Addictive in small doses. Incredibly annoying in large.

This game has had the same motive since the beginning. Which is to tap the square button repetitively until about 1000 soldiers fall on the floor.

But this is what makes the Dynasty Warriors games their own person and can be quite interesting. It's set in ancient China in the time of the Three Kingdoms (want a history lesson? Tough you're not getting one.). And you can start off Musou mode (the main story) with either of the Three Kingdoms Wu, Wei or Shu. (Tee hee those names sound like phonetic spelling)

Now for every level the easiest way to win is just to simply run straight through a crowd of enemies, kill them in a few button bashes, run to the leader kill him and... YAY YOU WON!!!

However if your a committed gamer like me you will get bored of this and try to play the game properly and that of course is far more enjoyable. With cut scenes and random stuff it makes the game slightly thicker. HOWEVER!!! After playing it solidly for a while YOU WILL GET ANNOYED AT THE SITE OF THIS GAME. It gets sooo repetitive that you'll put it down and play Final Fantasy all over again. Yes there are alot of characters but is that enough? Yes for a little while but it all gets boring in the end.

Buy the game, play it for a week, STOP!!!, then play it again after you had the break. Seriously playing it for too long and you will get bored.

A great game

Before I got Dynasty Warriors 4, I use to play it on my uncles' ps2. Then my grandma took me to buy my own copy of it. Now there are only two levels left for me to unlock. My favorite warrior is Lord Ling Tong because he is an awesome fighter! I love the game and I highly recommend it!

Great Game!

Koei been at it for years and it keeps getting better and better! DW game are great massive battles and armys. You can easily jump right in and start playing. Contarls are simple. Hit the enemy, knock them in the air and hit them back down. When you get stronger one blow kills and new attacks. It has everthing. Battles of open land where you and hundreds of alliles charge into the enermy and fight for ground. Or suicide stands inside castles. Fight for the wall until it gets desparte and make a final stand in the walls. Form 50 on 50, to 1,000 on 1,000, or the insane naman campaine where it's 1,000 on 100,000 literily!!!

The game follows three main family; Shu the pesants, Wu the father and kids, or the massive army of the evil Cao Cao. With other groups throwen in along the way. You fight for land and power until you find yourself the last survier aganists hundreds of enemys fighting despertly until you slowly and painfuly get slain...

There is now a DW 5 yet at $20.00 more I would stay at this one till the price drops. It's not worth just a few more levels and people.

In the game there is horses of differant colors and elephants. Along the way you can also get secret horses. You can also make your own charerters and bodygurds until you slowly rasie them to be gods. Or just use the other 42!

This game is great. T only for people becomeing one with the ground, no blood. The worst word is dam#. 10 is a good age. Lastly it's a great game!!!

This game is awesome! The problem is that out of no where it turns into slow mo! What the heck! I am a huge koei video game fan but I would say this is one of there best creations! But another problem that I have is that there only four spots where your can save your creted character and you only get to chose the general stuff! Nice music though. Also the Wu ending! A shout out to any Wu family fans notice that Sun Jian sounds like a girl when he attacks! Plus, to all you Wei,Yuan Shou,Liu Bui fans we Wu family fan will whoop you in DW! Now what Cao Cao!

The boys aren't alone anymore and its not in a good way...

It's a great game with heaps of fun and replay value though going through the same maps again and again does get a little dull, it's for someone who loves beat-em-ups or slash games.

My only problem mainly with it the sudden introduction of all these half naked chicks, including female generals, the captains and the nanman women, all disguistly barely clothed, while ALL the men ARE fully clothed. And I mean it. Koei is just trying -like every other company- to get a straight males attention while women weren't even allowed on the battlefield, so if this is so historical, why add them now? If it stayed with the sexy Bishonen like it should have this series would be alot better, maybe even if the boys got some half naked costumes but no. No chance at all.

Awesome Action That's Historically Based - A Must Buy

'Dynasty Warriors' is probably one of the very few games out there that are based on actual history. Not only is it tremendously addictive and guaranteed to keep your adrenaline pumping throughout the gameplay, it's also very thought-provoking. What would it have been like to be a soldier in China almost 2000 years ago, when you're thrown into hellish hand-to-hand combat amid the epic chaos of the overwhelming sight, smell, and sound of tens of thousands killing, screaming, and dying? This game gives you a very good about the confusion on the active battlefield, and the choice a soldier faces each second, whether to fight or retreat. Each battle happens realtime, so if you choose to run around and avoid combat, your 'team' will lose and so will you.

Becoming a hero is not easy, but it's tremendously absorbing and rewarding. Reacting to the realtime battlefield intelligence, I found my character constantly running to and fro, trying to shore up struggling units while protecting the leader. One faces tough decisions almost constantly, e.g. whether to fight from a horse to cover more areas, or focus on particular officers or the leader. I also found it difficult to tear my character away from a pitched battle to shore up my character's health. It's hard not to get emotionally attached to your fellow soliders and your leader. The importance of the collective morale is also vividly portrayed, as the scene of your team being swarmed by the enemies triggers an instinct to run away. As in real life, it requires a tremendous act of will to stay and fight when the odds are turning against you.

Overall, it's a very unique game that is crafted with tremendous care and polish. It has an emotional impact that will haunt you (in a nice, thought-provoking way) long after finishing it, and the game accomplishes that without gore and horror. If you really liked this game, I'd also recommend a great book - Steven Pressfield's 'Gates of Fire', which is guaranteed to be one of your favorites as well.

Dynasty Warriors 4 is about the three kingdoms( Wu, Shu, and Wei ) fighting against each other for china. There are also other characters that you will encounter like LuBu and Dong Zhuo. Liu Bei is the commander of the Shu forces, Cao Cao is the commander of the Wei forces, and Sun Jian is the commander of the Wu forces. You can choose to play either musou mode, free mode, versus mode, challenge mode, and you can also create your own character. There over 50 levels to play and there are secret characters and items to get. (...) This is a great strategy game that has a good storyline. The graphics are great, especially the cut scenes. I highly recommend this game. If you like this game you should read the Three Kingdoms book.

There's no better portrait of the battlefield than DW4

DW4 is a beautifully crafted masterpiece featuring the battlefield of ancient China's 3 kingdoms period. From battlefields in the rural to the walls of the city, from the plains in the north to the jungles in the south, you will fight on foot or on horseback (in the southern scenarios you can ride elephants) Unfold the story as one of the heroes from Wei, Wu or Shu and unlock more characters as you go. So far this is the best work in this genre. Only the original DW4 lets you engage in 1 on 1 VS mode with your friends. The game will be more fun if the fightings on horseback/elephant can be more colorful.
