This is a great game, the only people that say this is a bad game is people who suck at video games and are pissed because they can't beat it and complane that it's to hard. The other is concerned parents that don't want their kids exposed to foul language and voilence.Naught Dog decided to go more badass with this game because of the faluire of their other game crach bandicoot.Crash was more for the kiddies so it went downhill. This game is full of action and plenty of killing car jacking and guns. The story of jak 2 picks up were jak and daxter left off.If you collected all power cells in the first one then you would know it opens a big portal.Thats were they left off.In the begining of jak 2 they open the portal and jak, daxter, samos and kiera are all sucked into the portal. They are all seperated when they come out the oter end.Turns out they are put into the future in a place called haven city.Jak is put into a prison for 2 years were he is used for dark eco expeiriments and daxter spends 2 years trying to free jak. When daxter finally finds jak he discovers that jak has gained abilitys to turn into dark jak because of the eco running through is veins.Jak then starts out to get revenge on the baron. The baron is the one who did expeiriments and if the leader of haven city.Jak finds out that monsters called metal heads are trying to take over.He also find out that haven city is a place people are staying to keep save from the metal heads. But Haven is more like a prison than a place of safety. If you break any laws you are executed and you cannot drink or sleep unless told. The civilens of Havens are treated as slaves are have no freedom.Jak joins the fight againts the metal heads and also trys to get revenge on the baron.Thats all I can let you know without spoiling the ending of the game.I recommend this game to every one 12 and up.This game is now only $20.00 so that is also anoter reason that you should get this game if you don't already have it.

FEATURES: -Guns including a shot gun type gun,a plasma bomb,a galick gun and a rifle.

-Many different hover car thats yours for the taking.

-Use a hover board and time that you want and do things like kickflip, 360, and grind.

-Huge city that you can explore at any time.

-Get inside a robot suit and do damage.

-Turn into dark jak with abiltys such as being invincible and growing twice the size.

-Huge varity of different characters.

-Play as daxter at one point in the game.

-Fun miny games

I hope this review was helpful to you and makes you want to go out and get this game.

A friend of mine works at an "unnamed game store" here. We cracked one of these open in the back and played it saturday night until about 4am. All I can say is this is the most awesome, adventure ever!!!! It's like all the cool stuff from your favorite games and then more stuff you've never seen before. The game is so beautiful to look at and the movies are like something done by those guys at Pixar. Some parts of it are really difficult, but hey, that's why it's called a game. I hope to get time tonight to play it even more. I've already got the jones for more of Jak II! Holy Cow!!!!! Get it now or you will be so regretin' it!!!

Bet it gets mixed reviews

Jak II, technically, is everything Jak and Daxter was and more. The same moves are there plus a few more. Much of the old cast is there too, minus a few players.

But the style of this sequel couldn't be more different than its namesake. First, the catchy music with the tropical drum beat is gone. It's replaced by a grating shorter music track that is ominous, depressing, and MIND NUMBINGLY REPETITIVE. The bright cartoonish landscape is gone as well. Much darker citiscapes and bleak post-apocolypse scenes replace the cheer of JAD with gloom and doom. The monsters take a similar tone. Nearly everything in the game does, in fact. Jak and Daxter was popcorn while Jak II is blood and revenge. Daxter now googles at women. 'Kick some butt' has turned to 'Kick some ass.' Guns. A ghoulish looking alter-ego Jak. And so forth.

These aren't bad things necessarily. The game is still enjoyable and easily ranks in the top PS2 games. But it's no longer a PG game. You will want to pass up this title for young children.

Game play is enjoyable and as addicting JAD. It has borrowed heavily from other games, notably Grand Theft Auto. A mini-map and mission based game play allows for car-jacking, killing civilians at random, angering and then avoiding the local authority, and the ability to upgrade weapons. Gameplay is not nearly as complex as GTA, but the influence is unmistakable.

Hover craft are offered as an easy way to navigate the city. Unfortunately, the hover craft are slow and bulky or fast and fragile. There are very few stretches of unpopulated city or straightaways. All in all, hover craft are fun for 10 minutes and tedious afterwards. Each mission promises to crisscross the city, going from A to B to A and so forth. This is one of the major gameplay flaws.

Overall a great game. I would say Jak II is a cartoonish GTA minus hookers and blood. This happens to be a good way to describe the atmosphere and the violence.

Good Ideas. Bad Ideas.

I must say, I do like this game for bringing a lot of new ideas to the platforming table, but I would have given it higher if not for the insane difficulty level. First, I have all four platforming games from Insomniac and Naughty Dog for the Plastation 2. This game is my least favorite, because as one gaming magazine succinctly put it, "the game doesn't like me." For the casual gamer, this game 's difficulty would be ranked as high as Contra: Shattered Soldier or Shinobi in some of the missions. Don't get me wrong though as my perception of the game. The graphics and the controls are fantastic. They are responsive...Even the story is fairly deep and involving. In fact, it may be argued that it is better than Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. I have other complaints regarding this game is that the city is too dark and the streets are way too crowded with cars. Overall, this game does deserve a higher rating, but this game is simply too difficult for those who want to have fun and not have a chore of a game. Second, the camera is usually fixed and does not move with the action (like Ratchet and Clank). In many, many instances, Jak will get shot off the screen by enemies, who shoot particularly well. Lastly, the autolock by Jak is a joke compared to the enemies' autolock. You have to literally move Jak into the proper angle to fire, and it only exposes himself more. It would be great if they had strafing, via Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando and an actual lock-on system. One last wish, in the next installment, please let Jak improve health-wise like his compatriot Ratchet. Maybe after boss battles or something. Anything. Overall, this game is heavily recommended for Jak and Daxter die-hard fans and "hardcore gamers." For the casual gamer (most of us, I think), it is particularly difficult in some missions.

AWESOME GAME!!!

I've been anticipating the release of this game ever since Jak & Daxter and it hasn't let me down! This game is a huge improvement on an already great Jak & Daxter. The city is absolutely amazing and the challenges are great. There is a huge variety of game play and 20+ hours into the game I've still got hours and hours left to play. Buy this game!!! You won't be disappointed!!

This game overall is quite amazing, with one very serious flaw...
The balancing.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with video game-speak, let me explain: Balancing in a game refers to the difficulty of each level, including the number of enemies, strength of enemies, etc. Typically games (espcially platformer style properties like Jak) will start off farily easy and get gradually harder until the you get to the end.
Jak 2 is not like that. It starts off difficult and gets much harder way to fast. It takes the enjoyment out of what otherwise would be a great game. very frustrating... Naughty Dog (the Developer) has been in this game for a lot of years now, and they know better. I'm returning the game to Amazon today.
If you liked Jak & Daxter, you may be very disappointed with this title.
Pros: Great GFX, nice vehicles, solid controls, some very nice gameplay enhancements
Cons: Bad Camera at times, ridiculously flawed balancing, weak story enhancements.
I would not recommend this game for younger children (under 10 or 11) for the reasons I mentioned above. I realize that some of the other reviewers mention the "darker" subject matter, which is really a joke.
I'll let parents decide whether this game is really much "darker"... besides a smattering of light foul language, there really isn't anything here that's bad, and the violence is very cartoonish.
Regardless, I highly recommend Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, and I highly recommend the original Jak & Daxter.
But this title, forget it.

Great Gameplay for Teens and Up

Jak of Jak and Daxter fame is back again. Jak has been in prison for 2 years, tortured and infused with dark powers. By the time Daxter rescues him, he's ... different ...

Where the first Jak and Daxter was about bright, cheery bouncing to gather up objects, the second Jak has an older, wiser, more cynical guy. The game begins in almost a Grand Theft Auto style, with the cops chasing you down and you carjacking whatever vehicle comes by to get around town. You drive around the streets from spot to spot, getting new missions and proving yourself.

The graphics are really good as you bounce, spring and roll your way across the various levels. Daxter has some really cool moves as he tags along with you. There are the normal hop-and-jump platform levels plus tank-chasing-you and other combinations of efforts.

The game definitely appeals to the more mature audience of the PS2. While the first Jak and Daxter was an "E for Everyone" game that was more of a Super Mario game, this one is darker and more serious. It carries a rating of "T for teen" and isn't quite suited for the pre-teen set.

There are plenty of games now for the kiddie players, so keep this one for the teen-and-up gamers. It's a more mature platform game, with themes of slums without water, torture and death. Still fun and rewarding for those teens and up who enjoy the Jak game series!

Frustrating? Yes. Compelling? Maybe. Precursor Legacy? No.

OK, I admit, I'm not a hard-core gamer. In fact, I appreciate a game that is easy to learn and yet challenging enough to keep my interest. I can't help but think that Jak II is Naughty Dog's response to criticism that JAD might have been too easy. The problem is, that was what made JAD so appealing to a lot of fair-weather gamers like myself. I'm torn between being really frustrated with the difficulty of JAK II and obsessed with wanting to make it "just a bit farther." I agree with other reviewers that the city hub is a poor design. If ND had designed a city that was worth exploring, or at least allowed the character to collect useful items, I would feel differently. As it is, I feel like I'm stuck in rush hour traffic between missions. I do think that the jet board missions are cool, but other than that, there's not much that makes me want to keep coming back to Jak II.

This game is awesome, has to be one of the best action-
platformers I have played, the open ended game play and world
provides to be both challenging and fun. I am glad they "aged"
up the title a bit, to appeal to a wider audience. Everyone
should be playing this game, exceptionally and most definitley a
step foward in the genre.
