The game Splinter Cell was made by Tom Clancy. Here is how the story line goes.
March 5, 2005, two C.I.A. agents were monitoring the situation in the Rouge state but mysteriously disappeared. Governments feared this situation and activated Splinter Cell. You are Sam Fisher the best operative in the Splinter Cell data. You alone have the fifth freedom to kill, steal, infiltrate, interrogate, and spy. You must stop the international terrorist from starting a World War III.
Throughout the missions you need to pick locks, kill, and also not get captured but there are rooms that are only activated by eye scanners, passwords, and security cards. But Sam's gadgets can't open everything, but some NSF terrorists can. You first have to get them to cooperate with you.
The missions get harder and more intense. You can complete the missions in multiple ways depending on your style of play. If you can handle the downside, this game is very fun. I recommend this game to everyone who likes realistic action and stealth games. I give this game two thumbs up.
Better than most of the games I've played

Alright. I just got done with this game and I can say it was worth my time.
Like any game, it definitly had it's share of pro's and con's. Pro's- Smooth gameplay. I've never seen any other games that offer as much realism in the charecters movements and options for movement.
Realism. With the exception of having to shoot some guys three or more times, there isn't a lot of things like space-age weapons and super jumps. You find yourself thinking that a lot of the game's content could be done in real life.
Sound. This is one of the areas the game excels in. Things sound exactly as it should, from glass breaking to creaky wooden floors, the effex team did awesome.
Now onto the cons- They definitly need to work on shot accuracy. I swear, my crosshairs with the standard pistol will be perfectly on a target and I'll still miss. I think this is why you have to shoot some guys three times in the head before they die. Sometimes during high action parts I'll shoot a guy five times and only two of the shots will register as hits.
I think my biggest pet peeve is when you kill or knock someone out, you can't take they're weapon. Sorry, but if I knock an armed enemy out, I'm not going to let them revive with an armed weapon.
Then there's the split jump. While it looks cool, you rarely get to use it. Perhaps I flew through the areas it can be used. But most of the areas the halls are either too wide, or the ceiling is too low for the jump to be performed.
There's also the one thing that makes me grind me teeth. Armored lights. How stupid is that? I'm sorry, but a high-powered rifle should be able to get through the grating on a light bulb.
Lastly would be replay value. I just finished it, and the only difference I've noticed after beating the game is that you can choose your level. Big deal. Give me unlimited ammo, a new weapon, something to make me want to play again.
Ultimately though, it did take me quite a while to play, and entertained the whole time with only a little frustration. Definitly a rarity in most games. Most of all, it was fun. I actually looked forward to playing this game, and that's what makes a game great to me. I only wish they'd give me a reason to want to play it again.
Perhaps that's what the sequel will be for. Perhaps all the glitches and frustrations are there on purpose only to be ironed out in the sequel.
A must-RENT for all gamers

This is a really great game but it should be rented, not bought. I finished it a day before it was due. The ability to hide and interrorgate people that you grab from behind is itself worth renting. This game has a relativly low frustration level but it is still challenging and fun. You get some cool gadgets like cameras that you can shoot into a room, have them make a noise so the guard will come to it, and get knocked out by the gas that comes from the camera. It also has cool things you can do like rappel down a wall and listen to things via laser microphone. The graphics are amazing and so is the sound. Unfortuanatly though, it doesn't have much replay value if any. You only have two guns during the game and you can't pick up the ammo or guns from you're dead enemies. Also some of the moves like the split jump may look cool, but isn't used in the actual game. The awesome heat vision goggles aren't nearly used enough in the game. My final statement is that the sniping is so ... and messed up becaue you can't hold the gun steady so its always waving around
Takes Some Getting Used To, But Really Good! (Honest Review)

I have to say, I was really skeptical about this series. I mean, a whole game based on stealth? But hey, I figured I would give it a shot. Needless to say I was not dissapointed. Rather, I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
Right off the bat, this game takes some getting used to. Not just the controls, but the way in which the game works. I myself am so used to running into a room and shooting everything in sight. This game simply does not allow this kind of gameplay. You must sneak around, do things quietly, and be sure not sound too many alarms or your mission is aborted and you lose. Some missions you can kill your enemies, other times you must simply knock them out. Either way, you are constantly concealing you actions by hiding bodies and keeping to the shadows.
At first, I found this gameplay to be very frustrating. But after about 5 hours of playing, I started to get the "hang" of it. From that point on, I became addicted. There are so many replayability options, so many different ways to complete a mission, that the game never loses its fun. The gadgets and weapons that are available are also very cool and fun to use. You may need to look at a walkthrough now and then, but other than that the game is basically trial and error.
I loved this game so much that I decided to buy the second game in the series, Pandora Tomorrow. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the dated graphics and the need for improvement in other areas. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a different, yet extremely enjoyable game, look no further. Splinter Cell is a great game.
Not very fun, but cool on story mode!

Well, Tom Clancy first made the books, now video games? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Halo Combat Evolved & Rainbow six were a knock-out at the time. This game was cool on spying... really good on spying

I first bought this game in 2003. Splinter Cell takes a lot of practice to really master.
Fortunately, they give you a training mission as part of the game to help give you an idea of what you're up against. After this training, you're brought right into the game.
The stealth part takes a while to get used to. I have a hard time sneaking past guards, so I usually grab them and knock them out, or shoot them. There are only a few parts where I'm actually capable of sneaking past.
Aside from that part, the game is very addictive. The graphics are very realistic, and the story is relevant as ever today. While stories are not usually what people look for in video games, the story in Splinter Cell is very well written.
There are a few missions that I really don't like, such as mission 4. You are limited on ammo, which can become frustrating. However, the second Splinter Cell game is more frustrating, as you are detected if you so much as punch a guard.
The one thing that frustrates me most are the guard dogs on the later levels. Fortunately, there are only 2 guard dogs that I can think of.
Despite a few frustrating parts, the game play can be fun. Sneaking up on people in the shadows is cool, and taking on terrorists without them realizing it is another cool aspect.
I strongly recommend Splinter Cell. I don't recommend the second one as much, for it is nearly unplayable in certain parts.
This game is challenging, but worth it in the end.
Wonderful game but saving can be a pain

This game is great, I normaly hate stealth games but this one keeps me tuned in to play again and again untill everything is acomplished. The way to do things may be a bit linear but first time around you will have fun for sure. Repeating at the last checkpoint can be a pain and I wish they had a better save feature so that you dont have to repeat every lockpick, rekill every guy, or redo any lockpicks. Perhaps I'm too used to playing games on the computer but I'm sure many agrees with me. The game uses sound effects to help your playing style and doesn't just add to the enviroment. For instance, you'll be hinted that there is a camera by whirling sounds or sounds of talking near bad guys. The bad guys here dont just walk around just to shoot you, some have personalities and talk to each other. It is quite fun to listen in on a conversation before sneaking up to them. You may want to have a sharp or big TV to read the little text that the game has.

I have to say we need more games like Metal Gear and Splinter Cell more. I will now list the pros first. One is the graphics are simply fantastic. Even though Xbox's version is graphically superior, you'd still be hard-pressed not to say the game looks amazing. The lighting is superb and character models are excellent. Sound is done right also. Very little music, but voice acting is great, especially Fisher, who can be quite funny at times. Controls are tight, though you have to get used to it because it's a whole different ball game than Metal Gear. It's also a pretty challenging game. If I had one complaint about this game, it'd be that you can't open doors when you're hiding a body. But that's my only nitpick. If I had to chose between Metal Gear and Splinter Cell, I'd probably pick both if I had the chance(Luckily, I own both. HAHA!). Here's to hoping that Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory will rock just as hard. Semper Fi, Carry on!
