Not great, but it'll have to do.

Well baseball fans, WSB 2K1 is finally here for the dreamcast, and those of you who had hoped it would be like the former titles on saturn and genesis will be thoroughly disappointed. The major problem lies in the fact that you cannot control your fielders. What were you thinking Sega? Other gripes about the game are that the crowd looks like something you'd see on a 64 or 32 bit system, and the play by play disappoints those who enjoyed the commentary in the previous 2K games. However, this game turns out to have some positive aspects as well, with its amazing graphics, real batting stances, and well designed batter/pitcher interface. Bottom line, rent this one before you buy it. This will be the only baseball title coming out for the dreamcast this season, so if you're desperate for a baseball game like I was, you'll probably opt to get this one.

could have been...no wait should have been better

The graphics are the highlight of the game. The faces are very real and you can even see the creases in their shirts. A great step above the graphics of the psand n64, but of course now there is the ps2, x box and game cube. Graphics get an A+. This game has the beginings of a great game, but when played it seems like they stopped trying. past the graphics there isn't much else. Like the other reviews said there is no fielding. I don't understand that part, i mean there is no way to get an error unless of course the computer makes a mistake for you. No replay, pitchers don't have to warm up(not that bad a trait for some people) no numbered player ratings, they have ratings but they are vague(little green bars behind words) and you can trade anyone for anyone. I also was frustrated with the seasons, for those who really get into the seasons like I do, I was upset that you have to save then go completely out to the main screen and into the customizing screen to change your line ups or trade players. Once you get the hang of things it does become quite an entertaining game though. Like the others I say rent it before you buy it.

One of the best baseball games

The teams are outdated and the reporter doesnt really sound like he cares.Besides that the graphics are really good. You can create a player and play a season with him and they keep track of his stats. They dont have any real good rookies. Some of the players are better than they say they are and others are to good

Not Sega's Best Work

Pros: Graphics- The best thing on this game is the graphics. All the players look EXACTLY like the real players. Player piching and batting moves are wonderfully done. The stadium shots were also incredible.
Cons: The commitator for this game gets REALY montonious. He says the same thing over and over again. Also, the fielding on the game was horrible. All of it was automatic. It frustrating to see players not catch balls that are hit right at them.

Over all the game was okay.

Okay frustrating at first

This game has some cool features--the batter/pitcher matchup is reasonably good; players are (except when they're sitting on the bench) very realistic-looking. It also doesn't eat an entire memory card like NFL 2K--just a little over half of one.

The bad news, though, is that there are some INCREDIBLY big problems with gameplay. Number one: FIELDING FIELDING FIELDING. The worst are grounders through the "gap" between first and second. The first baseman is apparently unable to move even three feet to his right in order to snag the ball. Ugly.

Number two: baserunning. How many major-leaguers have *you* seen running on an infield popup with less than two out? Play this game at all, and you'll see guys who get paid more than the GNP of some small countries making that very same bonehead move. The player has to physically remind his baserunners to return to base on a pop-fly.

These two very large problems are enough to really take a lot of the enjoyment out of what would otherwise be a very good game.

There are some other problems, too: the little graphic that shows where the ball (tiny white pixel), defensive players (tiny blue pixels) and runners (tiny yellow pixel that is nearly indistinguishable from the ball) is almost completely useless. The fans in the stands look like something out of a Nintendo 64 game. There's no way to skip past the incredibly awful renditions of the national anthem at the beginning of each game. The replays aren't very interesting. The commentary is wooden and nowhere near as well-done as in, say, one of the excellent NFL games. The controls are not always very intuitive or responsive (especially irritating when you're frantically pressing B to get your idiot baserunners to return to base while they blithely jog along, finally realizing that Oh! You want them to DO something!). These are all pretty petty little quibbles, really, and none of them would be enough to really make this a bad game by themselves, but when combined with the fielding and baserunning problems, the annoyances just mount and mount until you want to chuck your controller at the TV.

(Barely) worth the $15 I spent on it used--for the graphics and to tide me over until WSB2K2 comes out in a couple of weeks.

throwing and batting? thats it.

Throwing and batting. that gets pretty boring. thats all you can do. the graphics are awesome. better than a playstation 2. the batting is okay but the throwing stinks. all the players throw is rainbows. since you can't field the ball it gets boring extremely quickly. it takes a while to get used to the hitting. the hitting is difficult to learn. these are the reasons i gave it a two star rating. i do NOT reccomend this game to anyone. i would wait till 2k2 comes out. don't waist your money.

I just want 2 let the guy know who also wrote a review for this that the game does not automatically field the ball for you. I do not have the game but my friend does and I already know that if you go into options or something that you can change it so you can field the ball. The grafics are amazing.

The game is horrible!

I bought this game after waiting for it for months. You cannot field on the game (the computer fields for you) and there is no home run derby (which sega promised). This game lacks in so many different ares. Go buy All Star Baseball 2001 for N64 instead.

Good Game..but room for improvements!

I just got this game yesturday and I must say the graphics are amazing. The roster is even so updated that David Justice is on the Yankees. The main problems are the slow down in graphics if too many people are on base, sometimes causing you to get out. The other main problem is that your base runners run even if your guy hit a pop fly, causing a double play for the comp. NO FIELDING I might add! The comp controls your outfielders but you throw the ball to your choice base. This is a good game for baseball fans. The season mode is fun, but there is no home run derby(boo hoo). If your not sure you will like this game, at least rent it. Thanks for your time.
