If you liked Halo, give this a shot

I bought the XBox version of the game and have played it for a week. Overall it is a very enjoyable first person shooter with some very nicely designed levels/themes.

The one hangup that most people have with the controls is the "auto return to center" effect on weapons. If you are sniping someone in the upper right corner, for instance, you need to hold the aim control stick in that position to stop it from snapping back to the center position. This is different than Halo, which will hold your aim position indefinitely. After playing for a little bit you will get used to this "feature".

A lot of the controls are customizable, you can set up weapons switch, fire, alt fire, reload, activate, zoom, auto-aim, etc. You can also customize the crosshair aimer and croutch to stay on when the thumbstick is pushed, or to toggle with it.

The game is somewhat challenging on the normal level, even for the first map - which will keep you engrossed. It combines heavy fire fighting with puzzles. Most of the story play involves figuring out where items/enemies are and developing a strategy that you may need to repeat a few times to be successful. There is no auto-save feature - only 1 checkpoint per level that once you reach you can return to until you complete the level.

I haven't checked out the other mass features of this game, including map editing, arcade mode, hundreds of characters, and system linking with other players for deathmatch. Multiplay is reported to be very exciting, ala Quake online.

The best shooter you can get for this price

This is the best multiplayer game i have ever had. The single player is a lot of fun but not quite as good as multiplayer. The campaign works with co-op which makes it better also. Multiplayer has bots, which is also a very good thing to have, and aside from being great, the characters are funny. My fav characyers name is robofish, which sounds about as funny as he looks. I counted 126 unlockable characters, plus extra game modes, cheats, and levels make this a great 10-20 bucks. Buy this instead 0f any other shooter your considering, believe me, this games great.

I bought this game because i wanted another first person shooter after i bought turok and was dissapointed. It reminds me so much of goldeneye. Its a really fun game. Cartoonish, but fun. But where would we be in the world today without a little variety. Things needed to be mixed up. The only thing i didnt like about this game was the aiming is really really touchy, that makes it really hard in a congested area of action. I also thought the actual mission part of the game would be better then it was, a little to short. I find myself playing the arcade and challenge series more then the story mode. It is a party game and thats what i really like about it. You can set up your own matches with the computer and play them like you would be against your buddys. Its a must have especially for those first person shooter fans. Its fast paced and over the top fun. Well worth the money. I tend to have good taste in games, so i recomend this game. Grand times.

Possibly the best multiplayer game for the X-BOX

As I say in the title, Time splitters 2 is possibly, if not, the best multiplayer game for Xbox. This game is also extremely fun in arcade mode, which is sort of like challenge mode in Perfect Dark for N64. However, single-player is average. There is nothing new, and the levels are short. However, multiplayer will have you playing against others and inviting friends over to compete every-single-day. Here's an in-depth description of the modes and other stuff.

Graphics: 4 out of 5

The graphics are good. They are sort-of like Goldeneye style, but are great for next-gen consoles. The player models look good, the backrounds are excellent, and the guns look awsome. However, the gun reloadings copy Goldeneye's reloadings: the gun goes down, you hear a chi-ching sound, and the gun comes back up. That applies for every gun except the shotgun and tactical 12-gauge. However, that is hardly a problem.

Sound: 5 out of 5

One word to describe every sound: Perfect. The party-like music on the main menu, the gun sounds, the voices, the other music, and even down to the sound you hear when a bullet passes near you are all perfect. This is some good sound.

Single Player: 2 1/2 out of 5

Not so good: the worst aspect of the game. Some fun, but not that much. Even the funnest level in the game, the wild west, is only that good. However, some of the cut-scenes are alright.

Multiplayer: 6 out of 5

Yes, a review first. The reason it gets 6 is because it is so fun! You also get about twenty AI bots in each arena, so there's always a fight going on. There are many modes of gameplay, too. The funniest mode is Monkey Assistant. Just like deathmatch, except if one player has been winning for about a minute and still is, the monkeys, after a familiar trumpet-tune, come racing to the rescue by firing at the first-place player with the best weapons in the game. It's funny to see the monkeys racing past everyone bent on killing the first-place player. After he is dead, the monkeys dance around and dissapear. The best mode is assault. See it for yourself. You also get over 100 guys to choose from! If you don't have a human pal to play multi-player with, you can always play multiplayer by yourself.

Arcade Mode: 5 out of 5

Arcade mode is fun fun fun! You unlock game types by doing this mode, too. Also a main aspect of buying this game/

Lengthitivity: 8 out of 5

The lengthetivity of this game is humoungous. You will never get tired of this game. It is one of the best XBOX games.

Rent of Buy?

You should buy this game if you like party games. Buy this game if you like to have fun. If you are unsure about it, though, then rent it, but you will soon racing to buy it. it's awsome.

Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I bought this game because of the good reviews I heard from everyone, including people on Amazon.com, and I decided to pick it up ($$$sale$$$). Well, at first, getting used to the controls, it felt a little bit stupid. The auto aim was awful, the graphics didn't immediatly impress me, and the overall gameplay was just boring. But I kept playing, and soon I found myself on the second mission, kicking butt, and realized 2 hours had passed. I had to stop and tell the world! "Why?" THIS GAME IS AWSOME!!!!!

1. Gameplay: First off, if you're an expierienced gamer, shut the auto-aim OFF in preferences. It really kills the gameplay. Second, realize how cool the gameplay is. There are dozens of guns to try out, the graphics are awsome, and your enemies actually use their brain. That's what made this game such a challenge. To begin the game, you see a little movie about an Alien race called the "TimeSplitters" . They travel through time, and are here to take over the world. So Earth sends out a last hope with a group of Marines. They send 2 (you and if you have a friend, a second person) marines on to the Alien's ship. They battle their way to the bridge, where 9 Aliens have already disapeared into a time warp. Each is in a different time with a time crystal you have to retrieve. So you follow these Aliens through each time period, shooting your way through anything from zombies, guards, aliens, other marines, spies, robots, etc...it's really cool. Once you finish the game, the world is saved. The thing is, once you beat a game on the hardest level, u unlock an even harder difficulty setting. Can u beat it on a harder level, than the next? Really cool, and you can re-do any level on any setting, at any time. And you can do all these levels in one player, or 2 player. So me and my best friends could go through the story as a team. What a blast!

You have anything from grenades, snipers, shotguns, pistols, machine guns, etc... and it just gets better. This is just the story. Should I move on?

2. The graphics: Not the greatest we've ever seen, but still quite good. You see gun shells fall to the ground, watch water spray down from a waterfall, see heads fall off and roll to the floor (only from zombies, no gore here!). When u shoot at wall, the gun marks appear and stay for the game. Glass shatters, people fall back when u shoot. Good explosions, etc... It gets the job done and a little bit more. Graphics here are good, but don't expect HALO.

3. Sound: Very good. Each gun makes it's own sound, voice acting is pretty good, the alarms make u jump with the realistic screech. Unfortunantly, you don't here the people walk. Little things like that aren't here, but once again, it gets the job done. 3.5 out of 5 stars in sound. But u don't really notice anything bad during the awsome gameplay. As for the menu music, FANTASTIC! Very good game, and the music really gets u excited for the games. I love this game, and the sound was part of it!

4. Multiplayer: AWSOME! 4 player, 3 player, and 2 player. You can play through the story through 2 player, and have 4 player fighting frenzy after that. You can do a deathmatech (where your 4 players fight off impossible odds working together), challenge (where you make a challenge and face it), campaining (where you have 2 teams with dozens of people going through all out war! Players pick their side), and the good 'ole 4-player killing spree. You all face each other, battling for kills, points, and the right to stay alive and call yourself the champ! These are just a few (to give you an idea). And with over a 100 characters to choose from, dozens of levels to fight in, and a ton of game types, this game will keep you entertained...for awhile!

Overall, this game rocked. I wasn't expecting such a fun game when I picked it up. Definantly worth the buy. And if you share an XBOX with good friends, room mates, brothers and sisters, etc.. you can work as a team in multiple ways, including going throug EVERY singlr mission in story mode, guarding each other's back.

It wasn't HALO, but it was a great game. No gore, and a ton of awsome fun, TimeSplitter's 2 (the sequel to the classic TimeSplitter's for the PlayStation) lives up to the hype, and can be compared to games like Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, and even HALO in some terms.

Hope this helped, now I gotta go play TimeSplitter's 2!!!!!!

The "Goldeneye" of the Twenty-first Century

Since James Bond has now become a huge advertising sell-out, we now have to get our espionage and carnage action from the TimeSplitters line of games. Done by "the people who brought you GoldenEye" for the N64, the XBox finally has something that will supercede Halo's FPS excitement. Not only that, but TimeSplitters is much more fast-paced, and more playable with groups of friends than Halo is.

TimeSplitters 2 improves upon the original by including a variety of often hilarious characters which includes the Hunchback of Notre Dame, several different 1930s mafiosi, Frosty the Snowman, and even monkeys with guns!

how many of us remember playing bond for the first time...on that ol' n64? ...gives a lot of us warm and fuzzy feelings plugging the mean, nasty, couldn't possibly have a family that loves them nazis full of all the punishment we saw fit. a whole revolution spawned off of that game, and all the clones came in...and two games from the developers: perfect dark and time splitters.

enter time splitters 2. see, perfect dark was better than the first time splitters...it had a cool story, and the multiplayer edged out ahead, so for ts2, the developers had to make some improvements.

did they succeed? i'll start with the bad first.

the story is a nonsensical journey into confusion. you have no idea who your character is at that moment, let alone why you are where you are. when you choose your mission, the camera operator takes a dive into a portal and you're whisked away to what is, in a sense, a mini movie. you take on a role, whether it be a cyber punk from neo-tokyo, a cowboy in the wild west, a robot...and many others, and play lead until you find a time crystal which furthers your confusion. it's very much like quantum leap, but if you give in to the fun had at doing this, you'll find the huge variety of the stages.

with all that said, the good...

all games do not have to have a major motion picture story...the idea is to have fun, and should you have friends, invite them over and fun you shall have! the multiplayer is phenomenal! it keeps stats on all players, and the options will keep you coming back to improve them. there are more than 120 characters for the choosing, and going through all the tasks to unlock them is a game in itself...and each character has his/her own individual stats. some are crazy...some are right on target...it's fun experimenting with them all, and the different and varied modes to unlock will have you doing just that. you will find all the options from the bond/pd/ts games, and a hugely intricate mapmaker that allows you to make your own story stage, or use it as a fragfest funhouse. the replayability is where ts2 shines.

graphics are awesome, and all the effects and animation will further plaster the smile on your face.

music and sound are amazing...music gets a hats off for all of the work setting moods. the wild west has the whistling guitar sounds you'd expect, the notre dame cathedral has a gregorian chant goin' on...very well done. and the sounds effects are inspired to say the least. the robots sound like the guys that stole r2d2's oil money, and monkeys taunt with gleeful chimp sounds...and of course the guns scream and hollar, and there are a lot of em'

playability can depend on the system. while i play it on the xbox, i've heard that the ps2 controls very well and the gc can take a little getting used to, but not too shabby. that said, the xbox version handles like a dream. you can set it up anyway you want, so if you want a halo style, it's very easy to do. the play engine is very reminiscent of bond/pd/ts, full of animations and awesome collision detection, and the interactivity of the environments is amazing! depending on the accuracy of your weapon, targeting is dead on too...if you're pushing daisies, it's your own fault.

so, if you've read this far, you at least have an interest...try it out! it has more options for this genre than you'll find. and with the only drawback being that you can't play it online (just play unreal or halflife, etc. for that), you won't believe how much fun you can have with this...unless you've played the bond/pd/ts games before. and if you have, well...get ready for some nostalgia...improved.

True Sequel to Goldeneye:007 for the N64

This is a great game. The only other console FPS that can compare in this generation of consoles is Halo. The game is much faster paced than Halo. There are some other great features in this game. First, the characters actually have different stats on speed, endurance, and accuracy. Second, the weapon assortment is amazing. There's a full spectrum from pistols and crossbows to homing rockets and flame throwers. The levels are also varied, although not as involved as some of the Halo levels. Finally, the different game types really offer a lot of variety in the multiplayer.

There are a few downsides. First, it's irritating to have to unlock EVERYTHING. It does offer hours of gameplay, but it also really limits playability in the beginning. Second, the aiming is a bit screwey. You almost have to rely more on auto-aim than anything else. Third, if you have the game hooked up though coax, the chroma bug surfaces and makes the visuals really suffer. For whatever reason, as long as it comes out of the xbox through component or composite (even if it's into a VCR that outputs to the TV via coax), it nullifies the chroma issue. Bottom line: Great game until Halo 2 comes out.

Fun game - good rental

This is a review of Timesplitters 2 as a rental option. A friend and I spent a few hours playing this game and found it to be a very enjoyable game with a wide variety of weapons and enemies, plus more interactivity with the environments than Halo has.

To start with, the graphics were great. Nice and colourful, running smoothly with a reasonable amount of variation. Each setting looks markedly different from the last, whilst the characters look good but not great.

Good gameplay. We played two-player story mode and there was a lot of scope for cooperative play, in that we could let each other pick up the health packs or weapons, and provide cover fire for each other. Plus, unlike Halo, one person could go and complete a task while the other person focused on something else. Remember in Halo when one player got too far in front then the other player got magically 'beamed up'? That doesn't happen in Timesplitters 2. On a negative note, the gameplay isn't quite as smooth as in Halo; movement is jerky, as is aiming. What's the point of having a sniper rifle if it takes ten seconds to aim it accurately? With Halo you could let loose a barrage of sniper shots with incredible accuracy. Not the same here. Other than this qualm, the action is particularly fun because of the variety of weaponry on offer, including tommy guns, mines, shotguns, etc. The future weapons are excellent also.

Interactivity with environment: You can pull levers, interact with computer terminals, shoot through windows to take out snipers, shoot watermelons, etc. In one level there was an eightball table and you could shoot the balls into the holes. My friend and I spent literally seconds playing a game of eightball with tommy guns. If only you could do this in real life and not be arrested and/or maimed by debris/bullets, life would be so much more meaningful.

As a rental option, Timesplitters 2 is very good value for money. The 'easy' setting is easy enough to allow novice players to make their way steadily through a few levels - my friend and I completed four levels in about 2-3 hours - and the gameplay is engaging and enjoyable.

A fun, difficult game. Great for multiple players.

I already own Halo, and TimeSplitters 2 is currently the only XBox shooter I have found that can challenge Halo in terms of multiplayer goodness.

If you and your friends are into First-Person Shooters, this game will probably keep you occupied and challenged for a long while.

The controls and multiplayer options are highly configurable. (So much so that it can be overwhelming at first.)

The single player game is fun, but tough at the normal level of difficulty. Beginning gamers might be put off by the difficulty.

Learning to aim takes time. The aiming controls and options are also configurable.

I found the instruction booklet to be pretty useless. It doesn't even attempt to describe what all of the menu options do.

Tons of characters. (Watch out for that monkey!) Lots of weapons. (Homing Missiles!) Lots of options. Very good game.
