I live in a arpartment and can not have pets.
I have always wanted a puppy to care for and play with.
Thats why as soon as I read the description of this game I freaked and had to have it. A half a week later
(when it came out)I bought it. I didn't know what to
expect from this game. I got my DS and opened it up.
15 minutes later after getting my dog and thinking of
a name to name it I pressed the microphone button and said his name Casper. After a few trys he got the hang of it.
I was so impressed by the graphics, It made me think that
I actually got a real dog.I found out my friend sam also got it and introduced my dog to hers (by putting it in bark mode).
They got along great. I love bark mode!
I love taking my dog for walks, hes so cute!
I don't know what people are talking about when they
say this game is horribly boring! I was hooked and still am!
The washing feature is really awesome.
You need to get this game if you've been thinking about it!

This game is one of the BEST games I have ever played! If you get a Nintendo DS, this is the 1st game to get! Buy it! You'll see how fun it is to take care of a "virtual" dog! These pups are adorable! My first dog that I got was a Yorkshire Terrier named Nemo. There are 2 secret dogs that you can unlock in the games.
Dalmatian: When on a walk, you may find a "Fire Hat." When you go back to the kennel, you'll find that you can buy a Dalmatian.
Jack Russel Terrier: When on a walk, you may find a "Jack Russel Book." When you go back to the kennel, you'll find that you can buy a Jack Russel Terrier.
Hope this helped!

My nine year old daughter wanted this game for Christmas. I was a bit hesitant at first, but gave in and got it as a present for her. Along with a real chihuahua. The game has actually helped her in caring for Pixie, our new pet. I have not played the game myself, but apparently it takes you through all sorts of scenarios, all of which my daughter incorporates into caring for her real dog! This game is a big winner.
Who let the dogs out?

I picked up a copy of the Chihuahua version a few weeks ago. I own two dogs-- a Sheltie and Husky-- who both have different personalities and strong and weak points. My Husky will do the agility trail, but my Sheltie is too afraid of the hurdles to jump. It's a very relaxing game, good for people coming home from school, work, or people who are just stressed out, but it gets a bit boring.
Pros--
3D graphics-- clear, crisp, and quite realistic. It makes the puppies look cute and furry like real ones.
Lots of items-- For people who like their dogs to look dainty, there's a crown or the flower collar. For rough people there's the platinum collar. Or for anyone who just likes the old fasioned collar there are tons of different colors to match your personality.
Many kinds of dogs-- There is usually two or more colors of dog per breed. There are also different personalities making dogs easier or harder to train. There is a base number of 6 breeds of dogs per game. As you gain more trainer points (by walking, winning contests, spending time with your dog or dogs etc.) you unlock different breeds. You can also find two special items that unlock different breeds too.
Auto shut off-- After you save, you have the choice of continuing the game or shutting off the system.
Touch screen-- This game is nice and interactive. You can pet your dog(s), throw frisbies, and toss tennis balls. Most of the game is using the touch screen.
Your dogs won't die-- They won't get old either. :)
Cons--
Mic-- You have to use the exact same pitch you taught the dog the trick in. I can't remember what tone I used, so I can't enter obedieance trials or anything. So you could spend hours teaching your dog a hard trick and then have a cold the next day and have to wait to enter an obediance trial until you get better and have your voice back to normal.
You can only walk every 30 mins.-- If you don't cheat it'll take forever to find the Fire Man's hat or the Jack Russle Terrier books.
Trash-- Yes, on walks inconsiderate people have left bags of trash on the street so keep an eye on your dog so it doesn't get sick.
Donate-- I don't like this feature just like I don't like the reset button on Tamagotchis. They may be virtual, but buttons like this can be missleading. You can't donate a real dog or reset a real cat just because you don't like it.
You can only enter three contests a day.
Not really a Con, but not a Pro either
If you have more than one dog it takes up that many foods or drinks to get them content (example: if you own two dogs, you use two foods when you feed them).
Dogs get hungry even when the DS is off
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is trying to teach their children responsibility. You can turn it off, which you can't do to real pets, it won't die and there's a donate/reset button. All of those things bring down the responsibility teaching level of this game. I recommend it instead to people who can't have dogs.

This is why nintendo rules and SONY is just a sad pretender to the nintendo throne. I wish XBOX would make a handheld and bury PSP once and for all. Now on to the review.
For those of you who can't afford a real dog, aren't allowed to have a real dog, or just want to try this first before having a real dog, than this will be a treat for you. Be warned, this is not a game of action. It is a simulation, and a great one at that. It's like having all the responsibilites of owning a dog without the actual possibility of anything going wrong.
The dogs are very lifelike for a video game, they are fun to interact with, and their is so much to unlock. Some of you may be asking yourself, which version should I buy? Their are three (actually soon to be 4) available, what do I chose?
You don't need to buy all three versions, all of them have ALL of the dogs, you just have to unlcok them. The game you pick up is based on what breeds you want available from the start. Personaly, I prefer chihuahuas being my favorite dogs, although it's hard to argue with the cuteness of a sausage dog!
You train them, feed them, play with them, take them for a walk, eventually place them into dog show to unlock more stuff. You can meet up with other dogs online to unlock even more stuff.
All in all i would highly recomend this game to anyone with a passing interest in having a dog. I even heard that nintendo is supposed to be making a cats game too, an update of the gameboy advance one I guess, hopefull it's similar to this style of play. So go out there and enjoy your pup!
One last thing, I heartfelt plea to amazon...it's time to put an end to something. This whole "kids review" thing on amazon has to stop. This is by far the stupidest idea anyone ever had. I'm sick and tired of trying to get info and / or a review of a product and having to sift endlessly through infantile dribble.
Most all of it has nothing at all to do with the products and is just wasting everyones time. For example, the same review pops up about 10 times talking about "get the PSP version of nintendogs" ...HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! their is never going to be a PSP version of nintendogs because it's MADE BY NINTENDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please put a stop to these idiotic ramblings. Please discontinue this waste of mine and every other shoppers time. Can we start a petition or something people? I know i'm not the only one!
AMAZON PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT A STOP TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!

I got pulled into the hype and bought this game on a whim. The novelty of this game is great, you get to pick a dog, teach it tricks, feed it, take it out for walks, enter it into contests and buy things for it. But after you do that for about 10 minutes the game gets a little boring becaues it gets kind of routine.
The graphics are pretty great, making the dogs look lovable and cute. The AI of the game is pretty good, the dogs act realistically to affection and their movements are life-like. The best part of the game is being able to teach your dog tricks, that it will do based on a voice recognition system. It is a little annoying working with it if the dog doesn't understand you because you speak in varying tones at times. Your dog can also only learn 3 or 4 tricks per day based on its personality so once that's done, the game gets a bit dry as you're left with a dog and don't really know what to do with it.
Overall, the game IS fun and addicting (your dog grows on you and you DO want to teach it tricks and make it happy). I am happy with my purchase, to say the least.
Don't pass this offer up!

This is a great game for all ages. Seriously, there is no way you could pass by this game on the web and not want it. I'll have to say there is a great selection of dogs. It's really easy to play too. I absolutely love it . I play it all the time, day and night. If you love small dogs, like me, you will love it. And all the dogs on the back of the box are not all of them. As your trainer points go up in the game you earn more dogs to buy. You can have up to 8 dogs, 5 at the hotel, and 3 at your house. It's just like having a real dog. (BUY IT!!!!!!!!!)

I LOOOOVE Nintendogs. I have this one and currently have two dogs. Max, a cavalier, and a chihuahua, Paris. Their SOOO cute and fun! Max is in the open class at the aligity trials. This game is great! The graphics are amazing and the dogs are so realistic. I realzed though that the icons of the dogs are uglier then the dogs themselves. It's wierd...besides taht this game is great. It's one of the best games for DS, even though theres only a few. I love nintendogs and are hoping to get the Labrador version soon.
Best handheld game ever made!

Nintendogs is one of the best handheld games ever, in my opinion. Of course, the only other handheld I've ever had was a gameboy SP. Figures. :P
Yesterday I went to the mall and traded in my Gameboy SP; 3 out of the 4 games I had for it; and 2 PS2 games I never play anymore. Altogether I got $85 for it. It kinda stinked, seeing as I payed $85 dollars for the gameboy alone. But I knew what I wanted, a DS. So I got my DS for another $45 dollars, and also got my nintendogs game! It was a tough decision picking out between the two versions they had (Chihuahua and Lab) I got the chihuahua one. I came home and started off with my boxer named Ralphie. Soon after, I accidently deleted him. So I made my new dog, the one I decided I would keep forever. I chose a black and white Cavalier king charles spaniel, named Lucky. It's day two of the game and he knows 7 tricks already, I think I'm doing pretty good. :) Anyway, enough with my life story, here's my pros/cons:
Pros:
1)EXCELLENT graphics + sound.
2)Stuff your dog can actually wear, and look funky in. xD
3)Interact with other dogs owned by real people.
4)Send items to friends who are nearby and have a DS.
5)If someone comes over and they have a DS with a different version of nintendogs (i.e. You have Lab, I have chihuahua)
You can actually gain that breed of dog to create at the kennel!
Cons:
1) Nice breed selection, but I'm kinda dissapointed they didn't have a Coton De Tulear or Bichon frise. :(
2)The farthest away you can be to interact with another dog is only 65 feet! I can't beleve it :'(
