Capcom lives for crossing their marvelous fighting creations with anyone who is willing to challenge their authority. Marvel stepped into the light yet again for this classic port originally released on Dreamcast. I feel that Capcom made the right move putting Jill Valentine into the fray, seeing as how she is the COOLEST thing in video games since Super Mario to me. Among Jill, new characters include Tron Bonne (Megaman fame), Storm (X-Men fame) and MANY MANY others. The graphics are fluid and never miss a beat, and the music makes you want to slam some heads. Even though this game is a hard gem to find, if you find it (or still own it) I suggest you hold onto it. You'll miss it if you loose it.
**Graphics-5/5. A very fluid 2-D fighter, among the sea of so many others. The background is 3-D, so it is really cool to see those to dimensions compliment each other so well. I would say the graphics are crystal clear.
**Sound-4/5. Well, the music can be really annoying when you are getting your a$$ handed to you, so when the heat picks up, you'll probably be hating the soundtrack. Hearing a fist hit a face sounds really good, though!
**Controls-5/5. About as straightfoward as a 2-D fighting game could be. You really step up and handle your stuff with these controls. Definetly an improvement over the Dreamcast version.
**Overall-10/5. This game is hot. I recommend it to anyone. It hasn't been this fun to see a fight since Kelly Ripa and Kathy Lee! If you are an avid fan of fighting games, or Marvel comics, purchase this. You will not regret it.

This game has everything you could want in a Capcom Vs. game. You start out with a roster of 26 characters, then you buy the rest in gallery mode with the points you earned from playing the game for 56 total! The best thing in the game is the comboability. Every character in the game can pull of some of the most notorious combos and Hyper Combos ever known to a CAPCOM game. Comboing and Hyper Comboing are very good ways of showing off and are great tactics to gaining the upper hand in any match in no time, plus there are 5 Hyper Combo meters as opposed to 3 in the previous games!!!
Although it's a 2D game, there are beautifuly rendered 3D backgrounds, and are greatly sized, although not as big as the 1st as you can't knock opponents into different levels of each stage. The graphics are awesome, the music takes on the style of the Jazz genre, and all in all, the game just plane RULES!!!

Pros:
Huge Barrage Of Fighters From The MARVEL and Capcom Universe!
Big 3D Backgrownds Blend In Perfectly With The 2-D Characters!
Awsome New Boss, Abyss!
Insane 3-on-3 Tag Team Battles!

Cons:
Can't play as the Awesome New Boss!
No secret levels in the stages!

Above was my Sega Dreamcast review of MVC2. It pretty much describes exactly what the PS2 version is, and every aspect of the game receives a 5.00 rating, with the following exceptions:
Gameplay: This game has more slowdown in it than the arcade release, which is sad because the arcade release had more than the Dreamcast version. When playing Abyss, it takes 3 times the amount of time to change from his first form to his second, then from his secon to his third, then from his third to his death. Another example would be slowdown when more than 4 characters are on screen, in the Dreamcast version, there was only minimal slowdown when all six were on screen. In the PS2 version you get minimal with only 4 on screen and more with 5 or 6.
Score - 4.00
Sound: I don't know about anyone else, but when playing on the 2nd player side of the screen, I don't hear a thing comming from the speakers, but when on the 1st player side, I hear sound, and only from the speaker on that side. None of my other games do this, the Dreamcast version didn't do this, why?
Score - 3.80
In all honesty though, if that doesn't bother you, then deffinetly get this game on the PS2, bacause it's going to be even harder to find this game in a couple years.
Overall score - 4.56

Capcom has, and probably almost always will be, synomous with the 2D fighting game world.

That said, I found MvC2 to be, actually, a bit of a let down, not so much because Capcom failed, but because the mechanics of the game don't allow you to fully utilize the majority of the game's characthers in higher levels of play.

First and foremost, the graphics are simply beautiful. The game is fun simply to look at, wether the players are novice or experinced. The stages are a very intresting and detailed mesh of 2D and 3D graphics, and they really come to life in the game. It adds a unique atomsphere to the game, and it's nice to see such detail payed to the enviroment of the game. The characthers, as well, are fluidly and fully animated. Capcom did the best job they could do at the time, and it really shows.

Gameplay is simple, yet flexible to become complex. You have Weak Punch-Strong Punch, Weak Kick-Strong Kick, and assists. These are all staples of the Capcom universe, save Assists, which is a feature confiend solely to the MvC series. Since the battles are one round 3v3 matches, assists essitantly allow you to call out a particular ally to do an attack at somepoint in the battle. Assists play a HUGE HUGE part in higher levels of play, becoming an almost make or break of matches. With combonations of buttons, you can switch your characthers. Obviousily, this is a wise way to conserve life. Super meters are back from the Capcom libary, not surprisingly. Air combos, as well, play a huge part of the game, as they are one of the few ways your gaurnteed to dish out major damage in this game.

These are very general assumptions of the game's mechanics. The game plays very fast and requires you full attention, as you constantly have to be aware of assists, your opponet, your lifebar, your next move, your opponet's next move, yadda, yadda...

If your looking for casual play between your friends, MvC2 is by no means boring. However, while MvC2 boasts a huge roster of characthers, the LARGE majority of them are simply there for show. Only a handful of characthers (Rouge, Magneto, Cable, Spiral..) come equipped with the tools nessicary to compete on higher, more advanced levels of play agianst experinced humans. One look at national tournment videos will show a noticeable trend between the characthers used.

Just as a random fact, MvC2 is one of the few games that the United States are the national champions in, over the Japanse and Koreans and such. I'm still not entirely sure how this happened.

One player mode can be a bit boring after a while, as it's only purpose is to get enough points to open up new characthers. This game thrives best with a couple of friends and some time to kill.

The music is upbeat and jazzy. Perhaps a bit silly and repitive at times, but as a whole, it adds to the plasticy, cartoonish enviroment that makes up the MvC2 world.

The story.. is completly non existent. There isn't one. Marvel decieded to fight Capcom.

As a whole, MvC2 is decent, but calling it the best fighting game, or even the best 2D fighter of all time, is rather misguided. Soul Calibur 2, soon to be released in the United States, is a much more stronger and logical game, albeit 3D, and in 2D fighter terms, Guilty Gear X2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Capcom vs SNK 2 are all better and more balanced games with more competent characthers and, in SFA3 and GGX2's cases, actual stories.

Tightest Fighting Game In History!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game rules!! I mean, non-stop 3-on-3 fighting, super combo finishing when all three characters come out and do their hyper combos at the same time turning it into a super combo. What more can you ask for? I was hoping someday that this game would make it to the PS2 console. I've played it before on the long forgotten Dreamcast and it was the best. I hope that you will comp this game if you like fighting games that is!!!!!

Great PS2 game, but not as good as the Dreamcast version.

This is one of the best 2D fighters out there. Lots of characters and good replay value with it's secret factor mode that lets you uncover hidden characters with value points earned during gaming. But again, it's disapointing to find out that this game is a bit short of what it was in the Dreamcast format. Yes, I did own that version as well. I noticed that the sound quality got worse. You can hardly understand what the game announcer is saying half the time. The graphics and character detail are also diminished. You'll notice that loading and stage transitions are a bit sluggish, but the actual stage gameplay is preserved.
Again, a good game. I would have given it 5 stars if it was similar to the Dreamcast version.

I gotta admit it, I'm a big fan of the Marvel arcade fighting games and the Capcom world. This is one you should get. It plays just like it does in the Arcade and hell, it'll save you some cash to have it at home.

Have Fun!

A great game for a fan of any of the capcom or marvel characters.

But the only downsides: Graphics some what pixely, not bad I gueese.
And the ending is same for each character, but why blame capcom? It would pretty dang had to make endings for each and every character.

So those problems dont really matter much.

Froget all your worries about the price and bad reviews, the game is worth it.

Fun Game

Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Hmmmm what can I say. ALOT!!! Why did it take so long to come out!!! It was worth the wait. Everything looks the way I played it in the arcade a few years ago. The game blows any fighting game I have away, even Capcom vs. SNK 2!!! Since they were moving it to PS2, it would've been awesome if they had added a few more charcters to each side. Capcom here's some ideas for MvC 3!! For Capcom's side: Vega, Zero, Evil Ryu, Shin Akuma (Capcom vs. SNK 2 version), Guy, Haggar, Yun, Yang, and Eagle. For Marvel: any Spider-Man villain, Jubilee, andanybody else. Plus make the boss have 4 forms (abyss had 3 and Onslaught had 2). If your in the need for serious fighting fix then Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is it.
