My name is BigDave and I am a FPS fanantic. I have been hooked since Doom and usually try every one that comes out. The reason I mention this is so you know that when it comes to FPS I know of what I speak.
I have to say with out a doubt this is the best FPS I have played. The graphics are really good and the weapons are cool and realistic. The story line and the animations are top notch. Where this game really shines is in it's sense of purpose. The missions are really exciting and you feel apart of the game.
I do not lie when I say that I can give this game my highest recommendation. If you like PFS you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. There are some great ones out there like RTCW and AvsP2 but this one shines above them. Buy it and play the hell out of it!

Medal of Honor was designed to be as real as it could be with the help of special consultant Capt. Dale Dye. My friends, the mission was accomplished with exceptional detail to attention. You will have to employ strategy, a bit of luck, and the intestinal fortitude to withstand the Nazi Regime! It's the little things like gun recoil, sounds of mortars hitting in the distance, and low flying planes bombing around while your ducking under the bullets of a marksman sniper. The musical score is better than most movie scores you will hear and bar none to any other game score. The only comparable movie score is Saving Private Ryan. I have played Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint, and Castle Wolfenstein. While I like those games as well, Medal of Honor is the most realistic feeling of all four. This game will not disappoint even the novice gamer. The only game to remind us every time we turn it on that World War 2 was ugly and gruesome, yet things like Honor, Code, and Loyalty are the price at which we (America) have earned freedom. So enlist soon, and join the greatest crusade of your life.
Good game, but not great

I was really excited about this game. The prospect of a realistic WWII first person shooter definitely caught my attention. The graphics are great, the sound is phenominal, and the game is hard (in my opinion anyway). I disagree with the comments on the multiplayer. I have spent many hours at LAN parties playing Quake III, Unreal Tournament, and Halo to name a few, and I am eager to play this game with my friends on a network.
There are deathmatch, team and objective based categories. For objective based, you can choose to play the D-Day invasion, infiltrate a German factory to blow up a rocket, blow up a bridge or make your way through a grave yard to dismantle German artillery. The level of detail is astounding, but I wish that there would be more interactive vehicles. (The only vehicle that you can actually drive is a Tiger tank). Also, Germans can fire around corners, drop to their stomachs to fire and pick up your grenades and hurl them back at you. You, however, can do none of these. Also, the Germans know where you are before you even see them, day or night. Their snipers rarely miss, even from a great distance. I think there should be a bit more stealth in the game, but oh well, it is still a lot of fun to play.
The missions are varried (though there are only 6 official missions with 20-30 submissions in between). The game draws heavily from Saving Private Ryan, from D-Day to the defense of a bridge from the advancing German army, but I think this enhances the excitement of the game. I would have liked to see some elements of Enemy at the Gates here, but that could easily be done in a mod or a patch = )
I only buy a game once in awhile when I think it is going to be a great game. This is one of them (ok, so I lied a bit in my title-that's just based on the minor problems i have already mentioned). Enjoy
One of the best

Because the players move fairly realistically (moving about the speed and tempo of a man with 50+ lbs of gear on, army boots, and whatever weapon he is holding...one of the big draws for this game for me) UT players will take some time to adjust to this game, but once you do it is worth it. The sound effects are just incredible. You can actually use them to help you play (listen for the shot, or them sneaking up on you. Walk on the soft ground instead of running on the concrete to help hide your approach, etc...). It really sucks you in, and makes you feel like you were there. Tramping and skulking though ruined war torn buildings, looking for the enemy, crouching under the fallen debris, and then "SWISH!" an allied sniper bullet out of no where takes your head off and you jump 3 feet out of your chair. Multiplayer is the best, but single player isn't bad. Textures are realistically beautiful too. One of the greats of all time, and I'm not easy to impress when it comes to computer games. I just can't wait for the level expansion pack to come out.
A very good first person shooter for all fans

Hands down, this is an excellent game. Very good gameplay, graphics are not too bad, and the missions are well layed out.
The main advantage to this game is the amazing gameplay. If you're looking for pure graphics don't bother. But for those who are looking for a great, fun game, then this is the one for you. Single player has a variety of missions form infiltrating a sub to making it across Omaha Beach. Eveen the weapons are included in the great parts of this game. These include the M-1 rifle, Thomphson sub-machine gun, Brown Atomatic Rifle, hand-grenades, and the bazooka. Every weapon has it's advantages and disadvantages. The M-1 has good accuracy, a very long range, and a quick re-load time. But it is semi-automati. The thompson has a thirty-round magazine, quick repation, and is nice and light. But it has very little range and has little power. THe BAR is very powerful, has a long range, and is atoumatic, but is very heavy and has only a 20 round magazine.
Multiplayer is one of the best parts of Hedal of honor. Using Gamespy you can play different types of games. I play multiplayer a lot myself. You can also play on the Axis side and use the axis guns.
There are some downsides to Medal of Honor, but are not too bad. The graphics are not great unless you have a top of the line computer. Yes, there is heavily scripted AI. For example, in one level there is a truck full of soliders that rides up near you. Shoot all you want, but you can't kill them untill they get out of the truck. Fortunatley, this is the worst and only instince where it has a lot of effect. Most of the time when there are guys on your side, they have a health meter like you.
For the most part this is an amazing game and I think it thourghly deserves 5 stars
Solo game rocks, but multiplayer falls VERY short....

I rarely have the patience to finish the solo missions in a game, but this was the exception. All the acclaim the game has received is deserved for this aspect of the game.
I, however, prefer network play. Human opponents are much more fun. And this is what the game falls short in. In solo play, if you ducked out and fired your Tommy gun, there was a smooth, in control responsive feel to it. In net play, the rounds fire off erractically, in an unconsistent manner. Despite having a fantastic internet connection, I can't get a ping under 100 and while running around in game is fine, when you fire it's like your ping is more like 500-600. The response just isn't there.
For a game based on the Q3 engine, I expected reliable netplay. I don't have the response issues with Q3, UT or HalfLife that I do with MoH. Unfortunately, these problems have yet to be addressed by EA, and given their history of minimal product support after release, I doubt they ever will make this the killer netplay game it could have been with some decent coding. Sadly, this one issue with it pretty much kills the fun of playing it for me so I passed on purchasing the expansion.
I rated this a 3, but if you split it up, I'd rate it as follows:
Single Player: 5
Exciting, stunning, smooth play. Although I think everyone's tired of the virtually impossible to live through Overlord maps in WW2 games....
Multiplayer: 2
While no map stands out as incredible, none of them are truly horrible. Some are good, some you want to end sooner than planned. The big problem here is the lack of smooth play response on high end PCs and network connections. Maybe it's better on a Celeron 400 with a 33.6k dialup, but I doubt it.
A mediocre WW2 game

Sure, its more realistic than many of its FPS competitors, but that doesn't make is a great game. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault takes much of its story from Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan", and yet it fails to make a lasting impression or truly engage the player. There are a few flaws that really hinder MOH's gameplay, first of which, movement is much too slow. I realize that your character is supposedly carrying a plethora of supplies (which isn't very realistic anyway), but even so, running is cumbersome and frustrating, especially when trying to escape sniper fire. Also, the game is heavily scripted, which is sometimes lame, such as when droves and droves of enemies appear out of nowhere. This makes much of the gameplay somewhat repetitive, especially without any cool gore effects. Also, in several maps, there are snipers in every open window and rooftop, and some times they are even hidden behind trees--in a position in which they can see (and fire at) you, but you cannot see them. On several occasions, I found myself frustrated enough by the gameplay to actually shut the game off in the middle of combat and not come back for several days. Also, despite EA's use of the wonderful Quake 3 engine, the player models and textures are much worse than similar titles (namely Return to Caslte Wolfenstein). Humans look very cartoonish, and movement effects are also somewhat robotic, and strange. All in all, MOHAA is a decent game, and it does have its share of good sequences, namely Omaha Beach and any sequence when you're gunning from a moving vehicle, but these good times don't outweigh the repetitive and frustrating parts. I'd recommend investing your money in a more entertaining, better looking, and more fantastical Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or for multiplayer, Battlefield 1942.

I had heard a lot of great things about this game before buying it so I was pretty excited to get to it. However, I quickly became disillusioned with the game. First, lets talk about the pros:
1) Decent graphics but nothing great.
2) Good sound.
3) Well written mission briefings and clear mission objectives.
4) Good variety in the missions. (This is the main reason I didn't quit before finishing)
5) Mostly bug free.
Ok, now the cons:
1) Mediocre AI. The fact that the AI was lacking caused the designers to use cheating to provide an effective challenge.
2) The Nazi's cheat. Personally, I think cheating is just a clutch so I will never give a game good marks when they use it. Here's an example: AI opponents sticking guns over crates or around corners and shooting. This, in and of itself, is not cheating but the fact that they are just as accurate when using this cheese is. They should have significant penalties when doing this. Mobs can also see you through tree foliage and bushes and will hit you when you can't see them at all.
3) Most of the missions except in the beginning are impossible to complete without dying UNLESS you already know the maps and what's coming. I don't mind this kind of thing on occassion but it's very annoying when it's like this almost every mission. I want to live or die based on my skills not based on whether I played through the game before.
In short, this game doesn't offer anything new to the genre. of MoH.
An atmospheric, intense, epic adventure

I was skeptical of buying MOH:AA at first, but after reading various comments of others and formal reviews, I decided to take it on. Boy was I glad I did!
Allied Assault presents some of the most realistic feeling, immersive war-time experiences ever incorporated into a video game. While the game itself is not realistic as far as damage and equipment carrying goes, etc.., the sound, graphics, missions and locations are incredibly well detailed and produced. The atmosphere is very immersive and the attention to detail regarding 1940's WWII locales is tremendously recreated.
The Normandy Beach mission, straight out of "Saving Private Ryan," provides one of the most memorable PC gaming moments ever. Your mouth will remain open as you dodge explosions, watch your men die and fall around you as you approach the beach and run for cover from the German fortifications.
The cut scenes are done a-la "Half Life" where you are able to control your character's point of view while they are running, a very good choice.
Most importantly MOH:AA provides a lot of varied missions, preventing it from getting monotonous, lots of action and intense gun fights, and using natural elements as obstacles make for a realistic experience despite the run-n-gun style of the game. At one point I was driving a tank blowing up buildings full of snipers, in another I was running through German countryside using tomb stones as cover from a nest of Nazi's holed up in a bombed-out church (see the SP demo).
The game is a bit short in duration, but has a significant replayability factor in that you can go back and play on 3 different difficulty settings, and pick and choose which mission you would like to play over again. Every time you complete a mission, it will be done slightly differently depending on your weapon(s) of choice, strategy, and ability to shoot accurately.
The multiplayer mode has serious potential, but has yet to reach it. The ability to play in co-op mode through the single player missions with others would be a great addition to the game, and a MOD is already available which does just that, covering the infamous Normandy Beach Invasion (D-Day).
Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, is certainly one of the best First Person Shooters ever made, and if you enjoy games like No One Lives Forever, you'll love Allied Assault as well, an instant classic from EA Games and 2015 (ID Software). You will need a Pentium III 600mhz processor or better, and a 64MB video card of high quality to run the game at respectable rates, keep in mind, in my opinion. The game's requirements are indeed quite high, even at lower detail levels.
I play a lot of different PC video games, RPG, Adventure, Sports and FPS genres, and Medal Of Honor is definitely a game I can recommend without hesistation.
A great game, but could be better

I am a big fan of WWII stuff and also any type of 1st person shooter game. So naturally when MOH:AA came out, I had to get it.
At the beginning of the game, I was dissapointed a bit by the 3D graphics. The figures were a little blocky and sometimes I would see people's feet stick out of the wall and sometimes two enemy soldiers would walk through each other. The background wasn't interactive. Except for doors, you cound't open anything else in the house. In Max Payne one can usually open anything and use everything (toilets, mic, etc) but not in this game. The AI wasn't that smart as I thought it would be. You can still wait around the corner and kill many guys running in.
However, by the middle of the game the missions got so interesting and I was having too much fun to care about the graphics. Being able to drive tanks, run around in little French towns, and battle with snipers is just a dream come true. Another thing I love is the sound. In the middle of the battle or inside building you can hear German being spoken. This makes the game feel much more real.
Bottom line: Get the game. The graphics isn't great but the gameplay IS great!
