Holy Crap! I need help

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This game has forced me to re-evaluate the necessity of things like laundry, eating, sleeping, and everything else I should be doing instead of playing this game. I don't have the GOTY edition but am reviewing it because there is no reason why you wouldn't buy this one anyways.

First off, this game is HUGE. Don't expect you'll dump 20-30 hours into it and be done with it. I've wasted multiple weekends and weeknights in this game. I don't have the expansion packs yet either. From what I've heard you're looking at easily 100 hours of playtime, to say nothing of the expansions.

I will do the bad first:
I would have liked a better journal system, but word is the expansion pack has fixed it. Sorting by unfinished quests should have been there all along.

A major bug that I have with this game is that it likes to randomly crash to the desktop with no error messages. POOF! I have grown accustomed to pressing quicksave a lot, and thus it's not so bad. Support said to use software sound and the latest soundcard drivers. No dice. I don't even care. Still play it like it's going out of style.

The good for last:
Graphically I'd say this game is not bleeding edge, but it holds up quite well anyways. It is by no means unpleasing to look at. It's especially acceptable if you have the graphics power to raise the detail settings.

Character development here is off the scale. There are attributes for tons of skills such as alchemy, speachcraft, athletics, and many differnt types of weaponry. Leveling up is not based on just shwacking opponents. It's about increasing the attributes. This is a novel concept worth repeating.

The best feature is the freedom. You can more or less opt to do what you want and not do what you don't. You can decide to walk off anywhere and just goof off. Depending on where you walk you may get hammered early on, but you can go there anyways. You can be nice to people, or go on a wild killing spree, but there are certain people that need to stay alive to make completing the game possible.

Overall, this game is easily in my Top Ten games ever played. I'd say it's a safe bet that this franchise will see another game in the future, and I hope that it repeats the winning qualities of this one. Since this game has been around a while, the affordability factor alone makes it a must to pick up. Enjoy.

Superlative!

I'm not surprised to see all superlative reviews here. The depth of play is incredible, the graphics stunning, and the gigantic landscape map is a joy to explore. This is exactly my idea of a game that has the ability to engross you for, yes, years of exploring. And with all of the plug-in mods already available on the Net as well as the ability to make your own stuff to integate into the game with the Construction Set- well......you get the picture. Get this game.

this is the greatest at least one of the best games ever! it truly boasts 100 ways to play tons of quests and challenges not to mention tons of critters and other enemys to keep your weapon hand busy. I haven't played tribunal but its supposed to rock and blood moon is hilarous and gives you a choice save villagers or join the pack and thats no choice at all duh werewolf!

Morrowind will steal your life from you. Period. I've put a couple hundred hours into this game, and I still haven't seen everything. Sure, Oblivion has better graphics, sound, and AI. On the other hand, Oblivion's leveling system is unintuitive and frustrating. Morrowind's actually makes sense, and doesn't result in getting beaten up by goblins all the time. At high levels, you really feel a sense of accomplishment when you can lay waste to a horde of enemies without breaking a sweat.

With an engrossing plot and countless side quests, Morrowind will keep you occupied for a long, long time. Join a House, join some guilds, join a church, sign up with the Imperial Legion, whatever you want. Unfortunately, the Morag Tong just doesn't compare to Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood, but you can't have everything. Then again, you can kill some gods, which is a huge confidence-booster.

The choice is simple: buy the Game of the Year pack. You will not be disappointed. You may get fired and divorced, and lose custody of your kids, but you won't care. It's that compelling.

There's a Reason it's Game of the Year

The game landscape is HUMONGOUS and varied. The weather changes from day to day and people's opinions of you change with the events that pass and how you deal with them. It's like getting up and stepping into another world and culture (for weeks or months at a time). Between Vardenfel, Solstheim and Mournhold and all the politics, factions, quests, and various goings on it's not at all a boring place to get caught up into for a break from the daily grind. Even if you've played it before, there are all sorts of options and variations you can go back and try another way and come up with an entirely different adventure. I vastly overpaid for this game just trying to get Amazon to understand the difference between Elder Scrolls 3 and the Game of the Year Edition which is about 3 times LARGER and more involved. But I am VERY happy with my Game of the Year Edition.

Okay, so everyone's said it before. But I'm going to play parrot and say it again. This game is incredibly immersive. You forget everything else; hunger, tireness, how numb your arse is from sitting on it... everything. All you can think of is 'just one more mission! Just one!' And then it's 5am and you're wondering where the time went. A game has to be good to be that addictive, and this one certainly is. My only complaints are with the music and the grapics. I found much of the landscape drab and colourless - far too much brown, grey and khaki. It was very gloomy. A little more colour would really improve things. And I found the background music nice, but incredibly grating and repetitive. It was just the same theme playing over and over again! The music didn't even change with setting! I had to turn it off in the end and listen to a CD.
But these things are easily ignored. Morrowind is great fun to play, and has more than enough replay value to be worth the cash.

One can play this game for years. If you like exploration and if you like building a character, this is for you. It's a huge world for wandering and you can play the quest lines or just do small quests for people as you run into them. I look forward to the new one.

The Best PC game ever created? Most likely.

This game has sucked away more hours of my life than I will ever admit to someone in person. Normally, I am a very cynical person and will readily begin a review by poining out the major flaws of a particular game, but this is no ordinary game. This is nearly a masterpiece, in every sense of the word. Artistic? Yep. Flawless? Quite possibly. Innovative? Epic? Captivating? Fluid? Inspiring? Beautiful? Yes yes yes, and then some.

The fact of the matter is that this game has it all in a single, well-executed package. I have played many different characters and even felt like I was living another life during my time playing this game. The game has huge potential, and you can become any kind of fantasy adventurer you so desire with the greatest of ease. It's great seeing yourself go from slob dressed into peasant clothing to a powerful deathknight, enchantment effects and all.

The game has great replay value. The first time I played it I went through the entire story line, playing the good hero out to save the world and all. The next time I was a mad necromancer roaming the wastes, doing no quests merely dungeon-delving and tomb-robbing to increase in power. You can literally wander for real-time days in the waste lands, and find new things around every corner.

Modding is one thing that has really increased the life-expectancy of this title. It's incedible seeing the kind of things some people can do with the modding tools, given the time and talent. I, myself have a small measure of modding ability and even that was enough to make myself a balanced lich king, boasting an undead army numbering about 45.(complete with a demonic sanctuary;)

If you have any interest in RPGs, or even just fantasy themes in general, you cannot afford to miss this. I highly recommend this title.

This is the greatest RPG for the PC that I've ever played. I wouldn't call myslef a "gamer" but this game may change my mind. Morrowind exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. I was expecting somthing along the lines of a "Baldur's Gate" but what I got was something far greater. You start out as a stranger. You wake up on a ship, knowing little about your past. Your ship docks in Vvardenfell were you are given a job by the mysterious "Blades" oganization, after that your fate and path in the game is up to you. The sound and graphics are superb. Geting caught in a thunder storm a great example. You can hear the sound of the poring rain and see the lightning arch across the sky. The magic in the game is also eye candy. Different spells form different textures and colors. One of the more entertaining things to do in the game is finding new armor and weapons. The game is absolutely full of them. Mixing and matching armor with weapons will help you form your character's concept easier. Most impotantly is the value. I seriously think this game lasts forever. I've been playing it for months and have found no end in sight.Morrowind is not one of those games that end after 10 or 12 missions. Oh no, quite the contrary. You will get hours apon hours of game play out of this game. This a must have for RPG fans that are looking for something inovative and new. The "Game of the year" honors are well earned.

A Mr. Craig Clotfelter wrote a review earlier that matches my sentiments exactly.
If you can get used to the 'controls' and get by the early
slowness, this is an excellent game. I havent beaten it yet and havent played it for a month or so[ computor went down].
you can do the main quest straight on or wander around building your character up, I personally didnt start the main till I was about level 13 and even then took it slow and easy.
As you progress in the game, ar wander the area, new towns open up and I just sort of got new side quests as these areas opened up. So I am taking my time.
It is a great game .
If you buy it, and have patience, you wont regret it.
