500 people were on last night duking it out. This is the most immersive WW2 game I've played. Combine games like Hidden & Dangerous, Panzer Elite, Warbirds or Aces High into one game and you're getting close.

I decided to play as a trooper for the Axis powers. I started my way to Flavion. I hopped on a passing tank with another trooper and we began riding into battle. As we neared Flavion, a Spitfire appeared overhead. Fearing the Spit would strafe us, we both hopped off and ran for the bushes. After resting up from sprinting (my stamina was low) I began running from bush to bush, constantly scanning the sky for the passing Spit. I called for air support and soon Bf109's were circling overhead and the Spit was no longer a threat.

The lead tanks had reached Flavion and were attacking the defenses. I called on the tanks for a sitrep and they gave the all clear. I again rushed from bush to bush approaching the town and resting when needed. All of a sudden tracers started flying around me. I dove to the ground and crawled behind a bush. I edged out around the bush and began taking shots at my attacker. After several shots I was hit and my blood pressure started dropping. I yelled (out loud), "Clot! Clot!" but the wound was fatal. (With a non fatal wound your wound will clot up and you'll be able to continue, albeit at reduced efficiency and with a red tinge to the screen if it's really bad).

I pulled away from the screen and calmed down. My heart was racing, and I was sweating. What a trip!

There's a 60MB patch to download, and the game still has some bugs (which is the only reason it gets a 4 and not a 5), but expect more patches soon.

This is one great simulation!

It is purely the greatest. But, before you buy this game keep in mind it is not free when you play over the internet. That means that is (10) aditional dollars every month after you buy the game itself. So, I would still call it a good bet because I think that it is worth it. I have been waiting a long time and I will not let this chance pass me by.

Game gets better and better

What many of these reviews don't tell you is that WWIIOnline is an evolving game. The developers are constantly releasing patches with new vehicles/airplanes/ships, enhanced infantry capabilities, supply systems, towns, visual/sound effects, etc. The game's release in June of 2001 was a bomb. Things didn't work as promised. However, the game has recovered and it's getting better and better. I love this game. I have been playing since August of 2001 and I have NEVER played a game for this long. In fact, the developer's plans will have me hooked for a very long time. In summary, I've been playing WWIIOnline for 18 months now and it's still THE GAME for me.

Best game ever designed, and it keeps getting better!

I've been playing WWIIOL pre-day 1 release (Over 2 years), and I've pretty much played every game out there so this review comes from an experienced gamer.
WWIIOL is a realistic, historically accurate game portraying World War II in a massive seamless arena (exponentially larger than SWG). The viewing distance is the largest ever conceived in a game (GO HERE to see size comparison to other MMOGs: http://www.freewebs.com/nrakjar/maps.html). Everything in-game is modeled to be historically accurate - Flight Models (planes), Damage Models (Not hit point based but based upon the accurate ballistics used on what type of armor, etc), weapons, ballistics, etc.

The best feature of the game is it's always under continuous development with each massive patch - No other game has changed as much as wwiiol in such a little time. New systems such as ordnance server, new weapons, vehicles, improvements on gameplay, Better graphics / sounds, UI, etc, etc. Plus it's all for FREE, no expansion packs like Planetside (been out less than a year and they have minor upgrade to game and they want you to pay for it!).

Yes this game stunk when it first was released.
However, with version 1.6 almost ready fro release, this game is 1000 times better than it's original release. The game play is awesome, the scope and depth of the battle field is incredible and the community is very helpful and welcoming.

It DOES require a lot of horsepower from your pc. The guy who left the review regarding framerate issues, just needs more ram. I have 384 ram on a P3 933 on a standard DSL connection and I experience very little lag. Version 1.6 is currently being tested for release and the memory improvements that they have made make it so that you'll be fine on 256 ram.

With this Game, You are part of the development process!

Some people think that's a bad thing, but I don't. Most games are done when you buy them, and if you don't like something, or something isn't working, well, that's too bad. With WWII Online, customer input is a key element of the development process, and in fact, is a determiner of many of the development team's efforts.

I bought this game in early July, and since that time, it's become much more stable, and has improved in a number of ways beyond counting.

Yes, you will need to add more RAM to your PC, but that's not a bad thing, and it will contribute much to your machine's performance when handling many other games and programs. For not much more than ... you can upgrade from 128K to 512K, giving you good performance in this game. Hey, I'm only at 384K and it runs at a sufficient level for me to handle all but flying aircraft, and that's on a PIII 450!

If you always wanted to know what being in WWII was like, right now this game can give you a glimmer of that, and for ... down and ... a month, that's not too shabby.

The game did have a bad launch, but it is updated often, and the last patch is UNREAL. Imagine if you will. You spawn as infantry and hop aboard an Opel. The truck is full and other Opels are loading up. There are Halftracks pulling 88's and Paks you're in a real convoy. As you near the battle there are tanks flanking the enemy city on multiple sides. There are Stuka's bombing the enemy from the sky. The air is controlled by your 109's. In the river your boats are moving in with troops. All this and every one of them is controled by another person. You can drive a tank and your friend can operate the main gun. You fly the plane and your buddy's the tail gunner, or how about the Bombadeer? Visit the game's web page and look at some of the screen shots and videos. This game ROCKS!

Okay game I guess...........

You know, i bought this game because i heard both good and bad reviews. You can say i was curious about the game. So, one night, i went to Best Buy and bought this game, knowing that i didn't have a good graphic and it said it needed decent one. When i installed it and runned the program, it took at least 5 minutes to get to the main menu. Then it took another 5 minutes to get in the game. However, the gameplay was alright. I mean the maps are huge. There at least 900 people on a server but doesn't laggy. Even though there was 900 people on the server, i couldn't find the enemy because the bases are pretty far apart. Also, when you drive in any vechiles, you can't get out of them. Plus, when you ran out of ammo, you have to respawn, which takes a long time. In my opinion, i think you should wait on this game when new patches come out in the near future which make it more fun because i think the game needs more improvement. Also, why do i have to pay $... a month for playing online. i think they shouldn't do that.................

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth........

I picked up this game 4 days after it came out. Took it home installed it, registered for an account and tried to play. "Can not connect to server" I looked harder to find there is already an almost 70 meg patch for me to sit and download. I must admit, I was shocked to find such a large patch for a game that had been released 4 days before. I download it, install it and try to play...."can not connect to server". At this point I jump on the forums and I find out that the servers don't work, nor have they ever worked for most. I wait 3 more days to play this game. Finally, after to many problems to put here I got connected to the server! No joke, I sat at the loading screen for almost 15 mins before the game started. This happened everytime I loaded it. They claim it's due to memory but I have 512megs of ram. My FPS (frames per second) were about 3 or 4 when they should had been 50 to 100. Do you have any idea how hard it is to play a MMORPG with those frames? I didn't pay bucks on a vid card for this! So, now I've been sitting around waiting for a 2 meg patch they have been claiming will fix all of our problems. The patch came out today and nothing was fixed as far as I can tell. This game is NOT FINISHED! IT DOES_NOT INCLUDE ALL THINGS LISTED ON THE BOX. I read somewhere the company making this game is new. This would be their first game and they have been working on it for about 2 years. I read on their forums that they ran out of money and needed to start selling the game in order to make money to finish it. IT DOES NOT SAY THIS ON THE BOX! They did however stop the clock on the 30-day trial. If you buy this game you are spending money to be a beta tester and that just isn't right. Wait till it gets fixed and is playable, say around 2003.

Oh, I almost forgot. As customers we have been trying to get answers from CRS/PlayNet about whats going on with this game. The only real way to contact them (and get an answer) is to use the forums. Get this, they started deleting any post they didn't agree with. We are paying customers and they delete our requests for help and answers right in front of our eyes. BUYER BEWARE!
