I love this game. All the worlds are fully skateable and the tricks you can pull are really phat. Different skaters do their own signature moves and the graphics are good too.Get big off jumps and go for the overhead rails for the big points. Combine different moves in the air and add 360, 540, and 720 spins to them. Grab this game along with some serious air! You won't be able to stop playing it!
Good game even if you've never skate boarded in your life

Okay so I guess I did skate board for about 6 months when I was a kid, but this game is great even though I've never been in to it very much. It involves a lot of challenges and the learning curve is nice and easy, you find yourself using simple moves at first to get through the various levels but as you move on and start experimenting with different combinations the levels seem to ramp up just right to meet your difficulty. I often had to play a level three or four times to beat whatever the current goal I was working on was but it never got so frustrating that I just couldn't stand it. Winning the new boards and access to the new courses will keep you going for hours. Overall a well put together game, very smooth and looks sharp. My only problem is that occasionally I seem to crash when I have no clue why other than that this is a great game.

Tony Hawk was bar-none the best game of '99. Though a seemingly simplistic and somewhat tired idea on the surface, the creativity and innovation evident in the gameplay remove any and all doubts about the quality and longevity of the game. With a learning curve thats just sharp enough to provide a true challenge, and a bevy of tricks, grinds, and specials as well as a diverse selection of places and ways to perform them, Tony Hawk continues to entertain long after you beat it. I have owned the game for several months and curently I am trying to beat my record of 343,380 on Chicago Skate Park with mind numbing difficulty and despite successive failures have not lost interest in the task at hand.
I can not stop playing this game!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has got to sport the best replay value of any game on earth. Its great because you dont have to be a fan of the sport to play this fantastic skate boarding game. Play in many different enviornmets, like skate parks for example with ramps, rails and pools to all perform fantastic high air tricks. Its also nice because the learning curve is not too great. I picked this game up and was jumping off ramps, spining, board kicking and sliding down rails in no time. I just can not stop playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, I think I may need profesional help!

When it comes to playing video games on either PC or Playstation, I favor mostly RPGs and Strategy games. And as for sports, I focus mainly on football and hockey. It's never too late to broaden your horizons. I finally got around to picking this game up after I bought Tony Hawk 2 for my niece this Christmas. She kicked my arse rather rapidly, but that was okay because in the process I got seriously addicted to playing this game. Seeing as how I haven't done any skating in almost 15 years (I'm 23 now), I kinda allowed my self to forget how much damned fun it was. Yeah, stop laughing. Anyway, I fired up THPS last night and the world just kinda...well...went away for awhile. Graphics are not too shabby, and you never suffer death by camera like in a few other games I've played. Sound effects are excellent. I could do without the punk soundtrack, since I never got into that. I prefer the soundtrack on THPS2. But that's okay, since I just load Outkast into my stereo and continue to bust some sick moves. Controls are near-perfect, and get even moreso once you master the moves. I'm going to be playing this one for a while.
Some grown-ups might like this game!

The original Tony Hawk Pro Skater was a surprise hit for Activision when it was originally released for the Playstation because it was unlike any other skating game before it. Other games with skateboarding like Sony's Xtreme series (2Xtreme, 3Xtreme, etc...) incorporated skateboarding, but the results were lackluster at best. What made Tony Hawk go above and beyond your average extreme sports games was that there was an added realism incorporated with easy to pull moves and tricks that rounded out a real fun package. This game was revolutionary at its time, and it spawned two sequels that topped the original, and a host of imitators that still can't match the original Tony Hawk. The soundtrack is worth noting as well; Primus, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies, and the Suicide Machines lend some tracks making the game even more enjoyable. If you have never played the original Tony Hawk, but have played the sequels, chances are you won't like this, but no matter how you look at it, the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater is a piece of modern video game history.

this one started it all. there's no "create skaters" or anything and that's okay. it's still fun. people probably don't play this anymore, but it's just as good as pro-skater 2 and 3. plus, 2 and 3's music wasn't bad, but most of the songs were rap. the thing is "PUNKS like to SKATEBOARD and SKATERS listen to PUNK". All the songs on here are punk, no rap. It features Dead Kennedy's, Primus, Goldfinger, Vandals, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. It's a game that you can't stop playing. It's not too complicated. and if you don't have any punk cd's but you wanna throw a punk party, just put this game on turn the volume up!
