I am a fan of MGS, so I expected a great game since MGS always does that,,,but this game knocked my socks off. The graphics were just stunning the gameplay just felt soft and easy. The cut scenes were inpressive and just slip in and out nicely. They can get long, but if you are into the story as I am that is what you expected. With the added durbin store and mkII remote the sneaking was just more better,,all these add-ons were a nice touch. I really believe that if there was ever a game that is perfect this game is just that. This game is the knockout punch for the PS3 if all games follow it's lead.
Truly a MASTERPIECE!!!!

I have never played a Metal Gear game before, so I want to say up front that I am NOT a MG fanboy. I decided to go ahead and preorder the Limited Edition of MGS4 based solely on the hype and the scenes I had seen of the game leading up to the game's release. Before the release date, I began hearing about 90 minute cut scenes in the game, and I almost considered canceling my order. Boy am I glad I didn't!!!! Yes, there are some long cut scenes, but they tell a lot of the back story which was very helpful to me, since I knew nothing about it. I won't go into the whole story of the game, because that has been covered in other more thorough reviews. What I do want to say is that the graphics in this game are the best I have ever seen ANYWHERE!! I thought Call of Duty 4 looked good until I saw MGS4. It was really apparent after I completed the game, and the next day I popped in COD4 and was shocked at how much more detailed the MG graphics are. I've heard some complain about the cut scenes, but many of these scenes offer ways to interact with them, so it's not like you're just sitting there watching them for hours. During the game, the longest cut scene I remember was about 30 minutes long. At the end of the game, there are several cut scenes that add up to about an hour. Honestly, I did not find these to be a distraction, actually they were very helpful and informative. Not only that, they provided me with a little rest after playing through a tough mission. I think MGS4 breaks new ground by creating an entertainment experience where it truly feels like you are playing through a major blockbuster action movie. If you own a PS3, you MUST get this game. If you don't own a PS3, you MUST get one so you CAN play this game. It is one of the few games I've ever really wanted to play back through as soon as I finished it. Before I do that, I will be playing through the first 3 Metal Gear games which I just bought in a set for $29. I do think that the story line for MGS4 was VERY complex, and I'm hoping that after I play through these first 3 in the series, it will be clearer as to what is going on in the 4th one. If you just want a brainless game to play where you just shoot and kill at will, this game is NOT for you. However, if you want an entertainment experience where you are treated to a really good story with action, humor, and some sad moments, then you owe it to yourself to get this game. It truly is a masterpiece.

This is by far the best game I've ever played in my life! I've always been a fan of the metal gear series, but until now I have never considered it to have everything that makes a fantastic game until now. First off, the story is epic. If you haven't played the previous games or don't download the database that is FREE on PSN (it will automatically omit spoilers from 4 so you can catch up on the story for MGS4) you will have no clue what is going on, so read up. Also be warned: THE CUT SCENES FOR EVERY METAL GEAR SOLID ARE VERY LONG. I've heard people complain about how long they are, but you have to realize that with the complexity of this story you have to have these cut-scenes. You wouldn't understand what's going on otherwise. This isn't a simple plot like Halo (love those games btw). It's always been this way; it's a lot like watching a movie, which brings me to my next point. This game engrosses you into a film-like experience. When explosions take place you'll see dust actually hit and collect on the camera lens (brilliant). You can control the camera during cut-scenes focusing in and out of areas you find interest in. On top of the brilliant camera work there is the voice acting. The voice acting is amazing. No Metal Gear in the past has ever made me care or connect with the individuals in a game until MGS4. This is the first time we actually see Snake as a normal person, instead of just a weapon, a soldier. While playing this I watched what war has done to Snake and those around him, and found myself actually caring about the outcome of these characters. I don't know about you, but I don't find myself caring to much about the outcome of characters in a game too often. So, for me this was a sure sign of the greatness of MGS4. And the final reason I absolutely loved this game: the gameplay. This game is so well balanced between stealth and full-on balls-to-the-wall guns blazing action it's ridiculous. If you're in it for the stealth, play it that way and take it slow. If you're in it for the action, go guns-a-blazin'. It really doesn't matter. The game is balanced for your game style. I highly recommend to anyone that loves action, drama, appreciates film, or even just wants to see what the PS3 is capable of to at least rent this game (1080p with a smooth frame rate and everything rendered in-game and in realtime). If you don't like it, that's cool. Try something more your taste, but at least you can see it and maybe say "wow the future looks good for games." As for me, this is the best game I've ever played.
Great Game!!

Let me start off by saying I have been a gamer my whole life, yet I have never been truly into the MGS series through the years. With that being said, it is important to note the feel of this game. It is not a "run and gun" feel that may be comparible to COD4. Instead, your best outcomes will be a result of stealth movement and selective shot placement.
The gameplay is absolutely fantastic. Snake isnt able to move very quickly through the stage, but it is intended to be an espianoge game, hence the title. Having the ability to take classic guns as well as some new ones and make customizations make for a cool addition.
The graphics are unbelieveable. Just turn the game on. Second to none at this point.
This game, once you get the general feel, is one that is difficult to put down. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a first person shooter or other similiar action games.
BEST game for the ps3 right now(my opinion)

OK first I got to state that I have never played the previous MGS games so I don't know how good were the other ones. I loved this game and as I just passed it the only problem it has are the LONG cut scenes, don't get me wrong the story is probably the best thing about this game but they are very long. The graphics won't wow you still they are good. The gameplay is topnotch using stealth and shotting is a good combination and it will probably keep you playing to the end of the game still with the long cut scenes. This game as a lot of people have said is like a movie, but I really got attached to the story and snake so as the game ended I felt kind of sad. The online is hard to get through the registration process at first, but the online is not as good as the story mode, so if you buy games for the online only this game is not for you. I recommend this game for the story mode which is a 10 for me, but for online I would only recommend getting call of duty 4.Very good game overall.
For both fans and newcomers to the series alike...

If you own a PS3, this is a must-have title for your system. It delivers an epic story, great gameplay mechanics, and arguably the best visuals you'll see on a next-gen console.
Fans of the series will instantly be immersed in the storyline and fall right into the familiar gameplay elements, with some new additions to improve the experience. Improved shooting, a new weapons customization capability, and Drebin's shop all add to the overall experience.
Newcomers to the series may want to read a summary of the plot lines to this point in the series (wikipedia has a nice summary), but I've also heard people who have never played a previous MGS game say that isn't an issue. They enjoyed the game just as much as existing fans of the series.
In summary, this is an experience not to be missed. Part stealth, part shooter, part interactive movie....all great.

This game brings people full circle in the MGS series, and for those that haven't played them before can still get a solid grasp of what happened.
The graphics are amazing(1080p) sounds are involving as much as the story,
control is top notch. There's plenty to do and find, nothing is over-looked.
Currently when i play i help the resistance.
My only con is it's the last one!
I felt every emotion on the battlefield and during the cut-scenes (i never wanted liquid to die more than when i played this game!) when snake entered outer haven down the microwave corridor and at the end in the graveyard i cried! played it so long my relationship was put on the rocks.
Game of the Year vote from me.

I've been a fan of Metal Gear for quite awhile, but I've always felt the games could be better. Then comes MGS4, which addressed all of the things that bugged me about the previous Metal Gear games. The controls in this game are superb. The game play is so much improved to the point where it's damn near perfect. Finally, the cut scenes, which Metal Gear is famous for, are done so much better this time around.
There are only two games that have come out this year that I feel are worth the full $60 price tag associated with games now. GTA4, and MGS4. I honestly have to give the edge to MGS4 as being the better game though. I think GTA4 felt like a huge graphical and theatrical upgrade to that series, where MGS4 feels like it has the graphical and theatrical upgrade, but then it also moves the bar higher as far as game play, and in pretty significant ways.
If you're a fan of this series, there's no doubt that you'll love this game. If you're not a fan or are new to the series, and are open to a new type of experience, you'll most certainly love this game. It's definitely the best game on the PS3, and that's saying something because there are quite a few great PS3 games now.
