Splinter Cell for the PS2 is an unbelievable video game. You are Sam Fisher and you are inserted to find 2 missing agents and there's only one catch; you cannot be seen. Ubi Soft really outdid themselves this time. People often compare this to MGS (I love MGS, and this totally kicks its arse) and they can be wrong in some places. The gadgets in this are sweet. And the moves! Do a split in between a small hallway and aim from the top, shoot, and hide the body?!? AMAZING!! I do reccomend this game to bought and not rented. I am currently writing this only on rental play, and there's no way you can possibly beat this game in 7 days. So go buy this game, and be ready for some serious stealh movments and missions.

Firstly, let me congratulate the team at UbiSoft for migrating this game to the PS2 platform.
The game is ground-breaking in terms of the smoothness in the gameplay and the "real-life" graphics display.
From the onset, the game creates an aura of pulpable tension and excitement that totally absorbs the player throughout each mission.
Additionally, the Artificial Intelligence in the enemy is unpredictable enough to keep you guessing and on-your-toes (finger-tips) as you try to achieve the stated objectives of each mission.
The choice of weapons is very apt for a "spy-genre" game and the backround ambience is spine chilling. I suggest that you set the music volume to 0 as this will eliminate the predictability of being sensed by the enemy (each time the enemy spot you a "tune" is played).
Throughout the game you feel totally drawn into the environment and atmosphere, creating a sense of suspense and anticipation.
This game is well-worth a purchase!!
outstanding!

I did have little expectations on this game, since it is accused of having lost the non-linear gameplay that was present on the xbox, but let me tell you splinter cell rocks!
The game shares some similarities to MGS but not many, maybe the story in MGS is more complex and the splinter cell's is more straightforward, the graphics are at my opinion superior on MGS(PS2) but the "stealth" feeling that chills your spine is very, very superior on splinter cell, really maybe some levels are not too much big, but you will feel that they are because most of the time you will be crouching and hiding,trying and failing, trying and succeding, in short all I wan to say is that what makes this game shines is its unparalelled gameplay, you will surely enjoy every step and trick that sam fisher(the main character) takes! the game is really worth its price.

I never played Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons of Liberty, so I can't compare that to this.But I can tell you if Splinter Cell is a good game.Well...It is! Splinter Cell starts off with a long cutscene.In October of 2004,the CIA sends out to agents,Robert Blaustein and Alice Madison,to Georgia to find out about a terrorist group.It turns out the whole Russian military is their.They get murderedand and loose contact with the CIA. Then the game starts.Sam Fisher(of the NSA's Third Eschelon) is being trained for the mission ahead:to find agents Robert Blaustein and Alice Madison.Great storyline. Now for the gameplay.You can climb ladders,pipes,and fences.You can crouch.You can jump and split jump.(the coolest thing about this game)You can shimny across wires and pipelines.You can peek around corners and even shoot while doing it.You can capture and knockout people.You can interagate people.The targeting your gun shots system in Splinter Cell is good.Even though you have a gun,Stealth will always be your best weapon. Now for the view.The camera is terrific.You can move it while moving Sam.The nightvision is cool,giving you sight in black and white in the dark.The game is a third person view,(like Metal Gear Solid)but when you are shooting you are in a first person view. The graphics max out the Playstation 2's power.The graphics may not be as good as the Xbox version,but they are still amazing.The shadows are ultra realistic. The character voices are great,with Mike Ironside being Sam's voice.The noices such as the noise of walking are great.They are your enemy when playing the game. Buy Splinter Cell.It is also on Xbox,PC Gamecube,Gameboy Advance and cell phones.
Awesome, but 1 flaw

This game is so sick. The covert thing is totally trick. The only problem is that the AI is too good. I mean, every shot hits you and that makes it too unrealistic. Otherwise, it's worth the buy! PEACE!
Way Better than MGS2

I feel sorry for all you die hard MGS2 fans because this easily excells in all areas. For example there is great variety in the levels and its actually a challenging game. There are so many different weapons and the controls are easy to get right off the bat. I love how you here different music when a guard is suspious of you. The only bad part is it takes many shot to kill an enemy almost unrealalisticly. Overall I give this game:
Sound=10/10
Gameplay=11/10 AWESOME!!
Graphics=10/10 Incredible
Addictibility=10/10

Best game I've played in a long time. It takes a little bit of time to get used to the camera, but after that it will amaze you. One thing that I was disapointed in was the lack of a variety of guns. It is based on all stealth. Silenced guns and sniper rifle are main source of defence. It includes night vision, thermal vision and a lot of gadgets that go on your sniper. If you like war but hate the frontline you'll love this game.
Great Game,

I didn't think I would see a game beat Metal Gear Sold in espionage style action, but this game has done it. The use of shadows to hide your character (Sam Fischer) really adds a more realistic touch when you're trying to be covert in the game. Like Metal Gear you must stay silent and out of enemy sight, but Splinter Cell seems to pull it off much better. Graphics and sounds are excellent, I give the edge in voice acting to Metal Gear Solid though. Comparing the voice acting in general I rate it high among most games. I do have a few little complaints about the game though. Although voice acting is pretty good, during the movie sequences the lips just don't seem to match up well with the words. It's not a big deal, but something that I noticed. It took me a few hours to get used to having to move my own camera around. Alot of my complaints about new 3D games are the camera doesn't seem to be at the correct angle when you want it. Splinter Cell allows you to move the camera however you want, there is never any auto camera movement done for you. It takes getting used to, but once it becomes almost natural to move the camera for yourself it's a great addition to the game. Maybe Ubi Soft should have added an option for manual or auto camera? Overall great game, it's a must for gamers who like espionage style gameplay like Metal Gear Solid and Tenchu.

This is possibly, the best steath game so far in console gaming. It is much more realistic than any other game out there and is really worth the money you invest in it. The character that you play has many limits; he is not a gung-ho, kill 20 guys at once type of commando type. If you play it like that, you will not even get past the first stage. Instead you must have patience by hiding in the shadows, crawling very slowly to get to the next room, sneak up on the enemies one by one, avoid cameras, conserve bullets and hide the evidence within the shadows- the way a one man assassin/operative works. Although this may sound boring but once you play it and get a hang of it, it induces sweaty palms. The story is compelling in a way that it can be true in real life political events. The A.I. in the game is pretty smart and you must do everything almost perfect and by the book if you dont want to be spotted. Along with the story and gameplay, the ingame graphics are top notch and is probably using the capabilities of the PS2 to the max. My only gripe about the game is that they should've added more levels, as the addictiveness of this game will make you want more. Once you beat the game, there is little replay value. Also, the character that you play should be carrying a knife in his limited arsenal, so that you can use it if you run out of ammo. Overall, I recommend this purchase for your PS2 library if your a person who loves stealth games, have a good attention span, and loves a challenge. Other steath games i can recommend is Tenchu 3: wrath of heaven but it is not as realistic as Splinter Cell.
