this game could be the best game ever.
its dark, sometimes very dark, but its got great graphics, very well developed story that doesnt bog you down, and intense variety at all turns. Way better than Quake 2, MOHAA, 1942, or any other game you can think of. I did play demo of doom 3 and it was not this good, similar to some parts but no way near as good.

Not "THE" Perfect Game...But It's Better Than The Rest of Today 1st Person Shooters

Select people have hated on this game for accusing the game for thinking it's perfect. Well that's true, but is that the only reason u dislike this game. Give me a perfect 1st-person shooter? Yeah i thought so. For those that have not played this game, buy it. You'll enjoy it, and don't get confused from reviews complaining about quirky AI. The AI is not perfect, but good enough to make it a wonderful experience. Not many games can balance action with a smart storyline...and Half-Life has continued to do that. No this isn't the Godsend of PC games, but it's close. Buy it, you'll enjoy it. And make sure u have a broadband connection to the internet so you'll have no other excuse to put down this game.

Can be very intense not to mention time consuming.I'm giving myself credit sayin I'm going to get through this game but every time I fire it up seems like a new can of woopa-- been dumped on me!! Tomorrow's another day..(I hope)Be playin for a long time to come without ever being bored.#1 Graphics and gravity gun the best !!Got a bad disk on first order but Amazon made good on it no problem!Thanks a bunch+++++

I remember back in the day when Half Life came out. It garnered much praise for its unique game play that was both challenging and immersive. The graphics engine was also solid for its time. And then finally its sequel came out promising better and greater things.

And Half Life 2 delivers. Its receipe for success can best be summarized by "don't fix it if it ain't broke." Graphics were completely overhauled, a physics engine was created to add realism (albiet, hyperrealism), and of a course a new plot faced Gordon Freeman. But the essence of the game is very similar to its original. Terrific! Exploration, problem solving, killing enemies, and then saving the day are all there.

I don't think Half Life 2 is as challenging as the first one, although this may be due to the age at which I played the original. Still, this game delivers intense fun, and a whole lot of it.

Just as the Freeman excells in everything he does, so does this game.

Incredible graphics! The gameplay is awesome and the attention to detail is impressive. Not to mention that after you enjoy half-life 2 a bit, you can then play counter-strike which is another great game altogether. Two awesome games for the price of one...you can't lose. Some advice on installation...if u have zonealarm firewall you may need to turn it off when first installing and at first launch of the game.

A ridiculously realistic game this is! you can literally pick up even a broken bottle, can, a pot, anything. pick up your enemy's weapon and throw it somewhere if you ammo is full, with the gravity gun, take a matress and blast it into water. even take a saw and rip your zombie enemies in half! This game has a huge amount of replay because of this and many more. if you have a graphics card 256 MB or higher, you'll be in for a treat as the water detail is some of the best ever in any game known to mankind! (well, I mean right now). The only things that makes me sad about this game is that it doesn't have the full goriness unlike the first game, where you can take a grenade and blow your enemy to pieces. And an internet connection is required (REQUIRED) because you have to set up a free steam account (the only charges are for buying games).Seriously though, get this game, I don't care if you get this version, a game of the year, whatever. make sure that your computer has the internet.

This game is simply amazing. I love the graphics and the story line, although i found the ending annoying. Ill admit that Steam is a bit annoying at times, but ive never had much trouble with it. And for you people who complain about having to download it using dial-up, stop complaining. Most of you probably waited months for it to come out, whats the problem with waiting another day for it to download. For those of you complaining about needing expensive high end computers, you dont. I play the game on a 3-4 year old dell dimension 8250 that hasnt been upgraded at all, 512mb ram and a 9700tx graphics card whose driver hasnt been updated since ive had it and i also play half life 2 on a compaq presario sr1900nx with an integrated ati radeon xpress 200. The only reason you would need a high end computer would be to play it with all the graphics options on high. I feel sorry for all you people who give this game less than 4 stars because you complain about needing high end computers and having to download it from steam.

One of the best FPS games out there!

This game punches you in the gut and then keeps kicking you while your on the ground begging for more.This is a no holds bar assault on your regular shoot em up style games.Half life 2 I thought would not impress me.But after 7 days of playing it I'm hooked.I haven't even beaten the game yet.There is alot of puzzle solving in the game unlike your regular shoot em like Area 51 where all you do is shoot aliens.Here your driving, solving and shooting things.It's much more then just a regular game the games graphics are awesome I literly get freaked out by some of the things here kind of like Resident Evil when zombies pop out only it
s worse here, it's that scary.There are very few games that I love and this is one of them.The story line is amazing.The graphics I would say are realistic the water moves like real water would, and looks as real too sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.And I'm running this game on my laptop with a nVidia graphics card.Hey it's a great game there are some system requirments, so make sure your PC meets them before you run out and buy it other wise your wasting your money.You need an internet connection first.Steam engine works fine for me.I read some reviews where steam doesn't work right.Personally I haven't experienced that it could be they have viruses in there PC that can stop the steam engine from working properly.Also you do need an internet connection.then you just need to download it which takes awhile and then authenticate it on-line first from Steam.If you can stand to wait for 30 minutes then your ready to play.Games like counter strike, Counter strike source, Day of Deafeat, and Half Life 2 Death match and so on and so fourth are great games from steam.check them out as I already own all of these games.

Every aspect of this game was great fun and very enjoyable and if you have a really good graphics card it is a "WoW" experience. Even with a dated graphics card it is good looking and still a blast!
