As a Big MGS Fan, a little disappointed with this one. The player view is a little hard to see your surrounding(Almost impossible to see who is coming) and view is NOT adjustable. This make me almost impossible to control. The story is attractive, but how the hell you expect me to remember something almost 10 year ago from MGS1. How the hell Snake have a big butt like this. It is just way off scale. Game speed is very slow. When the alert mode is on, snake move with speed of a turtle. Running & walking look the same speed to me. Anyway, still get it credit with good graphic & variety of weapon choice. I missed my MGS 3...
No fun, no gameplay.

MGS4 offered about 30 minutes of actual playtime in the three hours I "played" it before returning it. The rest of the time I watched boring cinematics that had too much unnecessary information. The gameplay of this title was fairly boring, with several of the levels being less than 1 minute long before another extremely long cutscene.
Cutscenes aside, this game really had nothing to offer me by way of gameplay. Sneaking is really not necessary in this game as blasting your way through the few enemies you find is far easier than trying to run around them.
Ultimately, this game is geared toward extremely hard-core Metal Gear fans. If you aren't one of those, then I would suggest disregarding the hype and picking up another title.

After reading about this game, and how great it is, I was expecting the most exciting game I've ever played. Needless, to say I was sorely disappointed. First off, I have not played MGS1, 2, or 3, and apparently you need to have played these games to understand what's going on this game, since all the old characters are back (apparently) and they give you no backstory about who's good, who's bad.
By far the most disappointing aspect of the game is the actual game play itself - it's nonexistent. You insert the game, wait 8 minutes for it to install, watch a movie for 10 minutes, play for 30 seconds, watch a movie for 5 minutes, play for 2 minutes, watch a movie for 15 minutes. Hello, I want to play a game, not watch a movie!!
The rare occasions when you get to play the game are poor, with the apparent battle-experienced Snake constantly needing to fix gun jams, and taking an agonizingly long 2 seconds to pull the trigger after you do.
Overall this game is a poor game wrapped around visually stunning graphics, and about 20 hours of movies. If you want to sit and watch movies instead of playing a game, this is the one for you.
A masterpiece to be appreciated

This game is not less than top notch. I mean graphics, gaming and story are really top of the line but...nothing in this world is perfect.
After completing majority of the game I got to the conclusion that you must be willing to be involved into the storyline, first of all (better if you played the other chapters) and enjoy what seems more like a movie than a game. Now, for all the MGS fan nerds out there, this will be what you asked for all your life, but for the average gamer this is really too much to take sometimes. Overwhelmed by the realism used and the attention to every detail i can tell it is enjoyable, but i think the creators let themselves go a little too much. There are really long, boring cut scenes between missions, sometimes one which leads to the other. NO, this was paced in the wrong way. Said so, I would say, if you are sure you want to be FULLY taken into the game, then accept the rules; otherwise, it's better just to rent it.

Short and sweet, here goes:
Do you like this series? You'll love this game. All the characters, amazing graphics and sound, another twisted mindfrag plot.
If you are NOT familiar with Metal Gear, then here's fair warning- the idea throughout the series has been to provide simple meat and potatoes arcade stealth gameplay with Hollywood cinematics and an occasional 'wtf? am I playing a game or not?' moment just to throw you off-guard. In addition, there is alot of TALK and alot of long moments given to characters espousing various rationales about the nature of warfare and it's cost and it's morality, it's immorality, the technical specs of a automatic rifle, why so and so joined the army in Urkutsk in the winter of 1969... etc etc
Comprende? If you're looking for a non-stop fragfest, then the single player story mode is NOT the game for you.
It's a style, it's very anime influenced. Some gamers love it, some hate it. If you're not sure, give it a rent.
If you loved Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater, go and buy it. You won't be disappointed.

In the top 3 games of all time right next to Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. This is the best of the series. Great visuals. Best story in a long time. Great AI, awesome enemy's with traits of past ones. And finally, one killer ending.
*Spolier Alert*
It wont end how you think it will, and thats all im saying about it.
My only real drawback is the installs, and the fact that it has to install every time, you start a chapter. They only take a few minutes, but you would think after one time, it would be saved.
But that dosent effect the overall. If you own a PS3, get it. If you own a 360, suck it up and buy a PS3 cause its not coming to ya.
Amazing title, but not for everyone.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I am a die-hard Metal Gear Solid fan. If you have never played a Metal Gear game before, then this game is definitely not for you. Most of the story is impossible to follow without completing ALL THREE of the other games in the series. If you have though, this is quite possibly the most entertaining experience I have ever received from a console. I would venture to say that it is the best game ever made, and the best series-closer from any form of media (kicks Return of the Jedi's butt anyway. Stupid Ewoks). Luckily, if you look to enjoy this game and all of its hype and you haven't beaten all 3 others, they have released a bundle that includes all three of the other games (two ps2 games and one ps1) for $30. I bought it at my local Wal Mart for $28.28 including tax.
Now, for those of you who are looking for a shooter, GTA game, or otherwise posted action game, this is NOT one of those. This is NOT intended to be a shooter. There are several shooting scenes, but this is STEALTH game as the series has always been. You CAN go through the levels shooting up everybody you see and making a bloody mess of the whole place (and I mean bloody; this game is rated M for a reason), but you get very little of the substance of it that way. If you treat this game as a sneaking game, and use stealth throughout out it, you get much more out of it and you feel much more accomplished when you beat levels than when you just go through shooting everyone.
There are a load of cinematics in this title, so be warned. You can skip them and not miss what you need to do next (you can always call one of the characters for a short explanation). If you look to have an HD experience and fully utilize the PS3's power for graphics and 1080p display, then this is a great title to own. There is one section of cutscene that lasts over an hour and a half right in the middle of the game, but it is very action-packed.
The bottom line is this:
DO NOT BUY this game if you want to play GTA or Resistance. Those games are called GTA and Resistance, respectively; not Metal Gear Solid. If you want to have a next-gen gaming experience unlike any other game, then this is the one for you. Also, if you have not played through the other 3 games from start to end, the story will be confusing and convoluted to you (well, even more so than it already is if you have), and this game is not recommended until you have done that.
In my opinion, this is the best game ever made if you consider where it's coming from and you know what to expect. I bought my PS3 solely for this game, and I'd consider it worth it if I never buy another ps3 game.

There is noth much to say about this game and at the same time you can write a book. I as an active gamer will say that this is THE BEST story of all times. Incredible that after ten years I finally have a chance along with others to see the end. I just passed the game. Could not watch the end without tears , like every other part of that great game.
Graphic is 10
Gameplay 10
Everything else 10
If you been playing other parts and followed the scenario than buy this game. If you never played mgs before do yourself a favor and play other parts first before playing in this one otherwise you wont understand what is going on.
Amazing game thats all i can say. Very interesting !!!
