Best Baseball Game I Ever Played

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

I bought this game about 2 months ago. It was about 20$ less than World Series Baseball 2k2. World Series 2k2 has the 2001 correct rosters. I am a guy that likes the MLB team rosters up-to the minute correct. Since I had time, I did all the trades from last season and this season and put it in 2k1. I saved 20$! For you people that don't have time to do that I would buy 2k2, but besides the rosters and maybe a few minor changes 2k2 and 2k1 are pretty much the same. The game is awesome though it is kind of hard to get used to pitching. Excellent graphics(I like it better than PS2.) The season mode is awesome! Go out and buy either 2k2 or 2k1 soon! PS- up-to-the minute trades can be found on espn.com or mlb.com

This is a great game.

This game has really good graphics, the players look realistic and the stadiums look almost exactly like the real ones. A lot of people were complaining about no home run derby but home run derby isn't even that good. There was only one reason why I didn't give this game a 5 is because its too easy on two player mode, I always have about 25 run games but its a lot harder against the computer. People are complaining about autofielding saying that its frustrating I think that its better to have autofielding because it makes good plays for you. I think that its really worth it to buy this game.

A Sega Sports Downfall

Only one word can decribe this game, sub-par. Shame on Sega Sports because they were able to produce games like NFL, NBA, NHL 2k, and Virtua Tennis which set the standard for sports on the Dreamcast and came out with a game like this. Sad to say, this game is below standard.

This game has many things wrong with it that are near-perfect in games like MLB 2001 and All-Star Baseball 2001 like, hitting the ball. Yes, hitting the ball is a task in WSB 2k1 because the camera angles give you a bad perspective of where the ball is to go. Look at All-Star Baseball 2000, the Normal power mode gives you an oval area of the strikezone in which you WILL hit the ball. In WSB 2k1, the circle is the size of the baseball and is hard to hit with. Also, why would someone want to have the COMP. field the ball? And to add to that, the COMP. is as dumb as the sole of my shoe. A near diveable ball was let through the infield and the first baseman didnt go after a ball hit through the second-first base gap. Please give me manual control!

Graphic wise, this game flat out rocks with signature stances, bubble-popping benchwarmers and so many real-life animations make you think twice about NBA 2k's graphics. But like most games, there are problems. First, the crowd is so bad I think back to the 16-bit Baseball Star's crowd. The most annoying "feature" is when someone steals and the catcher gets up to throw, the slowdown in that part is terrible. If its a feature or a problem with the game, its got to go.

Sound wise, this game is hit-or-miss. The commentary is worse than WSB 95' which wasnt groundbraking. Then the music, OKAY at best but could be better if they had classics like "Cotton Eye Joe". The national anthem is ear-piercing and made me lower the volume for that section. WSB 2k1 has music that has to be changed along with mostly everything else.

The selection on the Dreamcast for baseball is limited sice ESPN Baseball 2Night has been delayed till Spring 2001. For all you baseball nuts, WSB 2k1 will hold you till Spring 2001, but be warned, WSB 2k1 IS HIT OR MISS AND SHOULD BE RENTED FIRST. Virtua Tennis is the defult game this summer till NFL 2k1 and NBA 2k1 come out. Save your money and get Virtua Tennis or youll be back at FuncoLand in a week.

An overall good game.

Let me start by saying that WS2K1 has NO FIELDING. For this, we immediately subtract one star. One must wonder what Sega was thinking. However, besides that, the game is actually pretty good.

Let's start with the graphics. Besides AWFUL crowd designs, they are AWESOME! The players are as close to real as you can get, and the stadiums are breathtaking.

The sound... Well, the play-by-play is horrible, but it gets the job done.

Gameplay- No fielding. No fielding. No fielding. But, other than that, it is a very good baseball simulation. This game makes pitcher's duels possible, something that I have never seen before in a console baseball game. No more inflated 20-15 disasters that some call a baseball simulation. Scores no longer can be mistaken for football scores. I like the batting system and the pitching systems... you just have to get used to them. The base-running is tough, but isn't awful if you know what you are doing.

In closing, this game is worth the 15-20 dollars you have to pay for it (I got mine used for 17 bucks) and should last you up until you can buy WS2K2.

I think I know the problem.

This is an arcade game folks, its not a simulation. Treat it as such and you'll be happy. If you want a simulation, go for High Heat or Triple Play or something.

GREAT GRAPHICS...what happened to the rest of the game?

Everyone who owned a Dreamacst couldn't wait! They were sitting on the edge of their seat just waiting and waiting for the arrival of the first baseball game for the Dreamcast! World Series Baseball 2K1.

Everyone who bought it, including me was shocked. Did Sega forget that a great baseball video game is more than just graphics? When I got this game along with NBA 2K1 and NFL 2K1 I was amazed by the graphics. Preston Wilson looked, batted and threw exactly like he actually does and the stadiums were just breathtaking.

I couldn't wait to get into the game so I did an exhibition game. I was stunned! There was no maual-fielding option, hitting was nearly impossible and getting through an inning without getting shelled was just as hard. I played this game for about 10 minutes trying to figure out if it was just me that I was so bad and that there was no manual-fielding, but I realized that's the way the game is. After playing once or maybe twice I put this game away for good then traded it in along with a few other games for Sonic Adventure 2 and Soul Calibur. That's probably the best move I ever had made.

I now own World Series Baseball 2K2 because I knew it couldn't get any worse. The player graphics are worse, but the stadium's are more detailed. The rosters are more up-to-date, the gameplay is excellent, pitching is fun, hitting has been improved a lot and of course you can actually field unlike this game!

WSB 2K1 is a terrible game. If you want a baseball game for your Dreamcast get WSB 2K2. It's awesome!

Waste of time..

I am a baseball junkie. From my old stick figures on my first computer to WSB2K1, I've seen a lot of things change. This game was GREAT, until I got to play defense. Auto-fielding is not an option that everybody loves to play with. All the baseball games before offered auto-fielding as an option. With WSB2K1, it's not an option, it's MANDATORY. You can't turn it off! The pitcher/batter matchups were good. Once you figure out how to bat, the game does become considerably easier. I would've probably continued to play this game, but I could not overcome the auto-fielding. Sure I could have just concentrated on pitching, but when I play a sports sim, I want COMPLETE control. (Or at least the option of complete control.) After NFL2K and NBA2K, I just knew that Sega Sports was taking all of us to a new level of sports sims with WSB2K1. I guess I didn't realize that we were DROPPING to a new level instead of rising to new level. Boy, was I fooled. I guess this just teaches another valuable lesson that any gamer should follow. Pay the [money] to rent it, before wasting the [money] to buy it...

HORRIBLE

One star is as low as we can go? I'm not one for writing reviews on Amazon.com, but I wish I read some before I bought this game. The graphics are very good at first, but they repeat themselves, and they get boring FAST. I've played the game over and over, trying to make myself think that maybe somehow it wasn't a complete waste of [money].

My advice? If you see this game on sale for ... somewhere..... You'll still be disappointed by it. Order a pizza.
