A Tale About a Man With Guts...

Something is suddenly changed in the Capcom with the release of the ps2.First the samurai action style Onimusha, and now this. No,I'm not complaining.
The game starts with a story about a demon-knight who choosed to take part along the humans and fought against an arch-enemy.
Two milleniums later, after Sparda sent the Dark Emperor to its homeland, his son Dante, who is a paranormal activities detective, gets a job from a misterious woman who looks just like his mother. Then he jumps on to Mallet Ýsland and the tale begins..
First of all,the gameplay allows you to do a swarm of stylish combos shortly after you started the game. After 2 minutes, you will play just like the trailer of the game.
The graphics are brilliant. There's nothing much to say.
The gameplay is also easy and enjoyable. Not like the others, this game will enjoy you while you're playing with your mouth open. And after finishing it,you can play again or continue to make progresses in Dante.
And Dante ,of course,is another reason for playing. The developers finally found the perfect style for their heroes(lik max payne)
And oh,i nearly forgot, the musics are in death-metal.so the hardcore fans-like me- must buy this game, play it,and continue to playing until the second game hits the stores the next year...

This game is a little like resident evil except has more to do with the underworld than a virus. anyway it's still a great game the controls are a little easier then the resident evil games. the graphics are good, of course, and it's pretty fun there is also this setting at a certain part of the game where it asks you if you would like to set the game to easy auto. you only have one chancer to make the selection. Easy auto pretty much makes the game easier and all your weapons will be automatic.

When I first went over to my friend's house after he got back from his vacation, he was preaching about this game. So I tried it. Let me say, it is awesome. The weapons are great. Ebony and Ivory, Dante's pistols, shoot insanely fast. The Shotgun is powerful but obviously slow loading. Those are the only weapons I know since I'm only on Mission 6(one of my gripes, the Missions instead of being able to roam free). The swords are pretty cool. Once I got my first new sword, I fell in love. But, the bosses are kinda easy. When I fought the giant spider both times, all I had to do was Devil Trigger and hit him a few times with my sword. But, I still recommend it.

Devil May Cry, But You Sure Won't While Playing It!

I was very skepticle when I first learned of Devil May Cry. I took a chance and purchased it anyway. I can say that this is one of those games that you just cannot regret purchasing. It's hard to describe what type of game it is. Certainly if you're a fan of the Resident Evils, or Silent Hills, you'll enjoy this particular game. At first one may feel like it is a bit difficult to understand and play. At times throughout the game it may even seem like it is impossible to beat. But that's the beauty of it. It isn't the kind of game that one would finish within a couple days (unless you don't have anything else to do like eat and sleep). The graphics are incredible. The game play is awesome. The characters are well thought up, and the difficulty can certainly go through the roof. Words can't describe how pleased I am with it. Every chance I get, I'm glued in front of the television fighting my way through a huge castle that only some really gifted minds would dream up. I'm sorry, I have to go play it again. I recommend anyone with a PS2 to pick up a copy and enter a world where evil reigns supreme, then try and blast your way out of it. Five stars people...

WOW. This games is like Onimusha on steroids. It is Very Addicting, so if you have responsibilities, BEWARE. The graphics are great, the game play is fast, and the story is okay. The biggest drawback is that the game is too short. Other than that, the ONE drawback this game has is shattered, by all it's strenghts Why are you reading this... BUY IT!

I AM STILL IN AWE!!

It took me awhile to talk myself into trying this game out. I had heard stuff here and there about how awesome the graphics were and how great the acion was, but i checked out the back of the box and really didn't see anything special going on it the, screen shots weren't all that, and the game to me didn't sound that great, so i continually passed it up. Now i never buy a game before i rent it and play it (with exception to MGS2 of course)but i never got around to renting this, i always passed it up for GTA3 or 007 Agent Under Fire (which isn't that great) but finally when i was bored one day i decided to check it out, and let me tell you i was so mad at myself for not playing this earlier. This is game is simply mind blowing, the graphics are absolutely beautiful, i mean absolutely stunning, i know you hear that alot, and i get tired of it to, but it is no joke here, it is the real deal, the action is like everyone says, fast furious and breathtaking. And lets not forget the soundtrack, different people have different opinions on it but i for one enjoy the hell out of it. I wont get into the story of the game, you can read that elsewhere. Please if you haven't played this game, even if you aren't a resident evil fan, don't punish yourself any longer, get up and go rent it, i am not telling you to drop fifty bucks blindly, just give it a rental and see if you fall in love with it like i did, then go buy it. You cannot for wrong with this breathtakingly beautiful game, give it a try.

This is perhaps one of the best beat-em-ups that the PS2 has to offer. In some ways, that's saying a lot (the controls are responsive and decently tailored to the environments, the combos are relatively interesting, and there is decent weapon variety) and not that much.

Honestly, this game is all about hack and slash and kill the monsters; it doesn't pretend to be otherwise. There is little plot to speak of, but the monsters have interesting designs and the attacks based on what weapons you have equipped are quite amusing.

Where DMC really falls down is the camera. I was tearing out my hair most of the time because, even though a camera angle may be good for being cinematic, it probably STINKS for gameplay. That and some overly annoying boss-battles and supremely difficult "secret missions" make it a bit less than perfect.

Don't get me wrong, though, it's still wonderful if all you want is some good ol' fashioned carnage on the PS2. :)

An excellent, if short game with fantastic and original environments

There is not much that I can say about this game that has not already been said. It is a third person action/platformer (more action than platform) with a locked camera system a la the early Resident Evil games or Onimusha games. Unlike those earlier games, however, Devil May Cry's environments are all rendered in-game, and they are, almost entirely, beautiful and extremely unique. Some of the scenes you will see you will not have seen before.
The controls are excellent in this title, close to the level of near-perfection that has been achieved by God of War (four years after Devil May Cry came out, mind you). Dante, the main character, is fast and fearsome, and he needs to be.
The story is a bit ho-hum, but really this is not a title meant for a deeply involving plotline. You'll like Dante with his bad-ass attitude, and you'll know you're supposed to be killing the things that are trying to kill you. The in-game cut scenes are all pretty well done, although I found the music was too loud in comparison with the voices.
There are two problems with this game, neither of which should keep you from trying it--or buying it, since it's so cheap now. One, the difficulty settings are skewed: Easy, which you can unlock if you die once in the first three missions on Normal mode, is waayyy too easy. Bosses die in moments, enemies are push overs, and you will probably not die more than once or twice, even if you are usually bad at these types of games. However, that being said, Normal mode is pretty difficult, especially in the beginning when you are getting used to the controls. Expect to die--a lot--with certain bosses.
The other main problem is the length. This is a short-but-sweet experience. There are really only five bosses, four of which you'll face two to three times each (four in some cases). This repitition is okay to some degree because the bosses are pretty fun battles, and as you get stronger they get easier to kill, but still, a bit more variety in the bosses to match the creative environments would have been nice. Expect to get most of the length from this game via dying and retrying (if you play on Normal mode); on Easy, you could breeze through this, as I did the first time, in four hours.
All said, this is a remarkable achievement for 2001, and certainly at the time of its release it deserved the accolades that were lauded on it. Now, four years and several excellent third person action games later (ie God of War, Onimusha 3, Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox), Devil May Cry still holds up well as a solid, if brief, experience. If you haven't played it yet then you probably can't go wrong buying it given how inexpensive it now is.
Destined to be rememered fondly as a classic of the PS2's early days.

i really liked this game... i had alot of fun but the abrupt camera angles made some of the boss battles much more frustrating than they had to be... it's worthy of all the praise graphic wise... and for the most part it's pretty fun... when your lining up your target and suddenly the camera angle changes and theres a pillar in the way... i understand this is a really challenging problem for 3-d game designers but you would think by now someone would get it right! i can't finish it... it gives me a headache.
