The game is really cool. It has the best graphics I have ever seen. The chapters are very challenging.

Incredible Game, Incredibly Short!

COD4 is a spectacular treat for the senses. Visually the best best first person shooter I've ever played. Unfortunately, just as I was getting into the storyline....it ended! Poof, just like that! I thought I was at the half-way point but, NO, it was over. The reward I recieved? An unlock to the "Arcade Mode" where you can go back through the SAME storyline you've just completed...only you get POINTS this time. Huh????? Kind of a disappointment in that regard. Otherwise, a great FPS game.

mindblowing

Pros: Awesome gameplay, realistic weapon trajectory, realistic enemy reactions...

Cons: short

Love this game, just short as everyone else mentions. I completed the game in a day and a half. Guys I'm deployed with purchased the game after trying it out on my computer.

Great graphics, limited game play options. It bothers me that I am limited by the games internal borders. if you could jump over a 4ft wall in one area, why not all the rest? If I have found a weapon that I like, I would not expect it to disappear in the next scene, only to be replaced by an inferior one.
Not the best game, but not the worst.

COD4 is good, but not up to expectations

COD4 is a great game don't get me wrong. The graphics are pretty good, about average for high end games.

The gameplay is fun, but very similar to previous Call of Duty's. Instead of fighting an infinite amount of soldiers until you complete each mission, you fight a number of soldiers until you complete each mission. In some cases it might as well be infinite, because you'll run out of ammo before you secure the area. The tasks and missions are pretty much similar layout to previous COD with nothing really special. AI isn't anything spectacular, they run out of buildings just as they used to, although they are better at hiding behind walls.

The coolest thing about the game is the cut scenes and minimovies, which I think impresses a lot of people.

My biggest complaint is that the game is RIDICULOUSLY SHORT. I've never played a $50 game before where I could beat the single player mission in 4 to 5 hours (what a ripoff!). The replay isn't that great either, your just going to play the same route you did before.

I guess the main reason people like this game is the multiplayer, which I have to admit is pretty fun and well laid out.

Unless you feel like you have to play this game really badly, I would avoid this game until the price goes down.

Call of Duty 4 is more than 4 times the fun.

I started buying the Call of Duty games just over a year ago. I'm in my 50s and can patiently wait until the game prices drop before I dive in.

Rarely do I play a game several times, but I did with CoD1. I did the same with United Offensive. So when CoD2 took a drop in price I went after it not knowing that CoD4 was poised for release.

I decided to do some homework. I just had a B-Day. Maybe I'll treat myself to a full-price game. Besides, my best friend just sent me an Amazon Gift Cert.

Game Informer claimed it had the most photo realistic graphics of any game they had ever reviewed. I trusted ActiVision to give modern warfare the same great gameplay as they had for WWII. So, I order 2 and 4.

I was not disappointed. Went into work drowsy for several days, because I would not let myself stop until I finished one more mission the night before.

I have dual, SLI enabled nVidia 6600s on my Asus MB, with 4GB of RAM and a 3.2 GHz AMD dual core CPU. Yeah, it's a two year old setup, but this is only the second game to force me to throttle back on the settings. Bioshock was the first.

The graphics were amazing. Even throttled back the action, the detail, the shadow, all were very impressive. I drug family in to watch a while. Everyone was impressed. Heck, it's driven me to add an nVidia 8800 GTS 640 to my Christmas wish list. I want to replay this game in all its visual glory.

It seems to me the gameplay is more random in CoD4 in that you won't always find the bad guy in the same place when you come back to life to get the guy that just got you. Controls are great and the options are all manageable. (I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have a function for every key out of 108.)

If they had a place for 6 stars on this review I'd click that one too. Great game. It will not disappoint.

(P.S. if you prefer PC games over console games like me, I recommend the Z-force FANG. Available on Amazon. You won't have to learn new key assignments for every game. Check it out. A huge plus if your a southpaw.)

I prefer Battlefield II for the vehicles, tanks, helicopter and planes as well as infantry combat.

I'm a major FPS player, sticking mostly to what Steam throws at me. So when this popped up on Steam after I bought it for my 12 yo son for his xbox, I went ahead and sprang for it again. Great gameplay, awesome storyline, graphics to challenge any video card. (though I tell ya, on the xbox on an LCD flat panel TV, the graphics are amazing as heck!)

I played the game through in a few casual days of playing, and had a blast. Multiplayer has a variety of fun iterations and I like the XP upgrade system.

Very well thought out, lots of fun. I'll be looking for any game Infinity Ward puts out in the future!

Fun, varied, but a little short

You get to play SAS and Marine personas in this game. It includes many strengths that make the CoD franchise great - varied missions including sniper, hostage, rescue, holdout, and raining fire from the sky (that was AWESOME!), lots of weapons, smart computer friends (and foes), and the overwhelming sense of disorientation of the heat of battle.
This one adds amazing graphics, smoke, lighting, and cinematography to the mix as well. I only wish it had more single player levels, or equivalently, that each level was longer. The challenges that stick in my mind were always when you faced a mass enemy attack; it would have been excellent if those scenarios were scaled back in difficulty, while other challenges were boosted in difficulty.
