Tony hawk pro skater is an awful game. There is alot of blood, and it is annoying. The music is poor, using poor word choice. It is very annoying. Buy thrasher instead. It's a little bit of fun stating around, but it really sucks. It DEFINETLY ISN'T WORTH THE PRICE.
Revolutionary, but no depth

These days games carry SO MUCH depth, example game modes, characters, areas/platforms, etc. Unfortunately, TONY HAWK Pro Skater suffers in that area, which therefore makes it not worth the price of $40. On the PRO side, The graphics are simply tremendous, the levels look fabulous, character design, stats, all the features, brilliantly done. But it's not enough. The one player mode easily gets boring, but 2 player is revolutionary, they could've added multi tap, but NO. This game is worth 20, not $40, and wait for it to get on greatest hits.
Too Easy

This game gets kinda boring after a while. I've been playing it for a week, and I'm already tired of it. That bums me out. I wish there was more to do, once you get really good at it, something more challenging. Maybe it's meant for really little kids, not hard-core gamers. I think I might get the Thrasher game, I heard it's harder. Anyone else compared them yet?

this game isnt exactly as good as people make it out to be. there is not a huge variety of tricks to do and there mostly vert tricks. this game shows no value to street skaters because most of the tricks that earn you big points are vert tricks. This game thought is fun. Its really easy and ideal for people that dont know anything about skateboarding. The pros are good and the board grpahics are cool to. But there are no up and coming skaters. i found it fun and easy but it also kind of brings you into a fantasy world of skateboarding where you there a ramps in malls and rails in area 51.
Fun, but very dated

Back when this game first came out, it was a groundbreaking effort for extreme sports video-games, most of which were, (and for the most part, still are) mediocre at best. The tricking system was simple, and easy to learn. The level design was the best in the genre, and the level objectives were fun.
But that was three years ago. Today, even for the incredibly cheap asking price I just can't recommend purchasing the original game in this series, beacuse for just a few dollars more you could do a whole lot better with any of the sequels in the series. Provided, the latest two sequels (3 and 4) were primarily designed for next-generation consoles, but they did come out on PLaystation 1, Game Boy Advance, and dare I say, Game Boy Color, so you should be able to find the game of your choice on the platform of your choice.
shame on tony

man did i have fun playing this game for about two months.i played it everyday.i never got tired of it.if i reviewed this game two months ago i would have gave it 10 stars.then i realized (i do skate so i know about this stuff) that the tricks are very limited (i realized this when i first played it, but it really hit me this time).i got really tired of it.the graphics are great and being able to be kareem campbell topped it off.then thrasher came out and blew this game away(you could see my review on thrasher if you want).i'll talk about thrasher in my thrasher review.but the music was bad on tony hawk, what he needed was some hip-hop like thrasher.and way more tricks.you cant even do frontside k-grinds! and frontside smith grinds right! or manuals! or nollie tricks right! if you want a skate game and have to choose between thrasher or tony hawhk get thrasher.and one more thing tony hawk is ways to easy, thrashe gives me a challenge.
Sadly short...

This game is very fun, while it lasts anyway. The graphics are great, the music is fantastic, the moves are cool, and the levels are cool too. But even though it can be a little challenging, the truth is, the game is just too short. The game is not enough of a challenge, there are only 30 tapes in 6 levels with three competitions, and the game takes no time to blaze through. Even though it is harder to combo, the game often gives you more points than it should. If you're just going after three gold medals, a person could beat this game with two different characters in a day. If you're going for all the tapes, it depends on the person. Maybe a day, maybe two. There isn't much depth to a lot of the gameplay, and it gets old really quick. The length of the game and how easy it is cut two stars off the game's rating. The game had more potential than the hype and what it really was, but for now, and even in the second, it's not much...
THPS is ok.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater is a fun game.
PROS:
1)really fun
2)levels are huge
3)2 player mode good
4)alot of tricks and specials
CONS:
1)graphics are choppy
2)characters are jaggy
3)controls get difficult in small areas
4)gameplay gets a little repedative
So if you have a playstation and are looking for a good skating game don't go for Tony Hawks Pro Skater (go for the new ones). It was good for its time but is now old and out dated.
If you have a Gameshark, use the anti-DK code...

This is a great game! The levels are BIG, and the conrol is easy to pick up. The only real problems with the game are these: 1. There is a Gameshark code that let's you disable the Dead Kennedys song. USE IT! All those great songs they put out, and someone chose the most annoying one to throw in the game. 2. The control lacks a certain finesse when you're in a tight spot, but nothing bad enough to make you want to bounce the controller of the TV.
Lots of fun...

This game is really a fun game, but it doesn't really feel like skateboarding. You don't get to control your speed very well and the tricks are nothing like real skateboarding. Don't get me wrong, I really like this game, but if you want a skateboarding game, Thrasher Skate and Destroy is a lot better. It takes some time to get used to, but it's a lot more fun after you do.
