This game is great. If you like games with depth, this is your game. Hundreds of 'books' you can acually read about the game world. You can also play the game without even trying to follow the main story by just doing what you want to do. Join factions or explore the world, it is all up to you.
And in addition to a huge game world, the game comes with and editor so you can build new areas/worlds if you like.
My suggestion is that if you are going to play this game, block off your calander for about a month.
Truly excellent RPG experience

Morrowind is a superb game that is basically an entire world in just a few CDs. You customize your character, being anything from a thevious, devious Wood Elf to a barbaric, tank-like Orc. You can excel in weapons: swords, bows, throwing knives, shurikens, daggers, wakizashis, warhammers, battleaxes, maces, and clubs just to name a few. Also in armor, from the leather-like chitin to the impenetrable Daedric. Specialize in whatever skills you want, may they be Alchemy, Security, or the more physical choices of Athletics or Acrobatics (keep in mind that there are over 20 skills total.) You encounter hundreds of people, explore what would be miles of land, and with the expansions in Game of the Year Edition, even visit the wonderous capital of Mournhold or risk the deadly land of Solsthiem where the strongest enemies lurk.
One of the best facts of Morrowind is the fact that you can do nearly ANYTHING. Kill who you want. Make potions. Do whatever quests you like. Rise to the head of a guild. Make a name for yourself; become a name people feel comforted by or terrified of. For those concerned, there IS a main plot, but only the most viligant stick to it from the beginning. There are so many sidequests, it's difficult not to get distracted. There are many other groups you can join; Fighters' Guild, Mages'Guild, Thieve's Guild, The Three Great Houses, and some others.
The game is almost infinitely open-ended. There are thousands of character possibilities, since specialities can vary your character. In Morrowind, you will become part of an entire world, one of the most open games ever made. Do not miss this oppertunity, even if you aren't usually partial to Role-Playing games. This game is one of the most replayable, long, and enjoyable games that I and many others have.

As many other reviewers have told ablot the story and stuff, I want to emphasize on one thing: stealing!!! It is so fun!! Have the journey is going into peoples houses for weapons, potions, charms, and other things, and just taking them off the shelfs! Like the Orc's armor?? Manange to kill him by taunting or where no guards are around and you can keep his armor, wearing it yourself!!!!!!! That is definately my favorite part, customizing my punk Argonian.
Epic Game... Buggy though

The "Elder Scrolls of Morrwind'' is a great game. You can do nearly anything. There are over 20 skills and 24 classes. Also if none of the classes suit you, you can make your own! By the time you trek toward your first objective, which I may add, takes 20 minutes on foot. You have explored 4 tiny spaces the map. There is a main quest but nothing limits you to do it. There are over 400 side quests in Morrwind alone! When you add the expansions, there is always something to do. There are 3 great dark Elven houses, a fighter's guild, imperial legion, mages guild, and thieves' guild. Also they're a very robust community if you ever get stuck. If you ever finish everything, the Modding community can add countless more hours of game play.
My complaints are that the game is buggy, even if you get the official patches. This game is not for people with not much time on your hands. The game also has balance issues with being a mage, hand to hand, and medium armor. Overall if you have the time for it, it is great game.
How to make five hours disappear in an instant...

I'd never heard of the Elder Scroll series, until some guys at work started talking about Oblivion, and it sounded like it might be interesting. The guys know about my computer, which is old and crappy, so they recommended that I try Morrowind instead. I bought this edition and hoped it would be worth my time and money. Was it? Oh, hell yes.
My first character was kind of a waste, since I picked a character with skills that weren't suited to the way I played, but I learned a lot and started over. I admit that the beginning of the game is a little frustrating as, frankly, you suck at everything. But if you pick a combination of combat and magic skills, these things can complement each other and speed up your progress. Alchemy has to be one of the coolest things about this game. Even in the early stages, it's extremely useful. Your endurance is wussy and your running speed is snail-like? Make potions to keep from getting fatigued while you're running around. The ingredients are virtually everywhere. If you keep at it, both your alchemy and athletic abilities will improve.
I've read several reviews here, and I was amazed that so many people had a problem with one of my favorite aspects of the game. You can do whatever you want. You can be a good guy or a complete jerk. Or, just like a real person, you can be both. If you want direction, you can offer to work for a guild and run errands until you get tired of being told what to do and run off on your own again. You might even, and this was very odd, find yourself liking some of the characters you meet. One time I actually followed the main quest and worked primarily for one person. If I picked the wrong conversation topic, his comments were pretty sarcastic and cracked me right the hell up. I actually missed that guy, when he went away.
A lot of the bad guys simply attack you on sight and don't give you time to hate them, but there are a few characters who are just plain creepy. Crassius, for instance. You'll see what I mean.
I imagine that somewhere, someone's spouse is suing Bethesda Softworks for "loss of consortium," because this game is engrossing, intelligently designed(!), and more addictive than crack. It's like walking into a fantasy book and interacting with the characters, and it's hard to get tired of that. Maybe someday I'll upgrade my crappy computer and run Oblivion. But I'm in no hurry.
Large world, ultimate freedom in gameplay

I have never seen a game as open as this when it comes to being able to travel wherever you like. There are seemingly countless quests to pursue, and a lot of useful character interaction with NPC's graphics are good, and game can keep you hooked for quite a while. I really enjoy this one!
It's like Phantasy Star Online..... only it's a single player game.

Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is a really fun game. It's like an MMORPG (because of it's character creation and having to put on whatever you want on your character and, for the PC version only, making your own race weapons and areas.), but it's a single player game, so there is really no online play. Like I said before, this version (the PC version) allows you to create your own race, so you don't have to pick a default race; Your own classes, custom weapons (I don't know 100% for sure if you can make your own weapons from scratch, but you can take an existing sword copy that file of the original sword and make a new sword.), Make your own little areas in the game, and the list can go on and on. One thing about the whole creation thing is that it's for more ADVANCE COMPUTER PLAYERS who have lots of experience on computer games, so if you aren't computer crazy, don't use the Construction disc; or if you aren't ready just yet, just play the game, then play around with the program (like I did) and you will eventually find out it's easy.
Now for the actual game itself, you create your own character, do this and that to be free and then go on a bunch of crazy quests. You can either plan to destroy everything in it's path or just do what people tell you to do. The game, like I said, is like a MMORPG for single players. The world is ungodly massive and, unless you plan to spend every waking moment of your life playing this game, probably will take a long time to beat the game and every little side quest and whatever else that this game has to offer. This also includes Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, but because I bought this package and had to install it with Morrowind right away, I didn't really notice that everything on all 3 discs were in the game when I was playing it (like the little continent on the upper left hand corner of the world, from the world map, was from the Bloodmoon disc, so if I didn't install that disc, the game wouldn't have that continent).
So I really recommend this getting this game because it's really fun and If you don't like paying bills for MMORPGs (which by the way is Multiplayer Online RPGs) like me, then this is the next best thing to get that craving of MMORPG madness put to rest. If, however, you have enough requirements on your computer, then get the Oblivion game (I don't know if that has some of the things that this game has to offer like race creation). If not this game is worth every little penny you bought it for. I really would recommend that you get this version because of the Construction disc and the expansions, but if you do not have a gaming computer, then just get the Xbox version (I don't care which one it is) or If you have a Xbox 360 or a good PC, then get the 4th game Oblivion (check to see if the PC version has a construction disc or something similar that you can create your own stuff, If not get this game instead or , you know what, you just make your own decision about that because I don't have Oblivion so I can't help you compare this with that game)
Best. Game. Evar.

Honestly, this game never ends. Get it for the PC for the mods.
BTW, currently, Morrowind is still better than Oblivion.

What are you waiting for?
Build a fighter, a magician, or a thief -- or your own combination of these three types -- and explore shipwrecks, dive for pearls, make a meal out of a mud-crab, take a midnight swim downriver from the city to the sea, spear fish, free slaves, watch the sun come up from the top of a lighthouse, raid tombs for enchanted arrows and scattered gold, waterwalk upon the Sea of Ghosts, levitate to the highest mountaintops, manufacture a potion that will let you walk on water, become a paid assassin, become a vampire, trap a creature's soul or, if you'd rather, do the main quest. These are just a few of the things awaiting your character's discovery in the Elder Scrolls universe.
Best RPG game to come out thus far

I could possibly be called an RPG fanatic, as though i dont go to the shows or do some of the weirder things that most fanatics do, i HAVE played nearly all of the more well known, and some of the less known RPG titles that are out there and this one has definitly surpassed almost all of them, thats if you are including console games as well by the way.
Morrowind enwraps the mind in a entire new world with so much to explore, even someone like me, and i am no novice, have yet to see ALL that the game has to offer with the expansions out of the box. As if that isn't enough, you can also go online and look at a plathora of information, guides, mods(I love these as there are HUNDREDS of mods out there, and for those who do not yet know what a "mod" is, simply put, it is something that adds to the game, wither it be weapons, textures, quests, armor, towns, new islands, fortresses, anything you could imagine.
This is one of the few games out there that can quite litterally, NEVER end. So for the person who just likes to go through the main story line it is a great game with a great storyline behind it, and for those of you like myself who like to be enwraped into a whole new world, and have some great adventures beyond the main storyline, it is even better.
Morrowind has definitly lived up to the Elder Scrolls name and I highly recommend it.
