I can't recommend this game to anyone. Why? Poor framerate and hellish lag on anything but a VERY well specced PC. (1Ghz Ath, Cable Modem, 512MB ram minimum) Patience is required as you'll need a hefty 80MB of patches.

I gotta admit its a great concept but poorly executed. Check out Operation Flashpoint instead!

This game has serious problems with playability. The dissappointing thing is, while playing the offline mode you can see the potential of the game. The biggest complaint is the slow frame rate and incredible lag which, for most users, makes the game unplayable. I would recommend waiting to buy this game for a few months until the kinks are worked out. I feel it was released too early, but hopefully the game will improve.

This is not about fragging, this is a game for the mature gamer, it is for the player that don't play games for the eyecandy but for the pure gameplay.

Imagine picking a mission and then jump on the truck at sunrise, close in on the front hearing the sounds of cannons and machineguns fill the air, see the burning tanks as you get to the battle, enter the town on foot your, while enemy tanks, planes and infantry try to stop you, take the town and get ready for the counterattack as the sun sets, you really feel that you are part of something huge.

It is also nice to play a game where the development team cares.

I would give WWIIOnline 5 stars, but there still are some problems, some people can't get the game to run and some features are still missing, but it is the first of the next generation online game and it is going to be though to beat.

Personal glory is funded in teamwork.

500 people were on last night duking it out. This is the most immersive WW2 game I've played. Combine games like Hidden & Dangerous, Panzer Elite, Warbirds or Aces High into one game and you're getting close.

I decided to play as a trooper for the Axis powers. I started my way to Flavion. I hopped on a passing tank with another trooper and we began riding into battle. As we neared Flavion, a Spitfire appeared overhead. Fearing the Spit would strafe us, we both hopped off and ran for the bushes. After resting up from sprinting (my stamina was low) I began running from bush to bush, constantly scanning the sky for the passing Spit. I called for air support and soon Bf109's were circling overhead and the Spit was no longer a threat.

The lead tanks had reached Flavion and were attacking the defenses. I called on the tanks for a sitrep and they gave the all clear. I again rushed from bush to bush approaching the town and resting when needed. All of a sudden tracers started flying around me. I dove to the ground and crawled behind a bush. I edged out around the bush and began taking shots at my attacker. After several shots I was hit and my blood pressure started dropping. I yelled (out loud), "Clot! Clot!" but the wound was fatal. (With a non fatal wound your wound will clot up and you'll be able to continue, albeit at reduced efficiency and with a red tinge to the screen if it's really bad).

I pulled away from the screen and calmed down. My heart was racing, and I was sweating. What a trip!

There's a 60MB patch to download, and the game still has some bugs (which is the only reason it gets a 4 and not a 5), but expect more patches soon.

This is one great simulation!

Awesome

It is purely the greatest. But, before you buy this game keep in mind it is not free when you play over the internet. That means that is (10) aditional dollars every month after you buy the game itself. So, I would still call it a good bet because I think that it is worth it. I have been waiting a long time and I will not let this chance pass me by.

What many of these reviews don't tell you is that WWIIOnline is an evolving game. The developers are constantly releasing patches with new vehicles/airplanes/ships, enhanced infantry capabilities, supply systems, towns, visual/sound effects, etc. The game's release in June of 2001 was a bomb. Things didn't work as promised. However, the game has recovered and it's getting better and better. I love this game. I have been playing since August of 2001 and I have NEVER played a game for this long. In fact, the developer's plans will have me hooked for a very long time. In summary, I've been playing WWIIOnline for 18 months now and it's still THE GAME for me.

Best game ever designed, and it keeps getting better!

I've been playing WWIIOL pre-day 1 release (Over 2 years), and I've pretty much played every game out there so this review comes from an experienced gamer.
WWIIOL is a realistic, historically accurate game portraying World War II in a massive seamless arena (exponentially larger than SWG). The viewing distance is the largest ever conceived in a game (GO HERE to see size comparison to other MMOGs: http://www.freewebs.com/nrakjar/maps.html). Everything in-game is modeled to be historically accurate - Flight Models (planes), Damage Models (Not hit point based but based upon the accurate ballistics used on what type of armor, etc), weapons, ballistics, etc.

The best feature of the game is it's always under continuous development with each massive patch - No other game has changed as much as wwiiol in such a little time. New systems such as ordnance server, new weapons, vehicles, improvements on gameplay, Better graphics / sounds, UI, etc, etc. Plus it's all for FREE, no expansion packs like Planetside (been out less than a year and they have minor upgrade to game and they want you to pay for it!).

NOTE: Pics on Amazon's site are EXTREMELY OLD

Yes this game stunk when it first was released.
However, with version 1.6 almost ready fro release, this game is 1000 times better than it's original release. The game play is awesome, the scope and depth of the battle field is incredible and the community is very helpful and welcoming.

It DOES require a lot of horsepower from your pc. The guy who left the review regarding framerate issues, just needs more ram. I have 384 ram on a P3 933 on a standard DSL connection and I experience very little lag. Version 1.6 is currently being tested for release and the memory improvements that they have made make it so that you'll be fine on 256 ram.
