Earlier, I wrote a review saying this game was excellent. I am writing this to take it back. This game has no depth to it whatsoever, and is made so that no matter what you do, it is exactly the same. You have no options, except for buying things.
You have to go everywhere in order because you have to get something from one place to get to the next and so on.
There are way better rpg's out there. Take for example, Arcanum. In this game, you choose what you learn, your personality, your strengths/weaknesses, between good and evil, who follows you, what quests to do, etc. In Golden Sun, you get to choose...NOTHING! There are way better games out there...
If you're looking for a good story, be careful

Golden Sun has some innovative gameplay, but if you dig your RPGs for the storyline, Golden Sun is a wash. You get what would essentially amount of eight hours of story-related gameplay in any other RPG stretched out to thirty or so. You know exactly as much of the plot at the end of the game as you did at the beginning of the game. So there are no plot twists, strange revelations. Nothing. If you want to see more you have to buy the sequel. The box doesn't advertise the fact this is a multi-part game, so I was extremely upset when I got to the end only to find out I didn't even get an ending.
If gameplay is all you go for you'll probably like the psynergy abilities and the djinn. If you're looking for story, you're not going to find it here.

Golden Sun looks awesome. It has great graphics and good control. However, this was my first real RPG experience and it left a bad taste in my mouth. There is SO MUCH dialog in this game that it lost my attention very quickly. Just to get through the opening sequence takes about 40 minutes of dialog. I keep hoping that I'll play and play some more and the dialog will get to a managable level, but it hasn't yet. If you like to hear little squeaky fake voices and read LOTS of dialog, get this game. If not, buy or wait for a not so RPGish game to come out...like The Legend of Zelda!

Easily the best game for gameboy advance, the thing I loved about it is the cinimatic sequences, it could be a movie if the speech
wasn't in text. The graphics are phanominal and so is the battle system. GET THIS GAME! and if you already have it BUY THE SEQUAL!
one of the best (and hardest) games for GBA

After drooling over pictures of this game for several months, I ordered the Japanese import of Golden Sun when it became available. So far, I have not been disappointed. Golden Sun has all the elements that make RPGs so much fun to play: a story, new magic and items to acquire, etc. The game intro was the first time I had a taste of what the GameBoy Advance hardware is truly capable of. I'm glad to see that true RPGs are making a comeback to Nintendo consoles.

Never once I had been able to play Super Nintendo. My brothers would be playing Metroid and I would sit and watch wit awe. But they wouldn't let me play, I was too young. So my video game playing started with the first and original Game Boy. That wasn't as good as the Super Nintendo, but I still couldn't pry it from my fingers. It was all I could play until my brothers would finally find me worthy of playing Super Nintendo. Never in my life did I imagine that I WOULD be playing Super Nintendo. Just not the same title. Game Boy Advance, yes, is compatable of having awesome graphics! When I first got one, there wasn't really anything out worth playing. But then, I got a Nintendo Power in the mail, and I read a clip on a game called Golden Sun. It was the newest craze! I had never heard of this game, ever. But I looked at the screen caps, read the articles and looked at the drawn pictures. Already I was HOOKED. I didn't have any clue what the plot was, but I didn't care.
It was NOT a waste of money.
From the moment the game start to the second it ended, I was hooked. At knight I would be playing it under the covers of my bed with my flash light. I would sneak in a short play before school. I'd play on the bus, man I couldn't stop! This game is just simply amazing, a classic.
The graphics and color are just wonderful. You won't want to stop looking at the screen. The music is so cool, You'll turn on your GBA just to hear the music, even after you've beaten the game. The characters are intriguing, and insantly you want to learn more about them.
And the plot?
I read in a few places that the plot is your typical RPG story line. I don't think so. You play this game with one idea in your head, the idea of why you're on this quest, why you have to stop the villains, what will happen if you don't. But is that really the truth?
This game starts out with an attention grabber that you just can not get out of. ANd it ends with the mast of cliff hangers. Fortunetly, there is a sequal, or Book II rather. But this game is definetly worth a try. 5 stars does not do this game justice, it's more like 10!

You should buy this one. The Graphics are stunning for a 16 bit. The plot was strong, and the characters were well developed. The battle animations were cool, but not too long. This game is very challenging, and was not rushed. Arguably the best RPG ever on a Nintendo system.

I can't believe this game wasn't on the list of Best Games of 2001 for GBA!!!! This game is awesome. I used to have a Sega Genesis and my favorite game was Shining Force, and guess what, this game is similar, in fact is more elaborated than SF, and according to reviews, it was done by the same people. I can't wait to hear when Golden Sun 2 will be available, first one to buy it hopefully, because the saga continues.... It took me a whole month and few days to finish it, and the ending is very good.

I haven't gotten this game yet, but from what I've heard and seen, this is a must have for RPG lovers that have a Game Boy Advance. Great graphics for the GBA, a good story line, nice play control, and an overall great game. There are four characters that you can play as. The main character Isaac, who uses the power of Earth, Garet, who uses fire, Ivan, he uses wind, and Mia with water. These powers are called psynergy, and can be enhanced by small, magical creatures called Djinn (Djinni is singular), which can be found usually by solving puzzles. Djinn can also be used to summon magical creatures. Venus Djinn have the power of earth, Mars Djinn have the power of fire, Jupiter Djinn have the power of wind, and Mercury Djinn use water. I would choose a 94 from a scale of 1-100 for the overall game. I hope this review helped you in any way.
