Wow it could have been better

I will get straight to the problems.First you can only create three players total.Second after a Franchise season you have to release who ever is out of a contract, you cant even attempt to resign him.So you have to try to get him back in a fantasy draft instead of being able to resign him. Now I expected a little more from the gameplay. When you hit the ball it is 90% of the time a line drive.Sometimes the screen cant even keep up with the ball. There is also only one fielding view which looks like your sittting in the bleachers.Second I love the minor leaguers option but if your not that team you cant accquire the player that you like from another.Lastley in a actual game(not a home run derby), you're not even given the distance. It's obvious the game has improvements but they took away the few things that were good in WS2K1.I will stil play it because it's the only baseball game for dreamcast.

Too much hype

Overall, this is just slightly better than WSB2K1. Sounds, announcers, and graphics have improved. What I don't like are the following:

Create a Player: Not much to create. You had more options with 2K1. You can't even create your own batting stance. The stances they designed for actual ball players have actually gotten worse. Sosa's, McGwire's, Bagwell's, etc.. are better on 2K1. Some of the pitching windups are better on the original game as well. Nomo is a good example on this gripe. Some missing detail in a few of the stadiums.

The Create a Player mode is the most disappointing feature of the game. Hopefully a few game codes will come out showing us unique stadiums or players. If I could, I would have rated this a 3.5

I was very disappointed

When I first bought Dreamcast I wanted some good sports games. I got a good game out of NFL2K1 and wanted a good baseball game. I did not purchase WSB2K1 since WSB2K2 was coming out soon. I was extremly disappointed by the terrible announcing, inaccurate pitches, and "exclusive ratings" which were represented by a little bar. No individual ability ratings, just a little bar for overall rating. If I have to keep listening to that announcer,I might go crazy and break the game in half. He has no life in his voice and no excitement when you hit a homer or make a great play. The rosters are very updated and gameplay is ok except that you can't judge a ball hit down the line. You end up running toward the diamond when the ball is carrying toward the wall and vise-versa. If the ball is hit in the hole at short and you are moving to the left and you miss it, your outfielder is not in position to field it because he is running to the left, going past the ball. Overall the game isn't terrible but there are some aspects that ARE terrible. I suggest you save your money on WSB2K2 and get another game.

my problems with the game

homerun derby rules are completely made up: you get a number of pitches, not a number of outs. documentation is ridiculous, a 4th grader must've written it, it is wrong in many instances, and is pointless. throwing it away as soon as u buy the game is a good idea - it will save you from lots of frustration. franchise mode is pathetic: there is no free agent contract signing - all the free agents are put into a pool and you draft them. second, one to one trading? give me a break.

playoff mode - you cannot choose the difficulty of play in this mode, it just kinda picks for itself. the game is decent, not good and definitely not great. i think they must have put in a lot of modes as a sales gimmick, but trust me, rent it before you buy it. you'll see just as i found out that the modes are for show and lack substance.

theres 1 problem!

world series baseball 2k2 is a very good game...it is much better than last years game, but i think there is one problem...too many homeruns! if u get the batting curser underneath the ball just slighty, the ball leaves the yard with no problem....but besides that, i think the game is a major success!!

Better'n 2K1. Kinda.--A Red Sox Fan

I gotta say, there are some things I miss about 2K1 after playing 2K2. While the addition of defense improves the game immensely and, overall, the game *plays* better than 2K1 did, this new version has many hallmarks of a game that was rushed into production.

First off, where are the amazing graphics? The graphics are definitely a step backward from WSB2K1; while the pitchers and batters have somewhat realistic stances, the faces and bodies are nowhere near as distinct from one another as they were in the previous version. Since the graphics were, in large part, the only good thing about 2K1, it would've been nice if they could've held on to them.

Second, where's Brian Daubach? The Red Sox first baseman is nowhere to be seen, replaced by some mysterious stranger named Novak. I'm not sure if this is because of contract problems or simple carelessness, but it'd sure be nice to have the *actual players* on the field. I've only been playing the Sox, so I can't say whether this is a problem with other teams as well, but it's disappointing.

And in the same vein, the game is missing an awful lot of headshots--Bret Saberhagen, for instance, isn't exactly a nonentity, but you'll find his photo nowhere in the game.

Third, the announcer, while marginally better than 2K1's, is still pretty stinkin' bad. When he's calling pitches, he gets "inside" and "outside" mixed up with regularity; balls pitched anywhere from head to toe, from the brushback to the WAY WAY WAY outside pitch are often described as "right through the center of the wheelhouse;" and at one point last night, a 2-out K was described as an inning-ending double play.

Fourth--and maybe this is just because I suck--unless the ball is hit directly to an infielder, it can be very, very hard to get them to make the play. The way the fielding works is, as the ball's hit, the fielder takes a step or two toward it before being relinquished to your control; unless you've already got the stick moving in the right direction (magically knowing, of course, which fielder is *going* to be under your control), the fielder then stops and watches the ball roll into the outfield. Maybe I'll get better at timing this; I don't know. I had at least one annoying play last night where the ball went back up the middle, to the right of the pitcher; the CPU gave me control of the pitcher long enough for me to shift the stick to the right, and then it switched me to control of the 2nd baseman, who *would* have been in a perfect position to make the play, had he not taken off running to the right as soon as I got control of him and before I could shift the stick back to center.

Fifth, the documentation S*U*C*K*S. Onscreen prompts are generally unhelpful--in one screen there are two buttons that're marked "simulate" but that do entirely different things. The manual is not much help beyond the basics, although they did have the foresight to put in a Pedro centerfold, for which a multitude of sins may be forgiven.

Sixth, who the hell is the CPU to tell me I can't make a trade? I wanted to pick up Ugueth Urbina, who the Sox snagged from Montreal just before the trading deadline for Tomokazu Ohka and a couple of no-name minor leaguers. So I put up Ohka for Urbina... and the CPU "rejected" the trade! ..., if I want to pack my team with godlike pitchers and the best sluggers in both leagues, I ought to be allowed to do just that.

All that aside, I'm enjoying this game more than I did 2K1. There are fewer enjoyment-destroying bonehead moves, especially in baserunning, than in the predecessor; the addition of a farm system and free agents is super-cool; create-a-player is great; the home-run derby, while incredibly simplistic, is kinda fun; the batter-pitcher interface is almost as good as the one in 2k1; the pitches, though slow, break realistically (and boy is it fun to watch the knucklers wiggle all over creation as they float in). I'll be holding onto this one until something better comes along, which, since Sega's said buh-bye to the dreamcast, is likely to be never.

so so could be beter

Fisrt of all waiting till August to release you would think more glitches would be worked out. I bought the game and immeadiately hated it. But i continued to play and it has grown on me. The worst thing about game is the manual is pathetic. Maybe they want you to figure things out on your own but it will cause lots of frustrations. Why do outfielders catch the ball with their backs to you? Why is the menu so aggrevating? Oh well, it's still the best baseball game I've played although baseball games aren't usually very good on consoles. My correct email is ... Oh yeah who is the announcer? He blows- same thing over and over... I have about got the game wired. If anyone needs hints email me. But if someone can explain the red, blue and clear squares in the batting screen I'd appreciate it.

buy it !!!!

This game is awsome!!! it is so worth the forty dollars I paid. Let me start by saying the graphics are better than WSB2K1. The gameplay is awesome. Its so realistic. I got it two days ago and I can't stop playing. its really fun. I saw some reviews of people saying it was to easy to hit a home run, well then change the game to a more difficult level. The anouncing is better than WSB2K1 also. they even have the players batting stances. They blink, the players on the game blink. VC really went all out on this game!

For those of us who have not bought the awesome PS2, this game is definitely worth getting. There is not a baseball game that even comes close to this one when you look at the available titles for PS1 or N64. With the exception of Griffey on N64. But even then, the graphics can not compete with WSB 2k2. If you do own a PS2, then you might want to check out some of the baseball games that it has to offer. But all in all, this game has a lot to offer and is definitely worth the [price]. Graphics are great. Play control is awesome. Good amount of options although it could use a little more. Sound is ok but the crowd sounds could be a little more realistic. Anyone who buys this game and is not happy with it, either has played way too many games and is too critical or they do not like the game of baseball.

Good, but i think they could have made better

This game is an overall good game. But there are some bad things.

1.) The outfeilders sometimes catch the ball with their backs, and it looks stupid . Also the outfeilders sometimes do a pee dance waiting for a fly ball.

2.) The anouncer says stupid things sometimes. Such as "a pop fly to the second baseman" but it is really a grounder.

But there are also some really cool things in the game.

1.) Is when playing francis mode, you can bring up and send people down to the mirnor league. And the minors players are real players!!

2.) In WSB 2k2 you can feild the ball, unlike 2k1 which the cpu does it for you.

3.) Their is a home run derby. But whats bad about it is that home runs count as outs, and there isnt a way to turn it off.

4.) They have real cool stats for the players. They have cold and hot hiting zones.

I might have given this game 4 stars but i think it is more of 3 1/2 stars. So i gave it 3
