It's a food game except for one thing you cant see where the ball is going. Everything else is good if you simulate a season and you make a line up of star players they stink. If you do that otherwise their good. The graphics are incredible, there so realistic. I recomend renting before you buy. The last thing is that the game is completely auto feilding. You cant field by your self that stinks.

This game had the most potential ever in the history of sports games. Well, All that potential was flushed right down the toliet wehn Sega Created a game with AUTO-FIELDING. The game has Great Graphics. Good Discriptions of batters stances and Pitchers Stances. It also has Very close Rosters. Once you get this game you really dont have to make that many trades to have the game up to date. The Second Bad thing about this game is that there is no Home-Run-Durby. If You really wanna go yard in this game alot, your gonna have to set the game to amatauer and club homers in a game. The 3rd bad thing about this is that in playoffs you cant choose who you wanna be. Suppose I wanted to play YANKEES VS. ATLANTA in the World Series, I would have to keep exiting playoffs till I got the teams I wanted. ANYWAY, BACK TO AUTO FEILDING. Sometimes in this game The computer makes some good plays. I suggest that you put the Outfield Shallow on every play. Balls will drop in every time. If you want a baseball game just to Field, hit home runs with and play world series hold your money wait till next year and buy ESPN BASEBALL TONIGHT. Hold your games if you bought WSB2K1. Sega will probably have a place where you can go return your game for a refund since they lied.
Dont dwell on what the critics have to say...

Wsb2k1 for the dreamcast is a solid first attempt at baseball for the dreamcast. Since i only have limited space for this review, i will get to the heart of it. First let me tell you that the game is graphically superior to all console games on the market.(console meaning video game systems, not computer) The stadiums are remarkably accurate in amazing detail right down to buildings and highways outside of the stadiums. The player models are on par with all the other sega sports games and all of your favorite players have all their own batting and pitching styles. The pitching and batting interface is tight and is easy to get used to. The create a player mode is probably the best i have ever seen in a console baseball game and the team edit/gm mode is a very nice touch. With all that being said, there are still some problems with the game. Personally, my biggest complaint is the play by play commentary. It reminded me of the old mlbpa sports talk baseball games for the genesis. It is so bad that I turn the sound down so i dont have to hear the robotic voice drone on and on. They should have had a color commentrary guy with the play by play. This is the only real feature that seemed rushed and incomplete. The other problem for some people is the fielding engine. Now, personally I dont have a problem with it. But there are people out there that dont like the idea of not having the ability to fully control your fielders. People feel like they got cheated. Well, my statement to them is: Doesnt every baseball game give you the ability to choose cpu assist from the game options menu? Its the same thing, the cpu does all the fielding for you, all you have to do is throw the ball to the correct base. Just know ahead of time that you cant control your fielders, the computer does it for you. Besides the commentary, that is the only major flaws of the game. There is some frame rate slow down at some points, but overall the game runs smooth. Another added incentive is that wsb2k1 will be the only baseball game on dreamcast this year due to the fact konami pushed back espn baseball tonight to next year. I give this game four stars on the fun rating. It has awesome graphics, solid gameplay and lots of replay value. Baseball and sports fans will be doing themselves a favor by picking this one up. Peace out and go white sox!
Play the game for more than five minutes and you will enjoy!

This game is much better than people give it credit for. The graphics are the best ever in a baseball game and some of the best seen on Dreamcast. The best part of the game is the confrontation between the pitcher and the batter. You have to think to be succesful in this game. Although the computer fields for you there is a field aspect to the game. Positioning your players correctly will give them a better chance of making the play. If you shift your infield to the right against a right handed batter then you should pitch outside so it is harder for him to pull it. If you pitched inside he will most likely pull it into the gap left by you shifting the infield. This game involves a lot of strategy and it is great. Another great aspect of the game is the difficulty in hitting home runs. You don't hit a home run every other time up which makes it more realistic (although these days its seems like home runs are hit that often). The announcer could be better and so could some of the sound effects but this game is so fun you won't even notice them. Go buy this game now its great.

Watch out! This game is awful. The graphics and commentary are buggy to all ends. This game was completely rushed out the door, and as a result, suffers immensely. The graphics are 'sometimes' nice, but the crowds look like something off of Genesis. The fielding is atrocious (you can't even control your fielders! the computer does it for you!), there is no home run derby, almost no options, a skeletal season system (that has no career mode, just one season) and the music and sound effects sound like something from the original NES days. What a horrible disappointment. Do not buy this game! Show Sega that they can't just put a sub mediocre product on the market and expect everyone to buy it.

This game is NO WHERE NEAR the caliber of NFL2K and NBA2K. I have had it for several days and here are just a few of my complaints: CANNOT CONTROL THE DEFENSE!, cheesy fan animations, Runners look like they are on a slip and slide, Annoying commentary, poor sound effects for croud and ball hitting the glove. CANNOT CONTROL THE DEFENSE!, hitting and throwing controls are sluggish, 680 foot homeruns (that is wonderful attempt at realism), among others. Did I mention you CAN'T CONTROL THE DEFENSE? This is the only game I have ever played where you can't control the defense. Great pitcher and hitter graphics, they just left out too many key elements to make fun. Hopefully ESPN Baseball Tonight will finally come out and be done a lot better. Save your money.
World Series Baseball Does Not Meet Expectations

The last time I checked baseball composed of three major components, hitting, pitching, and fielding. Apparently those at Sega felt that customers would not mind if one of these components was missing from the game. You CAN NOT control defensive players in this game until after they have caught the ball. Not only can you not control your players but the AI does a poor job as well. Outfielders have terrible breaks on fly balls often taking indirect routes. First baseman often cover first base instead of fielding the ball thus allowing easy ground balls and pop ups to become base hits. Another problem with the defense is that once a player gets the ball he comes to a complete stop unless you push the appropriate buttons during the players fielding motion. Other problems with the game that bother me is that there aren't any game stats. If you would like to know how many strikeouts your pitcher has or hits a batter has for a particular game one must remember that for themselves. The season stats in the season mode are great but game stats would be nice as well. The game was advertised as having hot and cold streaks for individual baseball players available and they are not. This missing feature is even printed as being available on the back of the disc cover. These are a few of the major aspects of the game that bother me while their are a few more that I will not mention. I am just disapointed because Sega Sports had put out such great sports games for the Dreamcast thus far and I had high expectations for this game. It seems as if the developers of the game were not baseball fans and failed to get the consultation needed in order not to miss the finer points of the game. Either that or they new it was a RUSH JOB and wanted to cash in before the real baseball season came to an end.

Sure, this is the prettiest baseball game ever. But then try playing it. The comuter does all the fielding! The pitching and batting are simplistic. And if you're looking for configurability, forget it. If you are looking for a really good baseball game and you have a pc, try high heat instead.
Big Disappointment

Please refer to the review of WSB2K1 game ... before you purchase this game. I didn't. This game lacks many promised features (i.e. homerun derby, batting pratice, pitch selection via VMU, color commentary). Also game play itself is poor. The computer controls all fielding. The game is primarily hitting and pitching. The announcer reminds me of the old Sega Genesis Sports Talk games - choppy, repeatative, and meaningless.
A dissapointment!

After all the hype surrounding this game, and how well the WSB games were in the past, this just doesn't measure up. Sure it looks great, but you can't even field! The computer does that for you. It also decides how fast you'll swing your bat, and how late it should delay your fielders from reacting to the ball. With another person it's pretty fun, but by yourself the computer cheats wores than in NFL Blitz. Wait till ESPN's game comes out. It's good, but it's no NFL 2K
