great game, some shortfalls

overall this was the best game I have ever played, but it is not without its problems. There is an annoying bug that will cause audio to studder every so often, but it didn't affect my experience. Also some people report having issues with firewalls (particularly at universities - where they have no control over blocked ports) and getting the game to run. Great story, great graphics, great gameplay, great atmosphere, ground breaking in a number of ways, a must have for any serious FPS gamer.

The thinking man's FPS, and the best FPS ever.

First, I agree the install is a pain. But once you get past this HL2 is a fantaorgasmic treat for the senses. There are a lot of place you have to plan your strategery to get through.

If you like FPS, this is the game for you.

I cannot put into words the wonders of this game. It will draw you into the gaming genre like none other. I won't write a lengthy review like others are doing, but I will say this: if you like gaming, want to like gaming, played Half-Life, or, heck, just want to see some amazing feats of technology, buy this game. You won't regret it.

Best Game for the PC but I heard some wierd news?

Okay at first off when my father bought this game I realized that it gotten so difficult for Valve to create the game. Like when we created an account for Steam all of a sudden on friday the 26th Valve all of a sudden banned 20,000 user accounts from Steam for no reason I mean whats the deal?

Un"frikin"believable!

It's definitly the best game i've ever played. The storyline is amazing to a point that you feel as if you are the character your playing as, and the story isn't broad, to the point, or cheesy since it goes from one event to another but keeping one storyline. The graphics are just amazing, I thought some of the characters were actual people. The gameplay, just like the first half-lifes, is just hard to not stop playing because of the targets you have and the weapons that you can use. There aren't as many weapons as there were in the first ones but it's still a good list of them. You also get to use vehicles-an airboat and go-cart which are fun to use but a little unstable.
The multiplayer is also extremely fun as hell, though some of the levels aren't as fun as it should be it still is fun finding, killing, or being killed by a target.
Pros- Graphics are superb
Gampeplay hard to resist
Storyline is amazing
Good variety of weapons
Cool characters
Cons- Requires a good comp to run well
Loading screens take a while
O.K's- Multiplayer maps
Everyone in the game knows your name

Best shooter ever? No. That's still reserved for HL1

But this is an awesome sequel which is just as good as the first!

Technically it's superior but otherwise it feels like the same old game with an incredible physics engine which is so much fun to play around with online. The story itself is excellent, the gfx is consistently amazing and crisply detailed. All together this conjures up a believable world which had me at times scared out of my seat with some of the nasty new monsters. I mean this game has some NASTY realistic visceral monsters in it which look so cool. And the sounds some of them make... oh.. man.. especially when they leap towards you... really creepy.

The only problem I had with this Collector's Edition was the T-shirt. Does valve think that all their customers weigh over 250 pounds? The shirt is HUGE!

The person who wrote that "review" should be taken out back and beaten with a hose.. twice. The depth, and technology in Half Life 2 can not even begin to compare to Halo 2. Not only does the story keep you guessing through the entire game and after, but it also keeps you on the edge of your seat with it's Awesome physics technology that has been in development for about 6 years. Note: it makes a little more sence if you've played the original, which is also a fantastic game, which is regared as one of the greatest first person shooters of all time. Again, DO NOT compare this game with Halo 2. No explanation on why, just don't compare them.

first of all. ignore the so called kids review....lil kids shouldnt be playin this (note: cus he puked he probly glued his face lieterly 1 inch from screen...geez thatll make me puke) . This game in single player is awsome. I havnt gotten my cd version yet but when i played over steam it was great single play and multiplay, same with CS:S. graphics are amazing and beats down halo2's graphics for the xbox with a stick. if you liked the first game or not ull love this. Be warned: i advise getting this cd version cus sometimes if u have steam version they might screw up ur comp and steam version wont be compatiable after that....did for me... so get cd's

This game could easily take the cake as greatest one-player fps of all time: An almost epic story to rival with some of the best rpgs out there, not to mention great graphics and great gameplay devices (the gravity gun and physics engine were simply awesome) are weaved together so tightly that not one incredible aspect sticks out above the rest. HL2 shows you the future of gaming without messing with the fun element, accomplishing what I think every game should set out to do. The environments are colorful and anything but repetitive, ranging from abandoned cities gripped in urban warfare to alien-infested beaches and a terrifying ghost town that adds an almost survival-horror feel. Unfortunately, after exploring nearly every possible scenario that these devices could take the game just sort of ends after a kind of disappointing final boss (if you would even call it that). Still, it really leaves things open for HL3, which will almost certainly be gargantuan.

I had high hopes for this game. Really high hopes...I woke up early the dy it was released in order to play it first out of everyone I knew. I beat the game in 16 hours over two days. That was over a month ago, and I haven't played since. It was fun while it lasted, but there are problems I have. There is limited replayability, and CS Source is really the same as CS 1.6. A great game, but until the mods start coming out, I won't be playing it.
So,
Pros:
Amazing Graphics
Superb Physics Engine
Lots of Fun to play
Cons:
No replay value
CS source laggy and almost same as original CS
Steam is annoying, sometimes I can't play offline
