First of all the intro to Devil May Cry will put some people off, but as soon as our hero Dante quits the cut scene and goes into action all you can do is let your jaw hit the floor. There are parts to the game that defy belief and look almost hyper-real, especially the final battles which roar into life with all of your accumulated powers and weapons. The graphics are nothing short of absolutely stunning.
What makes Devil May Cry so good is its uniqueness and originality as a beat em up. The moves are all larger-than-life as Dante spins up a wall, shooting both revolvers at demon puppets before drawing out his neon glowing sword and slicing everything up in site. The fluidity of the controls and the movements are second to none. Just dancing around the place superhero style is a sight to behold and cherish.
Devil May Cry gets the thumbs up for this reviewer. I loved ever aspect of this fantasy action game and it did not slow down for a single moment. Every new development just wanted me to press on further and finish the game. The story is actually good and coherent. The set designs, locations, interiors and places are all gob-smacking stuff. The detail is unparalleled by any game of its type on the PS2 and that says a lot.
In short this is one of the best games you can buy for the PS2 and you will have hours of total and complete exhilarating fun if beat em ups are your sort of thing. This is really a very good game that has this reviewer bought and sold.
Simply great!

In my first review for Devil May Cry, I praised nearly every single detail about the fast paced, kick ass action adventure from the numerous challenging monsters, to the best leading man to ever grace the cover of a video game, Dante. Replaying the original over the years does not change my views on this spectacular game, but instead enhances it. Other than Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry is the best game ever created for the PS2. The main reason for this, as I said before, is the main character Dante. The son of Sparda and self employed demon slayer is the epitomy of cool. You see this guy coming at you, you turn the other way, it's really as simple as that. Although the game is short, playing on many levels of difficulty will enable you to showcase your numerous combo moves and new equipment you picked up throughout the game. Enemies are plentiful, and there are just enough weapons to hold you over. Devil May Cry is the definition of superb video gameing, and is a must for any PS2 owner.

THE GOOD THINGS
THE STORY
Whether you like it or not the story isn't that original, or even compelling. You see I was spoiled by games with great plots or even characters I care about.
DANTE
I think Dante rocks, and I care more about his journey than Riddick's. Plus he has a big sword, Whats more better than slicing things with a big sword?
The Gameplay
This game is really easy to get into, and the controls are easy. And the game is an action extravaganza.
My Thoughts
In the end this was just an incredible Hack-and-Slash. So if you want to just kill things, than this is the game for you.
Based on the Demo, this game is a Must-Buy!

Alright, as the first person (as of this writing, anyway) to post on here who seems to have actually played the game, I'll do my best to re-create the experience of actually playing it through words. Hmmmm. And, of course, that's just not going to happen the way it should. Oh well, I guess I'll just tell you how great it is. The game (the demo, anyway) picks up with Dante entering a hallway. As you trot down the hallway, you'll no doubt notice the fine framerate - a solid 60 frames per second, just as smooth as the likes of Twisted Metal: Black. Then, as you walk, you stuble across a marionette-type bad guy. Naturally, you attack him...and are instantly amazed that you somehow managed to 3 hit combo him with the enormous electricity-covered sword you're holding, knock him a good 15 feet into the air, and then, while he's floating, pull out your dual pistols and juggle him IN MID AIR for a good 3 seconds with bullets until he falls apart. All this comes so intuitively that you barely even know you did it. That's how great and responsive the control scheme is. While the graphics are certaintly this game's selling point (and good lord, are they beautiful) what many don't realize is that the control and handling of the game are so tight as to rival such 2D games like Castlevania: SOTN. In fact, that's the best way to explain this game. Think Castlevania, in 3D, done the way it should be. Gone is the clunkyness that typically accompanies 3D games, and in it's place is the kind of speed and responsiveness most 2D platformers WISH they had. Dante moves like a dream, and with only about 5 minutes practice you'll be pulling off moves that have other people in the room staring at the TV in absoulute amazement and asking you things like, "How the hell did you do that!?" The game's plot is nonexistant in the demo, but there seem to be enough elements in place as to hint at a halfway decent story. The one time Dante speaks, he sounds fine, if a bit of a low talker. Simply put, this game has "legend" status stamped all over it. Don't miss out: Preorder the second you get done reading this! And when it comes, take a good week or so off and prepare yourself.

Holy ...! That's all I can say after playing the demo to this game. DMC is FLAWLESS. If you own a PS2 you have to purchase this game. Even if you don't own a PS2, this game warrants the purchase of one. It's that good. But then again, if hacking demons, blasting the hell out of zombies with huge guns, and morphing into the devil, all at a blistering 60 frames per second isn't your sort of thing, maybe you shouldn't get this game after all.
Probably will be the best game yet for PS2! (base on demo)

I recieved a copy of the demo for this game in the RE Code Veronica game box. Which first of all is a great game but this one really takes the cake. The music is anything but boring. It puts you on an adrenaline rush as you pummel through hundreds of enemies with your sword and guns. The graphics are the best I have ever seen and if you like GAMES AT ALL you will LOVE this. Be first in line to buy it...I know I will
The Devil Would Cry if he saw his name attached to this.

I do not understand all the praise for this game. Not only is their little to no plot (except for the one they throw in at the end to give you some kind of closure), but this so-called action packed action thriller slows down the action with these missions that have you scratching your head.
"Why do I need this orb?"
"How come I have to open this stupid door?"
"Why the heck am I doing any of this at all?"
I asked myself constantly why each mission was so important when the game was giving me absolutely no reason for any of it. I tried to enjoy the action but was caught up looking for items or trying to open doors to reach the next level. Some missions are so short, literally all you might do is run and open a door and a mission is over. The action would feel more intense if you were forced into most of your fights but if you wished you could simply run away from at least half the battles. The bosses were pretty cool but the motivation really wasn't there.
Who were these people to you?
Why do they want you to die?
If they wish to make this a real action game, forget the 'resident evil' style puzzles and just do a 'final fight' type style where you just have to fight your way to the end of a level.
I just really wasn't all that impressed. It was really short and since their was no plot I felt nothing for the main character or the villian for that matter. It was over before it began.
It was like a summer blockbuster movie, with no plot, not as much action as promised, and too many special effects. A very underwhelming experience of a game. I'm glad it was cheap.

I found myself tapping the controller like crazy which was fun at first, but I didn't have to think at all to get through the game. For those of us who love to solve puzzles in a game, this game is more fun to tinker with than to actually try to master. I bought it when it was new for $..... then I had beaten it 3 times before the end of the night. It was a real let down at the time, but now I've found that it's a really great way to let off some steam at the end of a day. The graphics are smooth and pretty. The story and acting completely lack originality. The concept of using both a sword and guns was fun. Imagine Tomb Raider with more action but without all the puzzles.

This game is absolutely extraodinary. I have played the demo through about 10 times now and it gets better every time! Graphics that rival the Bouncer, SSX and Gran Turismo 3. Action that blows the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo out of the water. Gothic sounds that scare Silent Hill 2. Ingenuity all the way through. This game has parts where you play in first person view and even a couple of vehicle sequences at the end. Konami better watch out because the resident evil series' creators just got a whole lot cooler, right along with this new series.

Once again Shinji Mikami has successfully made money off of someone else's ideas. Just like Simon Belmont or Alucard, in Devil May Cry you are a Supreme hero summoned to follow in your father's footsteps to rid the world from Evil. ... Instead of saying, "Die Monster, you don't belong in this world!" you say, "Flock off feather face, or you can stick around and find out the hard way!"
This game is a IN YOUR FACE arena of firepower and gore. All you do is run around and kill everything that's stupid enough to move. You are a collector of very original guns, such as the Rocketlauncher, shotgun, and pistols. You obtain a very small percentage of swords, which can't even be upgraded. You can, however, buy yourself some extra abilities, which are fun and easy to utilize. You have the option to buy additional items as well, such as Holy Water (CastleVania) which kills everything in sight. Your money, is blood in the form of gems, that you extract from the enemies you kill. (more CastleVania)
The puzzles....what am I saying? There are no puzzles. Just get your gun and sword, and turn your enemies into toss salad. I beat the game in 11 hours, when at the same time I was beating Grand Theft Auto 3. Rent Devil May Cry; finish it, and later forget about it. The groudwork of this game is as empty as it's soul.
