Well its about that time of the year again. the snow is melting, the birds are chirping and the sound of baseballs being hit by bats can be heard. its spring and that means its time for sega to make up for its lack of intrest in wsb2k1. We can only hope that improvements will be made. lets start with what was wrong with 2k1. first off wear was the defense?? it sure got anoying watching the computer miss play every ball that was hit. another thing, why all the homeruns? i was playing a season on the hardest difficulty setting and i had 5 guys with 60 or more homeruns before the all-star break. its not fun winning every game 35 to 3. and when a homerun was hit, as soon as it went over the fense the ball would go through anything. i mean come on. when i hit a ball off of a wall in real life it bounces off, it doesnt go through it and dissapear. there were good things in the game. the graphics were the best of any baseball game ever. the sound could have used some work. the crowd sucked. and was there any way to bunt for a base hit? the replays were also crappy. all they did was so the batter running to first. any way. sega could really make a huge hit and a n instant classic if they fix all of the problems that 2k1 had. if they let us play D, make the ball bounce off something in the background, cut down on the homeruns, give bunting a chance, and how about a create-a-team? if sega adds all of this along with more codes, animations secrets and other goodies that make gamers say "WOW! did i just see that?" sega could have their biggest hit yet. and lets hope that 2k2 can live up to the 5 stars i gave it.
Don't listen to the naysayers, the game is a rousing success

Rarely have I heard so much bellyaching and crybaby whining as I have over this game. Coming after what was possibly THE MOST BOTCHED Sega Sports game in history, we should be happy the thing was even released, let alone being remotely playable. It is not perfect, but if you know anything about console baseball games, there has never been a perfect baseball game. World Series 2K2 comes glancingly close though. First off, to answer some questions and comments posed by others: 1) The red/blue/clear boxes are areas of the strike zone that the hitter hits well/poorly in. 2) The defense is NOT difficult, and most often the computer will start your player in the correct direction. If you screw up from there, blame youself. 3) Yes, the outfielders sometimes don't turn around to make the catch, big freakin deal! They still make the catch! 4) The fielders are slow? Then why can I usually beat the runner to first base with any one of my infielders? I personally like a ball to fall in the gap in the outfield once in a while, it's called realism. 5) The faces of the players are far from perfect (Derek Bell's moustache being a particularly gruesome offender), but the players are otherwise animated and rendered exceedingly well. 6) The stadiums look amazing, the crowds are 2D but they always have been so deal with it. 7) I don't believe people complain about their trades getting vetoed. How many times did gamers kvetch about "I shouldn't be able to assemble an all-star roster by swindling every team in the league!" but now we have people moaning that "Waaah, I can't build my ultimate dream-team, waaaah!" Go take a nap! My issues with the game: 1) I don't see much difference in fielding from player to player. Everyone seems to have the same general range, fielding ability, and speed. 2) Sadly, too many homeruns. Though this has always been a problem with console baseball games, the developers/publishers think gamers would rather see more homeruns than less. 3) Visual Concepts and the other development teams thought it would be a hoot to see THEIR names in the game. Which is why the Mets' left-fielder isn't Benny Agbayani, it's John Brooks. And there's some joker named Larry Peacock in the Pirates bullpen. Just check the back of the game manual and you will see that 1 player from every MLB team has been replaced with a member of the game development team. Ridiculous? Yes, but I deal with it and so should you. Apart from that, I really have no grave issues with the game. Pitching is tremendously intuitive, hitting is all in the timing, fielding is not nearly the chore that the inept think it is, the menus are clear as day if you aren't a moron, substitutions are easy, strikeouts are an art-form that you will get better at with time, the graphics are silky smooth and oh so nice, home run derby is fun, and don't forget the franchise mode. People, this game had TEN MONTHS in development. Which ain't much, in gaming time. They had to SCRAP the previous incarnation, and start over. I think they did a tremendous job, and trust me, I'm usually the first person to jump down a baseball game's throat when it disappoints. Don't be a follower by jumping on the anti-WS2K2 bandwagon. Judge for yourself, and let yourself enjoy all the game has to offer, it is after all, undisputedly the BEST baseball game available for the Dreamcast.

Last year's WSB 2K1 was a very big disappointment. Not only did the fielding controls [bad], but there was no minor league, and the stats were pretty [messed up]. Bring in your closer in the ninth inning. Your on top 5 to 1, he retires the first two batters then gives up a hit, and strikes out the next batter. 4 batters faced, four run lead = save. I agree with most people about the difficulty of the game. The only way I would lose would be if I simmed a game. I mean, come on. My pitcher was hitting .500 (I purposely had to ground out just so all of my players wouldn't be batting 1.000) with 28 homers by the allstar break. The pitcher I did it with has no power whatsoever. Another thing, whoever researched the pitchers did a horrible job. Jay Witasick (San Diego Padres) has a slider, curve, fastball, and knuckle-curveball. In the game he has a fastball, curve, and change-up. The graphics were good, but take a look at the faces. Aaron Boone is smiling every ... minute. WHen someone strikes out, the catcher throws back to the pitcher and the batter literally freezes. I hated the computer operated defense. I had a no hitter going into the 9th inning which ended when a ball rolled right to my second basemen and literally went through his body. I hope in WSB 2K2 they set up the bullpen a little different. I always loved All Star Baseball 99's approach on the bullpen. You couldn't just bring in a guy, you actually had to give him time to warm up, which makes the game much more realistic, and requires more strategy. I just hope WSB 2K2 is worth 39.99

It is a very fun game that doesn't lose my interest. Last years game was a bummer but now with franchise mode and fantasy draft this game will be the best baseball game out there.

One thing in this years game that they have is Visual concepts.Last years game was horrible.I wasted 50 dollars for that......The defense lacked up, the replay values sucked, and every time you hit the ball it's a home run. This years edition promised to have outfield control and a home run derby (something they promised to have in 2k1). Anyway this game comes out on June 1,2001 at funcoland so pick it up that day.Hopefully Visual concepts WILL NOT Lack up on 2k2.

I have played this game already, and its probably the best baseball game I've ever played. There was hardly one glitch. There were 110 different batting stances in the game, and just about as many pitching styles. This game really goes way over the top. There is a very cool franchise mode, which allows you to be the general manager of your team, signing, trading, and drafting players. Also when you sign people, it's not your general signing, some players want no-trade clauses, and some don't, it's very cool. Then, there is a homerun derby, which allows you to have up to 8 players competing for the crown. The season mode is also pretty neat. You can do a regular schedule where you play every game, without simulating one, or you can play by a rigid schedule, where you can skip over games and go back and play games, something very unused by other game developers. The create a player is also cool, i mean what can i say, you'll have to check that one out for yourself. There is also a totally new pitcher-batter interface, you no longer have to use the R-Trigger to swing, you use the A button, and there is a cursor the batter has to lineup with the ball to hit it, unless played on rookie modde. And this season you can actually fielder, there will be a big yellow cursor under the guy that you're controlling, and you can make running, diving, and leaping catches. Plus the rosters are pretty up to date, Ichiro is there, and up to form unlike all other games, and like JOhn Rocker is on the Indians, its pretty good, except none of the deadline trades were made i think, but no biggie, there wasnt a ton of big time players involved. Overall, buy this game, on top of everything I've said the graphics are just as good as last year, the announcer is pretty good, and the games whole outlook is awesome. IT RULES!

World Series Baseball 2k1 is one of my all-time favorite games for any system or platform. I was only disappointed with a couple of things. The fielder control for example was a huge disappointment to me. It doesn't make you feel that you have any control and sometimes the auto field would miss fly balls or ground balls that if i were controlling the player i would have made. I feel that Sega is going to fix all of the past problems of WSB2K1 and WSB2K2 will be a hit. Sega has promised a Spring Training mode, a home run derby, a franchise mode, a create and train your own player mode, and my favorite part of it all is that Sega is bringing back fielder control. The pitching and batting modes and styles of play will be awesome and the new stadium(s) and updated rosters of the 2001 season are at hand. For all of you out there that hate losing your saved game data(i'm one) you can even save your lineups and anything else on your VMU. Season modes and everything else that went fine with WSB2K1 is all still there and although im only 15 i think that World Series Baseball 2k2 will be Sega's best baseball game ever and it will also be a hit game.

I am very excited for wsb 2k2 to come out. I hated wsb2k1 because sega pushing the release date back and no hr derby or fielder control or no creating teams. The fans were horrible the graphics were good but gameplay was bad and so were the anouncers. I like that 2k2 is going to have a franchise mode. So you can play many years. on 2k1 there was no recorded errors so everyone in the league could get a gold glove if the awareded them. almost impossible to get a triple and bunt for a hit. and they you could nt play two players on a team or 2 players in a season mode. I think is would be fun to play a world series against my friend. 2k2 is going to be the best. i hope that pitching is more realistic and easier. I hate that it get released so late in the season but i like it because it is after the trading deadline. i hope sega steps it up this year.
