This game is awesome. I went looking for it for a LONG time, only to find it sold out EVERYWHERE for the first month or so. The graphics are the best i have ever seen on a handheld ever, and the sound is awesome too. The awefully cheesy story aside, this game has fun from start to finish, and many different sidequests. My only complaints are the 10-minute talks about nothing and the fact that it is so easy my dog could beat it without a problem. However, it is fun as a monkey chew toy, so buy it now!!
Impressive for a handheld.

This is probably the best original RPG released for the GBA thus far. I say original because several classic RPGs have been rereleased on the GBA, (for example, Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Zelda: A Link to the Past) and comparisons between this fantastic, new game and those classics just aren't fair. The immensity and granduer of this game is amazing, considering its platform. The world is of considerable size, for a game on any platform. The battle system is original, complex but above all else fun. It just never gets boring, and thats a rare thing for a game this size. I never wanted to stop playing until I completed it, and even still I play it every once and awhile. If you're still reading this, I guess you haven't made up your mind and my ramblings were insufficient to convince you. Maybe its time to move onto another review. Happy questing... or whatever you do. Maybe adventuring is your thing. Ahem.

As I said in the caption, Golden Sun is the best game for the Gameboy Advance. I don't know why the ratings aren't high enough as the game deserves. For the people who own a Playstation2 and Final Fantasy X and played Mario RPG in the past, you will love it when you pick it up. The battle system is very fun, just like it was in Final Fantasy X and Mario RPG. The battle system is the same as those 2 games. Those two games are superb, and so is Golden Sun. The graphics are beautiful and colorful, and the animations during battle is amazing. The only part that turns this down, is that at certain parts, there is too much dialogue. After the huge boulder attacks the city, they start to fix the houses, they're is about 10 minutes of dialogue. It gets annoying, but everything else makes up for it. No excuses, this is the "killer app" we've been waiting for. Anyone who likes RPG's will love this the minute they start playing.
the best game there is, and ever will be for GBA

At least until golden sun 2 comes out. This game is absolutely flawless in every way. This is even better than the 2D Final Fantasy games for the SNES, if you really need a comparison. The graphics on this thing look as good, if not better than the graphics from Dragon Warrior 7, or Suikoden for the Playstation. There is a very intriguing story line to this game, challeging battles, and 30+ hours of gameplay. It lasts a long time, but the great background music, the smooth controls and storyline keep it enjoyable thoughout. You are introduced into the game brilliantly and teaches you how to do things along the way. Its bright, colorful, and while it doesnt break any new ground for 2D RPG's, or any brilliant new ideas, its still the best buy you are going to get for the GBA right now. Forget the new Tekken or Sonic Advance games that just came out. If you want a game that is going to be worth your money, you will unquestionably get this game.

Golden sun is the best RPG game to come out in a long time and it really hits the spot with better graphics than the original Final Fantasy's. Also the music is great and very dramatic at parts. And so far Golden Sun is the only game I have played so far that I really liked on the GBA and I will be the first one to get Golden Sun 2. I am really anxious to figure out what becomes of Felix... whoops I have said too much.
The slight and very small cons include impossible to beat without a walkthrough (when I mean impossible I mean puzzles and whatnot) and here is a tip. Start doing the game on your own. If you don't get something or you can't figure a puzzle out then read a walkthrough just to get past that so nothing is spoiled. And the last biggest con is the talking. All you have to do is put the text on fast and only read the yes or no questions because that is all that really counts.
Another pro is the vast amount of god type things you can call to aid you including Thor and Judgement(...as in judgement day in the holy testement. Lets just say big nuclear explosion times fifty ... thousand!). AND also the story line has many twisting points and many sub quests that will give you items you need to get through the main part of the game. So you never know what might happen next. All of the special powers in the game are great. And if you give one person an earth djinn and a jupiter djinn he will have differn't attacks. Once you beat the game and you have practiced a gainst all the monsters you can handle then challenge your friends and beat them wiht your elite force.
Golden Sun had great marketing strategy when they cut the story in half so you have to buy the next one although I think they just ran out of room on this long game. And let me tell you this game took me five hours a night for 4 days. Thats twenty hours with cheats and a walkthrough. Anyways...
This game is a great honor to the RPG legend. It is up there with Zelda and Final Fantasy.
P.S. use a walkthrough at least to get the djinn 'cause you won't be able to find them on your own I can tell ya that.
P.S.S. don't underestimate the monsters when you train at the battle place at the main menu. They are a lot tougher than you think.

This is a great RPG!!! It is difficult but have you guys even tried a Strategy Guide?! I have one and I beat the game easily. If you have a lot of trouble you should try a strategy guide. The graphics rock!!! The plot isn't that great but at least its good gameplay. This was the first GBA game I got and it just made me think even more of GBA. A definite must-have if you own a GBA I can't say enough about it. My friend played it at my house and bought it the next day. I'm definitely glad I bought this game, no complaints here.
Best Portable RPG Ever!

I think this the best GBA RPG because of its crisp graphics, excellent gameplay, and interesting weapons. Since I have been up to date on this game, I will tell some info. The storyline revolves around a young warrior who studies the power of earth. He meets people that use fire, water, and wind. The concept of magic is called Psyenergy. The characters collect Djinni to use magic. So when you link, for example, an earth and fire djinn, you may end up getting a volcano (maybe).
So do you see why this is so good?

I am an RPG fan from the days of King's Quest, and Golden sun is an Ok game. The graphics are spectacular (Of course you need a worm light to see them...)! The Story line starts off exciting and interesting, however dialogue sequences can be trapping and lengthy, leaving you disenchanted at the end of a sequence rather that getting you excited for the next section of the quest. The true travesty of this game is that you don't have the opportunity to complete the quest you set off on in the beginning of the game. Golden Sun leaves you hanging in the middle and many story points are not resolved. If you love RPG's for graphics than Golden Sun is the best I've seen for the GBA if you love the stories behind the graphics then this game isn't for you. (But check out Lunar and it's sequel for Playstation)
Easily one of the worst games I have played.

The first thing you'll notice about Golden Sun is that it has remarkably pretty graphics compared to other Gameboy Advance games. The colors are vibrant and the world is richly detailed. Thus ends the positive part of my review.
After you've completed the interminable introduction which lasts about an hour and doesn't allow you to save, you will begin to witness the horror that is this game. You'll quickly realize that in any conversation where you have a choice, the designer will only allow you to pick one choice. If you try to pick the other choice, you will encounter an infinite loop of another character saying, "You don't really mean that!" until you pick the choice the designer wants you to pick.
So the conversations are no good, so what? Despite being billed as a role playing game, you don't roleplay, but you do get to explore new locales, solve the occasional puzzle, and fight some turn based battles. Except the locales are needlessly tedious, involving huge amounts of backtracking through empty screens to accomplish your objectives. The puzzles are so simple you barely realize that you're thinking before you solve them. The battles should be fun, but they're not. Despite giving the illusion of tactical choices, there's really only one course to be followed in many combats. In the end, who wins is either determined before the battle begins by the relative powers of the combatants, or by random chance if they are balanced.
This game is truly mindless. The characters are the typical sickly sweet children of Japanese "RPGs". The plot is hackneyed and boring. Don't play this game. Don't buy it.
