The game is awesome, the the graphics are incredible, the action is superb, the improved controls are great and the story is exciting... there is no doubt that is one of the best games i've ever played! The reason i put 4 stars and not 5 is because of the cinematics: most of them are very long and sometimes very booring too. But that doesn't keep the game to be very enterteining.
SPOILER!!!: Going back to Shadow Moses Island with all this new graphics is something that i will never forget!

I just deleted my first review, because admitedly, I wrote it while still early on in the game. For the sake of comparison, this was it:
"I've owned the PS3 for about six months now, and MGS4 is in the top 3 games I've played for the system. The only other games that even come close are Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction.
If your reading these reviews, then chances are you've heard about things like mandatory installs, long cut-scenes, and a mediocre online experience. Well, you can forget everything negative you've heard about these things, because the game play and story are so good, so engaging, so fun, that any tiny little annoyances that you *may* experience are worth it."
Okay. While I still agree mostly with what I said, I HAD to drop my rating down to 4 stars after finishing the game. I didn't mind the long cut scenes through most of the game, but in ACT 5 the ratio of game to cutscene tipped in favor of cutscenes.
I won't go into detail to avoid spoilers, but there was A LOT of story to wrap up by the end, and while half of it was amazing, the other half started to bore me.
The bottom line is this: the game was a 5 star game until the story became too unwieldy. It was anticlimactic. Too much to wrap up. When Drebin started giving a history lesson on the Patriots, they lost me. The end of this game may be even more long-winded than the end of The Lord of the Rings.
So, I still love the game. I'm still going to play it again (skipping the cutscenes this time), and I still recommend it. But now, I'm starting to agree with the people who say that maybe, just maybe, this story was geared more towards the longtime MGS fans who know all the back story.

Every once in a while, a game comes along that is so great and so well-made, that it almost makes other games unplayable by comparison. Metal Gear Solid 4 is that game. Simply put, this game is amazing. It's indescribable. It's unlike any other gaming experience ever, and the entire time you're playing it, you're constantly awed, jaw hanging open, and completely filled with disbelief that what you're seeing has actually been accomplished.
The gameplay is unbelievably fluid. You'll be amazed how easy it is to move Snake around, to adjust the camera and to take down enemies. Nothing is clumsy here. I was stupefied when I saw the game go from cutscene to gameplay seamlessly and without a change in graphics. The cutscenes are truly the most cinematic ever seen in a video game. You can easily visualize this playing out in your local movie theater. The surround sound rivals most Blu-ray movies in existence.
Story-wise, it's about what you'd expect of Hideo Kojima. This is the final story of Solid Snake, and the closing chapter of everything you've been introduced to in the other games, including the prequel MGS3. If you haven't played the other games first, I'd highly recommend you do so before starting this one. In fact, Konami put a very convenient Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection out there for this very purpose. Metal Gear Solid 4 does a decent job of explaining all the backstory, but to truly grasp the impact of some of the characters (such as Big Mama), you need to have played the others. Your experience will be all the more enriched by it. By the time you reach the end, rest assured all your questions will have been answered...from the fate of Big Boss, to Foxdie, to the identity of the Patriots.
Yes, the cutscenes are many. During acts 4 and 5, you'll find the cutscenes far outnumber the gameplay, but at this point you're so wrapped up in the story that you really don't care. The ending is enormously long (so plan accordingly), but by the time the final credits roll you'll want to just start the game over again. The game literally has no shortcomings. It's a perfect game.
This is truly the Game of the Year. It's easily worth the price of the PlayStation 3, and if you're into this series, you can't own a PS3 without owning this game.
A good game.

I have never thought of Metal Gear games being great, but they have been consistently good over the years. One of the reason i think this is so,is the weak story,in fact, if i should recall any of the previous Metal Gear games i've played, how snake got there and why is snake going over there is the last thing that comes to mind. The storyline is so convoluted and disorienting in this game, it will leave you scratching your head as to what the hell is going on, and not to mention the painfully long cut scences.I fell asleep for 2 and a half hours just to wake to find them talking about giraffes with very long necks,ok, maybe not.Essentially thats the weakest part of this game. But make no mistake about it,MGS4 game play is rock solid. In no time you will be moving around in the MGS world like a pro, equip with your camouflage outfit, a multi purpose eye piece and a arsenal at your disposal. That is what really matters.Gameplay, and the only reason why i invest my time a money in this franchise.A good game, tons of replay value.

A Walk Through LifeWhat can i say about MGS4 well its the most amazing game i have ever played!
I have not completed any of the other MGS and i know that will effect me enjoying the game much more then i should be, but i can honestly say i am enjoying the game so much even without knowing the background of the series.
The graphics are the best i have seen on any console! They are litterally mindblowing!
Gameplay again is awesome using great tatics to get through the game, You go through the game using stealth and defeating 5 bosses (including Liquid) all from which you get an award from afterwards e.g Face camo (which gives you better camoflauge) from boss: laughing octopus
The game is about 15-20 hours long depending on difficulty and your skill at these kind of games, most of this is cut scenes as i have already said but that does not spoil the game, not intrested in the cut scenes? then you can skip them, all cut scenes are fully skipable, even though MGS is nothing without the cinematic story!
I would reccommend to play the others games, i regret not playing them and am not enjoying the cut scenes/story as much as i should be and instead just want to skip some of them.
MGS4 is a masterpiece, and mainly because of the spectacular cut scences, although the cut scenes can be very long, they range from 5-30mins long and 1 hour long ending cut scene but you will fully appreciate and enjoy these cut scenes if you understand them, the only downfall of this game is there is more cut scenes then gameplay but i do not see any other reason not to buy this game, even if you have not played the others like me.
Buy this game, i promise you will not regret it, the only thing you may regret is not playing the whole of this wonderful series and watching it come to end when the adventure seems like its only just begun for newcomers.
This game is perfect!!

From the beginning to the end of this game, I have never enjoyed a game so much. It is truly a work of art, a showpiece for the Playstation 3's technical abilities, and surely to be an example of one of the greatest games of all time.
I have no doubts when I say this game is as close to perfect as it gets, the visuals, the story, the controls, everything were completely in sync.
I have heard of numerous complaints about the long cut-scenes, my answer to that is, "Is this a game you should be playing?" If you are not one that appreciates fine story telling along with your gameplay that creates a believable world, then you are better off playing with your wii.
However, complaints that need to be addressed are-
*load times, although rare, prove to be annoying. I wonder how long it would have took if we didnt have mandatory installs?
*Following the story is dificult for first time Metal Gear players, such as myself, although I was still overwhelmed by the emotions that the characters created for me.
*The ending, DID SNAKE REALLY HAVE TO DIE, I MEAN COMMON!!!
But anyway, overall, it is without a doubt the best game I have ever played.
