Good game, but not excellent

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 4 / 12

I know that right now there is too much hype of this game, and many are saying that it is the best Wii game, but in my opinion it is just a good game.

A first person shooter, but without too much options, just using your cannon, graphics are marvelous and music great, and the use of controls is very good, but as a story is not that great. Too many repetitive things. Gets kind of boring sometimes.

Not much of replay value after you play it once.

Very educational in how the future of games will be played

I have been studying this product for a while and I have to say that this game is probably one of the best first person shooters I have ever played. Its not only because of the style of the game, but it is the controls. It all feels natural when you play on advance. Some people say they have to get use to it, but to me it all makes sense.

Graphic wise, it is definitely the best so far for the Wii, and I do say it can stand up as a next generation game. I owned Gears of War for the 360 and played it at 1080i and while Metroid isn't as good in graphics, the quality it has been put into it definitely shows. Not to mention that it does run at 60fps which is a feat that this game accomplish that some PS3 games have a problem producing. I play on my LCD TV with the official HD cables from Nintendo and believe me, it stands out beautifully. I love it when I use the visor and how I can see Samus facial reflection, definitely a work of art.

The difficulty is tough when playing on Veteran. I have saw Gamespots review mentioning that the "streamlined control makes the game too easy". I am an experienced player, and I beat Gears of War within 3 days, being a married man with kids, and I have found this game to be very tough on Veteran mode. Probably the toughest Prime of them all. What makes it tough is that in order to beat certain scenes you need to be able to go in "Hyper Mode" to beat certain characters. When you do this, it drains your life meter, so if you go overboard with it, you can be dead very fast. If you do not use it, enemies also can go into "Hyper Mode" which allows them to take major chunks off of your life, sometimes knocking off two tanks at a time if you are not careful. Believe me, if you want a tough game, play on Veteran Mode and ignore Gamespots review of it being too easy, which makes it evident that they were playing on "New".

There are some cons to this game as well. As stated in a lot of the reviews, the load time does slow things down a bit, especially when you are moving from corridor to corridor, it is by far much longer than the other primes. Also, I have had some music skip on me when when the game is loading and the Aurora Unit is trying to communicate some objectives. It goes away however when you continue to play, it is just a bit annoying to hear it though.

Also, I kind of miss the idea of having "one hit kills" by doing headshots, which in my opinion would have been a welcome addition in this game. Or at least if I can do more damage on enemies by shooting specific spots, kind of like Resident Evil 4 or Unreal Tournament.

Nevertheless, the whole infractructured of this game should be considered, even if you are not a fan, just to understand how good First Person Shooters can be on the Wii or anywhere else. Very Educational in how the future of games will be played.

A linear gamecube port, bad camera angles, but excellent controls

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 4 / 15

Nintendo has the Wii controls tight and intuitive in this bland, linear shooter. The character's pellet gun and silly puzzles make this game a yawner after the first hour. It wants to be clever by making you perform absurd tricks and moves by crouching into a ball. The camera angles can be annoying at times and the graphics are hardly stellar. Mario Galaxy and Zelda make much better use of the graphics engine on the Wii. Save your money and rent this lame game.

Stop talking

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 6 / 28

The control scheme for this game is beyond horrid, but that's not really Retro's fault since Nintendo designed the controller. You get some customizability (you'll almost definitely want to switch the jump and fire buttons immediately), but nothing really makes up for the fact that visor selection is now a multi-step process or that bringing up the map will more often than not require that you stop everything, look down at your hand, and struggle to reach that "1" button way down there at the bottom. Navigating the map is also an order of magnitude more difficult than it was in the previous Prime titles.

Visually, everything has been upgraded and the environments are very pretty--even better in 480p. Unfortunately the alienating silence of previous Metroid games has been broken by marginally talented voice actors who spoon feed you the game's flimsy back story in exposition after exposition. Sure, you still get to run around in relative peace, scanning consoles and piecing things together yourself, but that doesn't make up for the mood spoilage that all that talking brings with it. It doesn't feel like you're stranded alone on a dead world anymore, it feels like you're playing Halo or some other FPS silliness and I don't care for that personally.

And of course, they've recycled their enemies once again. They might look different and have different names, but the behaviors are all the same. How many shriekbat and puffer variations do we have to sit through before someone comes up with something new?

Overall it's a pretty good game, but it did not live up to my expectations. All those promises of perfection following each successive release date slip got my hopes up a little too high.

Bioshock, Halo, Beware!

Wow, I wish Bioshock was as good as this game, but it's definitely not. This is a beautiful game, in progressive it definitely looks as good as anything I've played on the 360, it might not look "as good" as the games I've played on PS3, but definitely rivals the 360 with graphics.I've heard some rumbles about the controls; take my word for it, they ROCK! The controller seems to challenge you in a way that only the Wiimote can. Hardcore gamers like myself are amazed! This is the game of the year, the makers of Bioshock and Halo should be starting their copiers right now, and get a pencil neck taking notes.Perfect 10/10

Same Engine, new System, old bugs

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 5

This game is almost exactly how sequels should work -- start with the "game" you have, make a few changes for a new system or because of customer feedback, and make a new story that's fun to play through.

The changes made to the Metroid Prime Metroid Prime "game" are all worthwhile -- instead of being forced to lock on to your foes, you can (and should) aim at anything you need to using the Wii Remote. If you're comfortable with that, you can even turn off the auto-aim feature of a lock. The game flows differently in a way that makes that Ship you've had since the SNES days worthwhile. And the load and save times are impressively fast, especially a simple save.

Unfortunately, some of the old bugs are still there, and not all of the new features are bug-free. Doors will still occasionally not open after you shoot them, and the "pull remote slowly away from screen" motion is either poorly explained or poorly designed.

On normal mode, the game took me about 20 hours to complete on my first run through, and there were no puzzles hard enough that I needed to consult a "walkthrough" for. I also only died twice, although I expect the bosses to be considerably harder on either the "Veteran" or "Hypermode" difficulty levels. It's a nice change of pace from the steep-curve of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

As a final note, while there's no multiplayer mode (either co-op or vs.), there is a Friend-code based "friend point" system, where you can unlock certain extras (like bumper-stickers on your ship). Although there are a few non-friend unlockables, the only ones that actually affect gameplay all require a friend to also have a Wii and this game. It's a way of forced advertising that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling, and detracts from the probably enjoyment of this game.

Prime at its best!!!

This is by far the best of the last 3 Metroid games. Not only the game play is something that you've never experienced before but the details in the game is what I really liked. Complete the logbook and get special rewards, are the things that make it better than its predecessors. It is very dinamic and there is more history involved giving a great ending to the Prime trilogy.

THE GOOD:
- The controllers work pretty good. They are a little hard to get used to, but once you do, everything else would feel awkward.
- There is more history involved! And let's say that Samus is not completely alone for these missions.
- New weapons that are fun to use, interactive controls.

THE BAD: - I hate to say it but there is still the famous "door lag" that previous games had. I really don't know how they have not fixed this problem, most of the time you try to open a door by shooting at it, it takes a couple of seconds for it to open, sometimes you have to move sideways and shoot again to make it work. I'm really tired of it.

ONE LAST THING: This game is easier to complete than its predecessors. I don't know if that is good or bad. Personally I don't like easy games, but previous Metroid games were extremely hard and annoying, so for me it's a plus. However if you like the challenge, you can always try the hard mode. This game has also some side quest that are interesting to complete.

A worthy end to an epic series

Plenty of reviews here so wont be wordy... this game is awesome and has suprisingly great replay value. I OWNED the game on normal mode or whatever it was called. Now I am playing in Hypermode difficulty and it is really challenging! Definetly worth playing through! Beautifully done.

Great game, but falls short of standards set by predecessors

My rating is based on multiple factors, all of which will be described in detail.

Controls: 5 stars

The controls are very innovative and unique. It's fun to aim the Wiimote like it's actually Samus' arm cannon; and even more fun to use the nunchuck like a lasso when using the Grapple Beam.

Graphics: 5 stars

The greaphics in this game are nothing short of amazing. It takes full advantage of the Wii's capabilities. The details, particle effects, and the like are beautiful.

Plot: 3.5 stars

For those of you that like a good storyline, Corruption might as well not even have one. These games have nothing to do with each other except for the Space Pirates, the Galactic Federation, and Dark Samus. The plot of this game itself is actually decent, but considering the fact that it has almost nothing to do with its predecessors is disappointing.

Comparatively: 3

This one falls short of its predecessors. The bosses and puzzles are MUCH better and harder in 1 and 2 than in 3. In 1, I died a few times. In 2, I died a bunch. In 3, I didn't die once. The Wii controls vastly impair your previous ability to have 4 missile types, 4 visor types, and 4 beam types all at the same time. In this one, you only get ONE of each at any given time. In addition, 2 was going in the right direction with multiplayer. This one could easily have had an improved version like that one.

Overall, 4. This game is amazing and worth the money, but don't expect it to be just like the first 2.

This is the new standard for a first person shooter.

This is a continuation of the storyline from the recent Metroid games. Many players were frustrated by the difficulty of the previous two games, and while this is a step up in difficulty you will notice it not frustrating like its predecessors because of the new control style.

This game has a lot going for it:

- Detailed environments that will make you stop and take a closer look.

- The best control and camera experience I have ever had in a game.

- You can adjust the pointer sensitivity and lock on style to meet your skill level.

The point and shoot style play, combined with flawless programming mean this game is the new standard for first person shooters. You can accurately target and shoot while jumping through the air and avoiding fire because the controls are precise and intuitive.

I have played the game through on normal mode and then on hypermode, and never once encountered a glitch or problem. It is a real masterpiece, and I recommend for any gamers over 14.
