Could Be The Best PS3 Game Ever

Graphics: Anything you will found wrong with the graphics would probably fall under nit-picking; the game runs at 1080p at 60fps with occasional dropping of framerates depending on the number of stuff on screen. Textures can vary from great to horrible...not much bump-mapping was used (if any at all)...one thing's certain: the female models are gorgeous! Especially Naomi (reminds me of a younger Monica Bellucci) and Rose.
Animation: Cutscene animations can't be any better; the gameplay animation (especially the transition animations) is another thing...IMO, the animations seem to have not improved since MGS2...it's still better than most games...but games like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed have surpassed MGS in terms of animation.
Gameplay: This is probably the only MGS where sneaking actually pays off. ..gameplay and location is varied and not monotonous. Plenty of weapons to choose from (upgradeable too!). Some of the levels gets pretty hard but not frustrating (unlike the difficult levels of GTA4). The boss fights pales in comparison to the previous ones (especially MGS3's "The End" sniper) EXCEPT for one...and I don't want to spoil it for everyone.
Cutscenes: I've played MGS since the MGS 1 on the PS1. MGS is known for long cutscenes. The problem with the 4th one is that they're far too many and far too long...........which detracts to the immersion of the game...this is a game, after all, not an interactive movie. That being said, you will enjoy the movies as twists and plots unfold. Note that these cutscenes can be skipped, but it sort of defeats the point of playing Metal Gear Solid.
Overall, it's a great game and any PS3 owner shouldn't miss it. If you're looking for a reason to buy a PS3, this is the one. IMO, it lives up to its hype FAR BETTER than GTA4.
The definitive game

I won't waste my time writing what everyone else has said. The fact that I am taking time is testimony to this games worth. Every genre from games to music to theater to movies will have a piece of work exclusive to that genre that (pardon the cliche'Metal Gear Solid 4) takes it to the next level and that is what this MGS4 does for the gaming, entertainment industry. Please just buy so I can read your post later.

To be honest, this is my first time buying and really playing a Metal Gear Solid game because I'm not much into the sneak around and be quiet games. After doing plenty of research, and even pestering the worker at the game store, I decided to buy MGS 4 because everything said you can run-and-gun. Not so much... I mean, if you consider slowly jogging and trying to not get shot (because about 6-8 bullets kill you) run-and-gun, then by all means, I guess it's a run-and-gun game. I was hoping it would be more along the lines of Halo or even BioShock, but Snake just moves way too slow. The graphics are great and the story line seems like it could be engrossing, so if you don't mind your soldier moving at a snail's pace, give this game a shot. If you like to really run-and-gun (and I mean run!!), then skip this game because you'll probably get aggravated during the first act.

I have beat the game twice over and am half-way through a third time. I have been a Metal Gear fan since Metal Gear Solid and absolutely loved the last three of the series. While I really, really like MGS4, I can't say that I love it. The graphics are pretty good, but just not colorful enough (although the cutscenes are gorgeous). The actual gameplay is fantastic. The weapons are the best of the series. The camo system is perfect. The boss fights are the absolute best ever in the entire series. Here's the thing, I care nothing about the story or the characters. The cutscenes are horrendously long. There is just way, way, way, way too much pointless talking. I mean, there just could and should have been a much better balance between story and gameplay like in Snake Eater. Is the game worth buying, absolutely. Is it the best in the series, probably not. Forget about 10/10 reviews. This game is a 9 at best.

This is it...This will finally tell us the secrets that we have been dying to know since we played Metal Gear for the NES.
What we soon know...
The secret behind Olga's child
The real fate of Snake, Otacon, Meryl, and Raiden
The truth behind Liquid's death
If there is a cure for FOXDIE
The secrets of the Patriots
and the real secret behind the Shadow Moses incident...
It will be worth buying the Playstation 3 to play this final chapter in what I call, the greatest video game series of all time...
Pretty bad game

Literally only about an hour of actual play time. I'm on Act 4 now and I've ticked in over 13 hours of cut scenes. This is a game you WATCH and don't PLAY.
The absolute most irritating thing is that some of the cut scenes, such as one with Raiden, is absolutely fantastic, displaying a massive battle scene, which of course, you yourself never get to partake in. You're sidelined the entire game, forced to watch the real events and never take part in any of it. Every so often you get to crawl under a bus or sneak along a wall, but right after you're back in a cut scene of the actual fighting.
I was further annoyed by the fact there is a virtual iPod in the game. You get to use it for about 2 minutes before its cut off again by another cut scene.
The graphics are ok, not great. The controls are superb, but again, you're rarely in control. Audio is average. The plot is laughable at best. You can tell the story has been stretched way too thin. It's like a bad military soap opera at this point. I was fully expecting Snake to get a brain tumor (He gets something else instead).
I regret spending so much on this game. It's really not worth it. In fact, calling it a game at all is a stretch. You play games, you watch movies.
way overrated

I think this may be the most overrated video game of all time. The action is dull. You basically just walk around and shoot people then try to hide when the alarm goes off and get to the next check point. The cutscenes are cool but way too long. I got through most of the game and got near the end that I was so disgusted with this game that I couldn't even finish it. Grand Theft Auto 4 is a much better game than this for the ps3!!
Enough with the cut scenes!

The game is nice to look at but it is not extraordinary. It's on par with most next generation games. The problem with it is that there are far too many cut scenes and they are far too long. I found myself annoyed, waiting for them to end, and wondering if gameplay would suffer by skipping them. And when you do get to play, the gameplay and the controls are tedious. It is not very natural or intuitive. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" is a better choice if you like to actually play a great combat game. I even preferred "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" as an example of an intuitive 3rd person shooter.
Story mode is great but MGO its terrible!

Since Im more into multiplayer than story mode, I was expecting metal gear online to be great.. but is the most terrible mutiplayer shooter game i had every play!.. its just terrible.. its to complex, they cant make it simple as COD4 or others... you need to shoot the guy like 30 to kill..etc, etc.. its just terrible game..
