GREAT GAME

I bought the import version of this game, basically you will have to have a basic knowledge of Japanese to fully enjoy. That aside a great addition to survival horror genre.

Best new title for 2001

Bought the game yesterday. Probably the best new game I've played all year. Not a big gore fan, but the gameplay is amazing, the graphics are what I have been waiting for in the PS2, and the storyline is incredible. If this is what the PS2 is about, can't wait till ZOE and MGS2.

Not old or new but middle school...

By now you've heard the "Resident Evil with swords" description and that pretty much somes it up. Onimusha doesn't break much new ground and is a little lighter on the story than other survival horror games but it's a blast to play none the less. You do a lot less running back and forth looking for items and a lot more fighting, mainly due to the re-spawning or enemies. The controls will be almost second hand to anyone who's played any of the Resident Evil games and newcomers shouldn't have too much of a problem either. The graphics and music are both top notch, though the english voice overs could of been better. It's actually better to turn on the Japanesse dialogue with English subtitles because it fits the game a little better. All in all a good first showing, definately worth buying, but next time around Capcom needs to take things to the next level.

Another worth while game

Now this like I said in other games is just amzing with graphics. There are few FMV's but the real time polygon background and facial expressions makes that all up. The graphicle power put into that face is purly amazing. I did not no they could do that t'ill a couple weeks ago. You can hear them talk and thats a great improvment on games. The reason why I give it 4 Star, which pains me. Is that its just to short. The game is to short and that really is annoying. A could game like that. Shame. Well any way get it. If you like samuri fighting. Good Luck!

He hasn't slept yet ! !

Onimusha is the best release yet for the Playstation2 - Hands Down! We just picked it up yesterday and my boyfriend has not slept yet! The graphics are incredibly realistic, puzzles challenging, and the characters are excellent! (Wait until you see the weird guy hanging from the ceiling!) Remanisent of the Resident Evil days, only this time in a movie format - or that's what you would swear when you see the shots of the water and other detailed graphics. Even as a spectator it is enjoyable and entertaining. We are definatly glad we pre-ordered this game, it's going to sell like crazy PLUS it came with a free T-shirt! 10+ Rating 5 stars*****

A day early and a great game

I just purchased Onimusha a day early from a local retailer and my first impression was astounding. The opening movies (although a little lengthy) are absolutely gorgeous. The game basically is set up as a movie with you playing the title charecter. The game play does not disappoint. The controls are rather simple to grasp. The game is very innovative with many new moves and plenty of puzzles to keep you busy. A few of the problems i found was the camera angles were sometimes in awkward position restricting your vision of monsters. The game also was very short besides the movies. All in all this game was very fun and i recommend renting this game before buying because the replay value is not as great as other titles.

Onimusha is a great game

Have you ever wonder what Resident evil would be like if set in japans past? Well here is your chance to find out. The opening cinematic is great it really pulls you in to the story line. The game play is smooth, there was a few times when I was playing it the game paused to load. The visuals are stunning. The controls are simple but effective. The options are nice you can set the game to have the Japanese's or English subtitles or Dialog the English dialog is kind'a of lame so I just use the subtitles. All in all the game is great.

excellent game!!!

I waited this game for about a month and read all the reviews. With my expection, the graphic of the game is superb. Intro scene was movie-like where characters were almost look like real people. Although graphic was great, the story line was kind of cheesy. And it was not clear what is going on in the beginning. Still, the fighting enemy, looking for a items, and solving chest puzzle was fun. However, the control of the game can be very confusing and annoying. Since the forward button is always up, when you walking down on the screen, you can confuse and press down button where you backward instead of walking forward. This can be annoying for first 15 min but you will get use to it. Another bad control was that it is kind of hard to face the enemy. Although it does it automatically when you press the attack button, it would have been nice if they have a button to face the enemy like Soul Reaver. Overall the game is very easy to learn and fun. If you are looking for adventure game, this is a great game to have. I have not finished the game, but I can not hardly wait to play again. Since I did not finished the game yet, if you want to know what is the re-play value of the game, read other reviews.

Resident Evil on Steroids

Quite simply one of the most visually stunning games I've ever seen, Onimusha: Warlords also has the distinction of being the most enjoyable games I've played for the PS2. The game is developed by the same people who made the Resident Evil games, and it employs a very similar gaming style. The controller layout is the same, as is the inventory system. The gameplay, however, has been slightly altered. The action is similar, but there is a lot more of it. Accordingly, the puzzles have been stripped down. The biggest change, though, is with the weapons. Instead of killing zombies with guns, you get to kill them with swords. This might not sound like a big deal, but when the enemy is out of camera range, it's much easier to connect with a swing of a sword than with a bullet. Having enemies out of camera range is something that happens surprisingly often in this game, due to the pre-rendered backgrounds and set camera angles. Though, in their defense, those backgrounds are absolutely some of the most stunnig backgrounds in video games. Also, using pre-rendered backgrounds frees up polygons, all of which go into the most detailed characters I've ever seen. While you're playing, it looks like a real person battling real demons in a real feudal Japan. Absolutely stunning. Onimusha: Warlords is an outstanding game, from the gameplay to the graphics, and I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.

Capcom delivers a must own for PS2

This game is great. If you liked Resident Evil you'll love this game. Grapics- The Grapics are jaw dropping. The Opening CG scene is the best in any video game and at some points you belive it is real! Control- If you have played Resident Evil you will be right at home. If not it will take a couple of seconds to get use too. Gameplay- Again same as RE but with a sword. Of course their are puzzles etc. Bottom Line- This game is a must have if you have a PS2! Trust ME!
