigger and Super Mario RPG) The Djinni system is almost an entirely new magic system. The general outlines of the story are, shall we say, archetypical, (and riddled with Yes/No non-choices, something which irks me no end. Make them matter, or don't make them!) but the meat on those old bones is new, and pretty good. However, one thing that irks me about the 'end' - It's not. They cut you off in mid-story.

Lots of fun, a few flaws

For anyone who likes the "Zelda" Game Boy games, this one is definitely for you. The gameplay is similar, although a little more complex, and the adventure itself is lots of fun. My only quibbles are the cut scenes, in which you're forced to scroll through seemingly endless and repetitive conversations that could accomplish as much in 1/4 of the time... and that the monster attacks are too frequent. Sometimes you can find yourself being attacked on every other screen, which is really just too much. And equipping the Feather to minimize monster attacks doesn't always work; I've had monsters attack me right after I've used the feather.

Other than those minor quibbles, I found this game to be great fun and incredibly addictive. Go for it!

Golden Sun: The Best Hand- Held Game. PERIOD

You can see the above statement, and it's true. GS has many things other GB/C/A games don't. Better sound, and by that I mean you don't have to have a bottle of asprin sitting next to you in case of a sudden attack of bad sound. Better graphics, especially during battles and cut scenes! Best gameplay you can find, and to top off an already heavily frosted cake, best story EVER in any game I've ever played on a Gameboy. Golden Sun takes the basic game elements, and adds on and earth, water, fire, and wind to create a great game, and an algebric equation: BG+ EWFW= Golden Sun. See? If you don't already have this, get it now!

Lets be honest here...

The game is WAY to controlling over where you are and when your there.Sure theres a great storyline and a wonderful battle system as well as the battle graphics are great. But I just find this game to controlling.Ive beat the game about 4 times now and this is still probably one of my favorite rpgs on earth. If your really into this kind of game BUY IT!!!

Golden Sun: OVERRATED

Golden Sun is far over rated. The battles are horrible boring and uninventive. I found myself wondoring "Where do I go next" many times, and that isn't any fun. It makes you think m"I really don't want to play it right now, im at that stupid part. The world map has a horrible set up. These coments are slight exadurations, but still, I would only reccomend this to the most devoted RPG fans. It does have a good plot, and good graphich though.
