God, everything about this game is flawless. Even with the realistic graphics and incredible animations of flying blood and flickering flames, the action remains smooth and crisp. Every single move is linked by smooth transitions that make you feel like a samurai in action. The gameplay is addictive, the puzzles are challenging, and the story, while unoriginal at times with cheesy dialogue, is strangely catchy at times. Plus, it has a great replay value to get all of the bunuses, like the hilarious panda suit and the ultra-powerful Bishamon Sword.
Overall, if there is one game you have to get for the PS2, this IS IT. Well worth every cent and then some.

This game blew my mind right from the opening credits, it's almost worth playing just for that. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is excellent. There's only one reason why this game should not be purchased by some people...length. The game time required to completely finish this game is about 4 hours, mind you it will take you a bit longer then that, if you don't know that's really short(hopefully the second version of this game will be longer). Besides that minor/major flaw (depending on how you look at it) this is one of the best games I have played thus far for the PS2.

I recently purchased a Playstation 2, an considered selling it after I bought a string of bad games. Afetr being dissapointed by games like Track and Field and Oni, I had lost my faith in Sony. I heard of Onimusha from a friend, and was blown away by how incredible it was.
Firstly, the Graphics. I could hardly tell the difference between the end of the first battle cutscene, and when the gameplay started, and the Graphics stay this good through the game, unlike games like Revenant, where the Graphics tend to get worse as the game goes on.
Usually, with games like this, the Gameplay is scratchy, and the polygons clash and sink through each other. Also, with fighting games, if you pull too many moves at a time, the game freezes. With Onimusha, I have never had any problems, and the fighting is not only amazing and hugely varied from flips and kicks to stabs and slashes with one of 11 different weapons. Like most games, it's not hack and slash. There IS strategy, and if you fail to use it, you WILL die.
The sound is good, possibly not as much as games like Final Fantasy, but the SFX sounds are amazing. Gunshots, screams, and talking is much clearer, while the background sound is varied, but is much of the same mystery type music.
Fans of Resident Evil who didn't buy it just for the guns will like this. The world of Onimusha is based on Ancient Japan's fascination with demons. You are Samonsuke, who battles his way through hundreds of different types of demon creatures with magical weapons and powers to aid him. The storyline is vast, and with different modes (which get progressively harder and open up new areas) and hidden games and secrets, the possibilities for multiplay are vast.
I'm ah Samurhi, is there anything more to really say?

I found my self unable to remove my butt from the beanbag, my eyes became one with the television set as I was a samurhi banishing demon's souls into my blinking wristwatch. Extreamly short but makes up with the lack of game time with the amazeing drewling expierence of BEING A SAMURHI!!! I loved it, I can't wait intell they make a sequel, hopefully they'll give it more game length, more goreing effects, and more movements. It's fun, really intereasting story line and trully one to collect dust on your shelfs.

Personaly CAPCOM is 1 of my favorite companies...and if you like resident evil, this is a game you wont want to miss! Awsome graphics, not much of a story, a cool samuri sword, and gameplay much like CAPCOM's RE series. I havent beat the game yet but from what i have heard, its a pretty short game. But it also has an amazing ammount of replay value! I always start the game over just so i can go back and kill those stupid little zobies with the chineise hats... There is alot of diologe in this game and alot of those puzzles that CAPCOM interduced in Resident Evil 2 and 3. This game is a fun game that will keep you playing for hours and will make a fine edtion to any collection!

i L O V E video games, and really wish that more of them got me as excited as the ads for the games seem too. This game had its moments, and it was the first game I played on PS2 (came with the system where I got mine). I was blown away initially- especially with the opening movie etc... but very soon thereafter had a real de-ja-vue feeling about the game. The still camera and akward pauses as you move from one screen to the next, and the VERY annoying enemy just off the screen where you can't see or attack has gotten way to old. Ultimately I think the game just isn't "dynamic" enough to keep my interest. BTW to give you perspective, my all time favorite video game is Tomb Raider- the original. It was unique, exciting, I actually jumped outta my seat when that first Tyrannosaurus came at me (you remember don't you!) and the puzzles were hard enough to keep my interest but not so crazy hard you needed a $20.00 strategy guide to finish it. Onimusha lacks that innovation. Rent it if you love the Res Evil thing, otherwise... save your dough and wait.

Capcom, creators of the awfully cliché Resident Evil series, time travel to the ages of Feudal Japan, and surprisingly enough, their undead creatures have a special magic to them. As anyone who knows me ought to know, I despise the whole "Resident Evil Phenomenon", with perhaps the sole exception of Resident Evil 1. But I know a good game when I see one, and certainly this is one of them, despite the fact of being a short one. Even though the story line is, in NO WAY 100% original, it still makes up for a decent game: You take the role of Smanuske, a Samurai in the hunt of princess Yuki who has been kidnapped by "The Demons" to be offered as a sacrifice during a ceremony that will seal the pact between the Demons and the "filthy" humans. Sounds way to damn linear, right? And of course it is, but linear story line is masterfully contrasted with an addicting gaming experience, plus a macabre "medical" look at the demons' doing, a trick that works marvels in comparison to the cliché "crazy scientists" of Resident Evil. A fine game for the PS2 and highly recommended, go for it!

If you've played any game from the Resident Evil series before, most of this game will seem familiar. There is killing of undead creatures, some disgusting bosses to kill, and annoying puzzles to solve. In that regard, I was somewhat disappointed in this game, because I had heard such good things about it.
The control and graphics are some of the best I have seen, patricularly the characters' faces. It almost seems like a real person's face was scanned and stuck on the character's body.
All in all, a decent game if you never played Resident Evil before.

Hey all you Resident Evil philistines.... Onimusha was a great interlude while awaiting the first PS2 version of RE. In fact, RE could learn a few things from Warlords (tired of spelling oni... onimushi, onimusha) -- If CAPCOM could have Claire Redfield or Leon move with as many options as Samonoske... then we'd REALLY have something. Warlords (although short) adds that video game component that RE lacks ... my [gosh] it would be great if CAPCOM could increase the zombie count and allow claire some more killing options. I thought the use of the gauntlet to accumulate strength was a nice deviation from standard RE health gauges. Complain all you want about it being too short, too easy -- it was $... and entertained you for awhile... a date to the movies with a few beers will run you $50 -- so that should cover the cost of a rainy Tuesday night instead of a movie rental by youtself.
