Madden 2002 is the best football game I have ever played, it is way better than 2001. It has killer graphics, and great game play. If you are a big football fan you'll love this game, even if you don't know a touchdown from a hole in one you will love this game. So if your considering buying a football game you should buy Madden 2002!

Prepare to tweak the infamous Madden sliders for 30 days to find a realistic game, and then prepare to give up 6 months of your life to PS2 gaming! Once tweaked, it's one heck of a good football game, particularly if you also own NCAA 2002 and can import your draft classes! I'd have to say it is the best football game I've ever owned.

...while I don't have PS2 or any of the video games, my friend does and this is what he has me play when I come for a visit. All I can say is that it sure beats having to wait six months for the regular season to start and that it's a helluva lot of fun even for an ol' bird like me...also! ALSO....GO RAMS!

Madden NFL 2002 is probably my most-played PS2 game ever (I've played well over 100 games), because it's a great game.

Since you already know what's great about the game, here are my main problems Madden NFL 2002:

-The passing game: Default gameplay level has too many dropped passes (can be adjusted), deep passes too easy to complete, short passes too difficult to complete, too easy to throw across the field, too easy to complete "improvisation" routes (after a receiver completes his route, he will run back and forth until the ball is thrown)

-The running game: Too easy to run to the outside, too difficult to run up the middle

-Special teams: It's too easy to make long field goals, too easy to kick touchbacks

-A.I.: The computer should NEVER be able to run a play on a 30-count without getting a false start penalty (hut, hut hut, hut, hut, hut hut, etc.), snap counts should be silent counts in loud stadiums on the road, the computer should run the ball more often and more effectively

-Speed: Gameplay speed is okay (could be faster), filler in between plays is much too long

-Commentary: Absolutely atrocious in general, too repetitive, too unoriginal, player-specific comments are decent but used too much

-Control: Too much reliance on computer teammates to make a play

-Difficulty: Well done, although the computer does blatantly cheat on All-Madden

-Challenge system: Replay challenges are stupid and useless, as they fail to reverse even the most blatantly blown calls

-Interface: Game takes much too long to load, no way to "rematch" without loading menu and re-loading game, Free Agency period in Franchise mode progresses much too slowly

-Wish list: Fixes to above problems, halftime shows, different playoff commentary, post-game highlight reels, realistic (higher) occurrence of injuries, replacement of Pat Summerall, James Brown, and Leslie Visser (who add absolutely nothing to the game) with Al Michaels, better crowd atmosphere, better gameplay balance in passing and running games

All that said, it's pretty much tied with Sega's NFL 2K2 in my mind. They are both great and enjoyable games.

The easiest comparative argument is:
Sega's NFL 2K2, in general, sacrifices realism for speed and player control
EA's Madden NFL 2002, in general, sacrifices speed and player control for realism.

While not entirely true, it's the best way to concisely compare the two games. Either way you go, you've picked a great game.

We all know that the name Madden = Football. I made the dreaded mistake by buying GameDay last year instead of Madden 2001...well I already own it on my cpu. But this year I was one of the first to get my hands on a copy of this gem and I knew immediately what all the hype was all about. The graphics are phenomenal, the lineman is wider than the QB....etc. One minor problem, that the cpu version did not have, was that you cannot create your own plays. But overall its a GREAT game.

If this game were any more realistic I would be...

hanging out with Culpepper and Moss in a strip club in New Orleans after winning the super bowl. This game is the sickest thing to happen to the NFL since free agency. Okay so free agency ..., but this game allows you to do it all. Heck, I might actually be able to guide the Deadskins, er I mean Redskins to a Superbowl with a fantasy draft or a few trades. Thanks Pat and John for wonderful commentary and realism.

Improves on last years already great game!

Madden 2001 was a launch title for the PS2 last year, and it was the only launch title I really enjoyed. Now Madden returns for it's sophmore performance on the PS2 and this time it has even gotten better. The graphics are great but not much better then last years. The main graphical improvement over last years is the new animations. There are some new tackle and my favorite the new diving for TD animation(there is a special higher dive that the player uses for TD attempt dives. He will also reach the ball over if he is heading out of bounds). The game's diffculty has been raised making for many more solid hours of play. The only down side is the bad commentary. I really recommended this to anyone who even remotely likes football and never got last years version. To the people who got last years version, it is a maybe. I would say if you got a good at least 60-80 hours of gameplay out of the last upgrade.(heck I have gotton over 200 of last years and over 100 of this years already) Otherwise wait till it goes online next year.

the first words that came to my mouth when i played this game "OH MY GOD"... since i had never played or even seen Madden 2001 the graphics seemed absoultuley amazing....... the depth of the game is incredible with the ability to play 30 consecutive years if you want..... this game is simply awesome..... the controls, the graphics, the animation, the crowd are all simply awesome..... the only bad thing is the commentary which becomes a little repetitive but i'm usually too focused on the game to even hear the two talk.... but it is maddens game so you gotta cut him some slack.... but whatever this game is simply awesome the best game i own on PS2.......

Good improvements from Madden 2001

Aside from the player models and the jerseys (which have improved greatly) the graphics have not improved as much but their still the best. The commentary is still ...( But its understandable, its Madden). The gameplay is great it has new game modes and AI has improved alot although teams can still throw the ball easily. You have alot of goals for the game like madden cards and the franchise mode, the only thing that I dont like is that you dont get anything for winning the superbowl, still this is the best football game out there.(by far the best)
