While it will of course draw comparisions with GTA, The Getaway is fantastic in it's own right. Not a kids' game by any stretch of the imagination, the game immerses its' players into London in a way no game has done for any other city. Besides the obvious locations of the landmarks; stores and shops are also in their proper locations on the map!

The gameplay itself is easily figured out, and is very realistic. Unlike GTA - if someone shoots at you while you're in a car - you will get hit and lose health. The cut scenes really do make you feel like you're in a Guy Ritchie movie - well, his good ones anyway...

I highly recommend this game.

The getaway has to be by far one of the best games i have played on the ps2 console... It's challenging enough to keep you playing but not so complex that you hate it... Awesome duel story lines and great graphics..
The only thing that lacks is the angles and movement sometimes... But wow what a game.. If you like hitman and the latest gta's you will love this.... Don't pass this by..

This is not a game but a simulation and is the most accurate representation of a real place made yet. There have been calls for it to banned. As a Londoner, this game is so real that most of the buildings such as shops, pubs etc are exactly where they really are (and not just the important landmarks). The only problem with Oxford Street is that in the game you can drive down it and are not stuck behind double decker buses and taxis. Some detail has been left out such as side streets but the Soho area in particular is very accurate.

This game has caused a lot of controversy in the UK because of its realism and has been rated as 18 (video games are rated the same way as films so it is illegal to sell 18 games to under 18s). There is a lot of swearing and probably what gangsters use (in a Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels way).Getaway uses images of London streets to make it almost completely true to life. A Sony spokesman said: "SO19 officers came into our Soho offices and gave a talk on tactics police use. They also advised on weapons training."

British Telecom has asked for the BT van to be removed from the game and the Metro nespaper recently reported that the latest version even has the road markings for the new congestion charge which came into force in February 2003.

Some of the movie bits can be tedious after a while and cannot be skipped but the brilliance of this game is that it does have shoot em up and fast drving bits but it is a game of strategy as well.

If you master this game you will be able to find your way around London easily....

this game is great and there is nothing really else to say abut it exept that it is great and it is a lot better than Grand Theft Auto 3(gta3)and Grand Theft Auto Vice City(gtavicecity).

When I saw the screen shots and read reviews of the Getaway, I immediately went out to buy the game. But after an Hour of playing I realized the Getaway was merely ENGLANDS VERSION OF GRAND THEFT AUTO. The only thing that makes it different then GTA is you have more control of your character. You have the ability to roll take hostages and sneak up on enemies and break their neck. The game is also more realistic and is much bigger but besides that there is no difference between GTA. The whole point is hijacking, killing, and completing missions.

Really fun and Great game!

the good.......tons of cool cars and storylines
the bad.......only 24 levels
and the ugly.......YOU CAN'T SKIP THE REALLY REALLY LONG STORYLINES!

this game is sweet right over hra realistic and fun u are mark hammond trying to find ur kid that got stolen right in front of u but u didnt do anything u battle to save ur child in a bunch of action packed missions that are really awesome and cool

Now did they make a movie or a game. This is a good games but the cut scenes are long and there are lots . The playing is good. Also this is the excact samething as GTA 3 and VC the developers copied GTA and took the idea.

This game is really amazing and to me, It beats GTA:3. They said this game is more than just a movie and more than just a game. It's true! They had done a best job for 3 years than GTA Series. I never stop playing it.

This game is so gangsta!! Had me on the edge of my seat trying to complete the missions. It's so addictive that I finished the game in a little over a week!! I say buy this game
