Good game exactly what i said but could be better, What is up with no hop from big Sammy when hiting a dinger. Its hard to understandat first but when u get the hang ofit go for te ring. When ur Barry Bonds its awesome cause his stance is just like his real life so is Gary Sheffield its awesome. This game is good but not great. If you like baseball though and have dreamcast and were very dissapointed i last years WSB2K1 then this is the game for u. But all i ca say is the title "Good Game"

I just bought the game and have only played it for an hour so far. What I have seen form 2k2 so far is that it has improved on the features but the graphics are inferior to last years game and most baseball games on the market right now. Maybe next time, if there is one, dreamcast can put the whole package together.

I stayed away from WSB2k1 because of the universally poor reviews it received - no fielding, stupid batting interface, and basically no fun. I've been wanting a good baseball game for the DC ever since, and the last 3 weeks were torturous, what with all the delays. To my great astonishment and delight, I was able to snag a copy of WSB2K2 last night, and now I'm a much happier person. It's not a perfect game, but it's good enough...
Before I delve full-bore into this review, let me stress that I have not gone online with it, and I probably won't go online with it; I'm just not really interested in online gaming. So I don't know how well the online game works.
First, the bad news:
1. This is going to sound wierd, but the manual is horrendously incomplete. If you want to know how to pick off a guy at 1st, you'd better have some good eyesight, because it's barely mentioned. Franchise mode is totally unexplained, other than it exists - same with explanations of all the other modes, difficulty settings, etc.
2. The interface is clunky and non-intuitive. Last night my roommate and I played a quick exhibition game, and the score was something like 21-3. I wanted to see the box score when the game was over; it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to get it.
3. The home-run derby is weak. Regardless of difficulty settings, you will always get an 85mph fastball right down the pipe. Also, the camera does a poor job of tracking your home runs - if I hit a 520-foot job, I wanna see it fly into the parking lot - I don't want the camera flying into the wall. Also, and most unforgiveable, I couldn't not figure out how to make it 2-player, besides just handing off the controller between batters.
4. The announcing is a wee bit out of sync with the action. At one point, I had just struck out a batter, and the announcer said, "A very nicely turned unassisted double play." But that isn't really that distracting. The announcer WILL make mistakes in Home Run Derby, though, and sometimes you can get pretty confused. I did a HRD at Enron field and hit a few short of the center field wall that the announcer called home runs, and I hit a few that were home runs, and were scored home runs, but the announcer said "He didn't get enough of that one."
5. If you have a season in progress, you can't play HRD unless you remove the VMU. I don't know why.
Now, the good, and boy is it ever:
Graphically, the game is really beautiful where it matters most - the player animations and the field itself. The stands are a little ugly, but I mean, come on, who cares what the stands look like when you're down 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th.
Fielding is hard, but doable. I've played the game for a total of 1 day, so my outfielders tend to over-run a lot (I've never seen so many bloop triples); I would expect that as I get more adept at the game, I'll learn to anticipate where to go. You do have the options of positioning your defense, which is great, although I haven't really used it yet. When you're playing the CPU, it pretty much always hits rockets past your infielders; by the same token, they tend to do that when you hang fat juicy pitches over the plate.
Pitching and batting are really easy to pick up, which is fortunate since the manual is so vague. In 2-player mode, against a human opponent in the same room, it's tough to hide your desired pitch location (unlike in NFL2k1, where it was really easy to disguise your formations and play selections). It would be nice to have pitch location on the VMU, instead.
I'm a bit of a stat-head, and there are lots of stats to monitor, although I've only played one game in my season and haven't really hunkered down and studied them.
Baseball has to be the hardest game to electronically recreate, as it has the most variables out of any sport. Anything can happen at any given moment, and a game can only be prepared for so much. This game is a very solid effort, one that I will enjoy as long as my DC continues to work; it does give me great hope for its future on other platforms. Some suggestions for 2k3 and onwards:
1. Wind and weather physics - how batted balls react to strong winds, hot/cold/rainy weather, etc.
2. "Smart" Commentary - noticing hitting streaks or other "odd" phenomena, having more vocal inflection when announcing a lopsided score, etc.
3. In franchise mode, have variable audience attendance. Yankees-Red Sox should be close to sold out, Devil Rays-Royals should be empty. And if you play the Rays for a season, and you start winning, the audiences should get bigger - thus generating more revenue with which to sign better players... that's very simplistic, of course, and I'd like to have it more realistic than that.
Of course, I'm not expecting all that. I wanted a baseball game that looked great and played better, and WSB2K2 comes through. It's certainly not perfect, and I'm sure that they could have tweaked a few more things if they had more time (although I would have been miserable), but what's there is good enough and certainly doesn't diminish a fun baseball experience.
I gave this four only cause I don't know how to do 4 1/2

This game is a very good gamedespite what some people say. My only problem is that if you have started a season or a franchise or something you can't start anything else without deleting that game file. Overall it is a very good improvement over last year with your own fielding.
good gameplay, disappointing graphics alot of options

That title would sum up this game... I own and Ps2 and Dreamcast and what really looking forward to this game. I currently own high heat baseball for Ps2 and All-star baseball for Ps2, I wanted a game that would blend those two games together hoping that the dreamcast title would be the ultimate game. Well they came pretty close, however with all the delays of when this game was going to be released and then to released this it's a little disappointing.
Pros: options ( alot of them) flexiblity of customizing your rosters, making trades to mirror the big league clubs of today can be done by making trades in season mode and then saving them to your memory card and you can load them in exhibition mode, I thought that was a nice feature, that is were All-star baseball dropped the ball, the lack of customizing your teams. you can even play a entire season using all the teams something only high heat and the newest from dreamcast will allow you to do, All-star baseball only allows you one team to venture into a season, You can even choose how many innings you'd like to play rather than going the customary 9.
Defense and pitching are great, you can actually strike computer guys out on called third strike, never happens in ABS hitting is alittle challenging but once your eye gets used to the speed of the ball you will be hitting them all over the yard. The runners speed are very realistic in terms of stretching bases, easy to control as well, meaning you hit a ball to the gap, you can turn it into a trple if you have a good runner, i noticed that in ASB it's virtually impossible.
Cons: graphics of the players and stadiums lack the detail from last years version, WHY??? you got it right one year how can't you do it again, i realize that it's made by a new company visual concepts but these are the same guys that brought us NFl 2k nad Nba 2k. if you ever seen High heat basbeall for the playstation, those are horrible, these are not that bad but ASB still has the best looking guys in anygame to date, in terms of body size, weight etc, it adds to the realism, also wrigley field grand stands behind home plate are not rendered properly, ASB got everything down to a tee,
Also not being able to adjust the depth of your oufilelders hurts this game, for overall realism, you can do it with the infileders but not with the outfileders WHY again.
overall it is a very good game, a much better game from last years in terms of game play, the only real knock is the subpar graphics and lack of detail that visual concepts usually don't drop the ball on.

Do not buy this game. The graphics are worse than last years, there is no option to have automatic baserunning or fielding. If your infielder dives for a ball and misses then your outfielder will be running the wrong way. There is only single man commentary who makes wrong calls in many cases. You cannot adjust the depth of your outfielders only infielders. There is only one camera angle. I cant believe this is from Visual Concepts and they delayed this piece of garbage. Im thinking about selling my Dreamcast this is so bad.I just wanted to add some more problems with this game...you cannot adjust how many innings you want to play on a season game. they did not update trades like fred mcgriff that happened weeks ago and the online play is slow and you cannot write to each other. This was the final straw goodbye dreamcast i will miss nba2k1,nfl2k1 and metropolis street racer but not this game.

Yes it was very dissapointing, but in this one you'll be able to do Franchise mode and drafts. U will have total control of fielding so the computer won't run away from fly balls or decide to cover the bag instead of getting a pop or grounder. The batting will be easier, using the A button. I dont want to sound like some salesguy, but at [price] it's okay even if it's only a little better than 2K1.

I had the chance to test this game for an hour or so while i was at the all star fanfest in seattle on all star weekend and it was awsome. It is a 100% better than last years version. The graphics are much improved, there is fluid animation, real life batting stances(over 110 different),and it was just flat out fun to play. The franchise mode was the best i'd ever seen. I was able to sign Pedro off free agency because he asked boston for a 6 year 100 million dollar deal and a no realease and no trade clause i couldn't believe the realism involved this game. It's a must buy i have already pre-ordered it and can't wait for it. Go get it now!

I think Sega did an outstanding job with this video game I think it is alot easier than 2K1.Batting for instants it is hard at first for kids because when they are batting they can't see the pitch but in 2K2 it is alot easier . You can't field in 2K1 but, in 2K2 you can field the ball by yourself.I think that Sega did a superb job with improving the game.
