I was pumped to play this game and unlike others did not equate it to either of the recent GTA's. It is totally different and I expected that. The graphics are good but it just isn't a fun game if you are expecting something non-linear. The first time through the game you have to stay on mission or the mission will restart. There is no life meter and no measure of how many bullets your weapon has. The gameplay is rediculously sluggish and when you hit things with your car the physics aren't true to life in the least. It just isn't wild like I thought it would be and found myself struggling to stay inerested in the game enough to beat it. Replay value is terrible. I am glad that I didn't buy this game but instead borrowed it from a friend. Don't waste your time, I like quality games and you won't find a whole lot of it here. It is trying to be too much at some points and just drops clusters of unnecessary "f-bombs". Why does the media harp all over every other mature rated game except for this one?

If you want to be in an underworld environment get GTA:VC (Praise) and get an English guy to sit behind smoking a cigar saying "Markie Boy" "Good job my son" "Want some afternoon tea?" "jolly good gov'ner" "where's the gaffer?" "you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" " three lions on the shirt" "1966". The guy you play is called Mark and he runs stuck in like an alabama tick, he cant shoot, he fires blanks and so his wife is dead, either by a Bullet or boredom, we dont know. The guys out for revenge but mid game he ends up teaming up with the woman involved with killing his wife, talk about an idiot. Dugh!
Basically Driver meets GTA meets a Army men 3D game with an element of "cockney slang" Why could'nt it of been staged in God-bless it these United States.
Warning!! Do NOT get this game

When something is based on the legendary GTA series, you automatically expect nothing but the highest quality of car stealing game. However, The Getaway missed the mark entirely. First, let me explain the good stuff. The game is based in a huge segment of london. You could drive for hours and not see the end of it. Also, there are many real life cars to steal in the game. You can see(and steal) lexuses, jaguars, and land rovers. Finally, the police AI is somewhat decent. Steal a car out of sight of the cops and they won't recognize you anymore just like real life. As always, you can just start shooting random innocent people or cops at any time you wish.
Now for the bad stuff. The first and most obvious problem with the game is the controls. After just a few seconds, you'll be throwing your controller down and screaming all kinds of curse words at the game. These terrible controls persist throughout the game. Worse yet, there are no customizable controls, which is not a bad thing if the controller is layed out properly, but no such luck with this game. Also, you can't shoot out of a car when driving, look behind you, or even change views in any mode. The only way to tell someone is chasing you is to stop and turn around and hope the aweful camera will switch to a view behind you before your adversary is not too close to get you. Another thing is that the missions are insanely complicated and difficult. You'll die several times before you complete a mission. And getting to those missions is a pain in itself. With no map or guide arrows, you'll spend most of your time just tring to find the place your supposed to blow up, that is if you can get there at all. The cars are so weak, after just a few minor accidents, you'll have to get out of car and steal another one. Your characters aim is so terrible, you'll miss bad guys at point blank range. That's pretty bad, considering you're supposed to be a hardened criminal. Better yet, there are no in game display windows. You don't know how much ammo, health and time you have left on a mission. This can lead to terrible complications, like charging into a gunfight to find out you need to reload and getting blasted to pieces.
These downsides far outway the good stuff in this game. This game has been hyped up beyond belief, but thats all it is, hype. The developers spent all their money designing london and licensing the cars for the game. Rent this one first, don't buy it straight out.
Overrated - Get Vice City

Before I played this game I thought it was going to be great. Driving around in a real city in real cars, how could that [be bad]? Then I rented it. I agree, it has amazing graphics, much better then GTA Vice City. The cars look fantastic and there handling is great. But once you get past the eye candy you realize that this game isn't that good. Actually it kind of [is bad]. For one thing it is frustrating as [...]. Why would you play a game that makes you want to pick up your ps2 and throw it across the room? And four guns? Not to mention that all you can carry is your glocks and something else. I kind of like the abscense of any health bars or ammo displays, but you can only carry small amounts of ammunition. You heal yourself by leaning against a wall, which is unique, but a pain when your in the middle of a shootout and you need some health quick. Yes the city is really London, but after while you realize that all you can do is drive around. No interaction at all. And you're always on a mission. At least on Vice City you can fool around when you want to. Although the cars look and handle great, they are all ungodly slow and sound the same. Vice City: rob stores? fly helicopters? carry an enough weapons to wipe out a small army? YES. Getaway: NO. This game is just a grand theft auto knockoff. THERE IS A REAON SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE THE GTA SERIES!!!!

To be called the GTA killer is a tall order and that title got me and many other gamers excited. The game developers knew they were going against the mighty GTA series so why didnt they do a better job? This game couldve been the GTA killer if it was done better. Team soho brags about the exact mapping of London, but moving from point A to point B is so tedious and boring. Why didnt they make the controls exactly like the GTA games, they already ripped off GTAs gameplay concept so why didnt they go the whole nine yards and rip off their control scheme as well? They didnt even allow you to customize your own controls which wouldve been great since the default controls sucked. The characters you control move at a snails pace which makes this game even more monotomous. On top of all this apathy the frame rate doesnt even seem like the typical 60 frames per second. The coolest part of the game is the exact mapping of london and since I will probably never get to go to London its cool to be able to drive around in an exact replica.

All I can say is stop compairing this game to Grand Theft Auto Vice City. They are both two good but diffrent games. The Getaway is more of a movie game.It has realy good cut sence. The driving is more realistic than other games. Plus it has a good plot. If you haven't tryed this game out, your missing out.
Awesome!

This game is great! It compares to Grand Theft Auto, but less shooting and more driving. This is definetely worth the money.
