I had high hopes for this game. Nothing but glowing reviews from every gaming mag. Fanboy raves all over the internet. So I broke down and bought it for $20.
The first thing that hits you is that the music is horrible!!! The absolute worst music ever in a videogame! The Ramones song is the one and ONLY song out of the 44 worth listening to. The rest are lame sounding, hey-I-wannabe-a-rock-band-too songs. And you can't turn them all off, unless you turn the volume off. Then there's the Announcer/DJ. He's more annoying than the musical selection.
Ok. I bought the game to crash cars. Well, crashing is fun...for a while. There doesn't seem to be the sheer audacity in crashing cars that Burnout 2 had. In that game I cringed and "ooh"ed and "ahh"ed as I played and when I watched the replays of crashes. This one seems ho-hum. It seemed more like there was a "correct" path that had to be followed to get the proper damage than Burnout 2's sheer mayhem of destruction.
Then there are the long load times. Long waits await you before every race, before every crash event, even when you win a new car. (Why won't it let me skip pass the "you've have a new car in the garage" bit?) The new cars you win generally suck. They handle like GT cars. (ever tried to steer a block of ice around an icy path?) You get the idea.
Like another review said, the AI cars seem to cheat. They always seem to be on your tail even when you think you've clearly put distance between you. It's frustrating because you never get to drive flat out with with reckless abandon while you're in the lead. A computer controlled car is instantly there if a small driving mistake or wide turn is made.
After a few races and crashes this game gets to be tedious. I play it now to unlock everything and win all the gold medals, not
for the fun of playing. It's a shame, it almost seems like a chore.
The game does look nice, however. But being a gamer since the Atari 2600 came out, I can say that better graphics does not mean a better game. There are plenty of games out there in the 8-bit gaming world that are more fun to play.
Super Overrated...

This is such a typical racing game, the reasons I hate racing games is the reason that this game has let me down big time. Why can't a racing game be made that doesn't have to cheat to win? I can't stand it when games do that. They can't make AI that can actully beat you so they make AI that cheats to make things close. I especially like the "Instant Catch", in other words when you are racing 1v1, to get that persons car, and you take him out and turbo away he will catch you within the next 10 seconds... So stupid it actually hurts. He catches you (theoretically by going twice your speed) and then BRAKES so you have a chance or something... bizzare. That and you can totally tell with this game that you are not racing 5 other cars, you are racing a team of 5 against you. This is especially evident in the GP. As the only competitor with ALWAYS get second place. If Third place is in second at the end of the map he will just explode and let Second place in. I laughed and laughed at that one. I love eliminator, the saving grace of this game. The Road Rage races are also fun, but sometimes a bit frustrating as the much toted explosions in this game are unreliable at best. I have exploded driving down the middle of a straight road before... just beacuse God hated me that race or something. The Special Event time trials are a joke. They are put in only to prolong the game (ala, you repeat over and over again until you either get lucky or you have momorized the map enough that you can do it with your eyes closed). As the rest of the game is arcade styled and can be beat within, say, 10 hours these are the only parts that are remotely difficult. The other thing that is annoying is the graphics, while they look nice they are designed to make things difficuly. You will find that in lots of parts the oncoming headlights will look exactly like the backgrounds. Well, phoey, I guess if you like these games you will like this one. I got it 'cause everyone said it was a great game for anyone, not just racing fans. *scoff*

Burnout 3 is the kind of game where it is not so...gentle. The graphics in this game are great along with the relistic parts when you crash another car. One of the bad things are they dont give you enough cars when you start out...not like burnout 2. You can play this game for a little while and then you get sick of it... and oh ya you want to know the thing that really sucks! they only give you one course in the biggining and it takes a few tries to get the next course. The crash mode is fantastic and this time they give you like powerups or *2 crash money. That is sweet! If I were you, go get that game right now.
MUST have game for any PS2 owner...

It lets you race through city streets of US, Europe and Asia. It rewards you for driving dangerously and taking risks, and at the same time giving you an extreme thrill and spectacular crashes.
I love "takedowns" which occurs when you bash into your opponent and make them crash, and earning yourself a speed boosts, "aftertouch", where u can slow motion your crash and steer your wreck and possibly get a few more takedowns and cause an enormous traffic pileup, and ofcourse the "Crash Junctions" where you try to create major damage by crashing into intersections.
Burnout 3 is a MUST have game if you own a PS2.

This game is great! It's the best crash game ever in the burnout series. Only thing i don't like is the long waits to load.
Fun 10/10
Crashing is fun. It's fun to play this game because the cars bow up, break in half and more
Sound 9/10
Music wasn't the best in this game. Of course you could turn it off, but it's better with music on.
Graphics 10/10
Graphics were great all the broken pieces everywhere clear to see.
Chrashing 10/10
Loved it.
How do you unlock the multiplayer race?

This game is defenatly the best racing game that I own, but the lack of multplayer kills me. I just want to be able to race with my friend using the two controllers in front of me is that to much to ask? Everything about this game I like except for that. If I knew how to play with my friend then I would give this game 5 stars. If you don't plan on getting this game for the multiplayer then it's awsome, but if like me you bought it for the multiplayer your going to be aggrevated like me.
P.S I'm 90% done with the single player and I still have no race modes for muli-player. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
Burnout is fun, yet it still missing something!

Maybe Burnout doesn't hit me as many other reviewer on here or maybe the fact that racing game might not be my favorite type. Regardless burnout is pretty much getting old. The crash are one of the most spectular aspect of this game, and i have to admit. Though my fav mode of this game is the race itself. In fact i absolutely found nothing in the crash mode that make it worthwhile. In fact i believe that the crash mode is just extra.
Many reviewer will probably argue with me about the crash mode, but i truly believe that burnout is more of a racing game than a crash racing game.
Now where is the cop mode or why hasn't the creator think of adding cops in this game? Is it really that hard? Seriously how can there is no cops when someone is racing 150-200mphs. Now one thing that beat other street racing games, is the sense of speed, i have never play any other game that has the burnout sense of speed. It actually seem like you are traveling 150mphs or how fast it is in reality. Do you remember playing other racing game and you are at 150mps and yet it seem like 60? well not in burnout! What burnout does, it does well, but if you want a more realistic racing game, than i would suggest grand turismo 3.
In my opinion speed is not what make a racing game great, it actually the precise turning and taking the lead right at the end. Without any cop cars, it leave me ditching this for need for speed hot pursuit 2, which i highly recommend!

Want a crash in the most spectacular way imaginable? Then the Burnout 3 is the right cure for you. If you put together unbelivable sens of speed, breath-taking crashes and damages on cars, you get the reason, vhy did I give this game five stars.
A gem.

This third installment in the series is definantly an improvement. The graphics are sharper, the speed is speedier, the sound is amazing, the fun can't be matched in any other racing game. The tracks are all original and fun to race on. The cars are awesome and the choice is endless.
