Simply the best FPS ever

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

Ignore the 1 or 2 star comment this game is the best ever.

Pros:
Excellent Graphics
Well thought out and original story line
Challenging and makes you think
Suspensful
Gravity Gun
And don't get me started on DOG.

Cons:
None

But it does not end here, buy episodes 1 and 2. They add to the fun.
But I REALLY, EXTREMLY RECOMMEND BUYING THE ORANGE BOX.
It includes Half Life 2 and episode 1-2, Portal(fun and challenging puzzle game), and Team Fortress 2 For only 60$!!!

Steam still sucks

Played this when it first came out and decided pay it again-dealing with Steam is preventing me from playing the game just like last time,it took days to get a response.Back in the basement with this game I will never buy a product that has anything to do with Steam

The beginning of a gaming empire

Simply great. Works on many older PCs. There are tons of associated titles and mods available. And you cannot seriously plan on playing the HL2 episodes unless you have played this game. The story alone would make a great book or movie. The game is the best and is already a classic!

A classic.

A game that all gamers should have in their library. Good story line and great graphics.

This game is one of the best things to hit the half-life series. With ramped up graphics and a solid story half-life packs twice the punch this time around. SPOILER!!!!. in this game you don't go to black mesa (although you can go back in Half-life:Source which uses the great graphics and plays through the story again.) but instead you go to a certain City 17 which is run by a "alien" race called the combine where you are on a train after the g-man put you in a stasis after the end of the original. From there you are then through security to find Barney the security guard from the original also. From the beggining you are immersed in the story and you will be on the edge of your seat. This game can even run on lower end machines with great graphics still.

Where are the monsters?

This game is HALF-LIFE -- ... so where are the monsters? Your chief enemy are the combine forces. Are they supposed to be some kind of half-life form? Otherwise I don't get it. About the only monsters left to fight are the familiar headcrabs, some new kind of fast headcrabs, and three different kinds of zombies (again, headcrabs being the ones that made them into zombies). Well, there are the sandtraps, but still... even those new monsters you will win on your side. Otherwise, no houndeyes, slaves, Gargantua, Nihilanth... lousy. You can fight armed forces in other games if you want. I expected more from Half-Life 2. MAJOR design flaw.

The game is good but I wouldn't buy it again...

...I bought it sometime ago and was annoyed to find I needed an internet connection to install it...while I finally got it back out I went through the "Steam" nonsense but found I still needed to enter the registration code which is on the pamphlet but NOT on the box and NOT on the CD...well, the pamphlet had managed to escape the box and, after spending an hour looking for it, I gave up...so I took a simpler route and went online to a "warez" site and downloaded a steam-free, code installation-free hacked copy which worked fine...I must say the the game is pretty decent -- better than "Quake" but not as good as "Far Cry"...regardless, I'm not paying money for another "steam" game.

What more can I say other than absolutely awesome!! The graphics are incredible and the story line and adventure is the best out there.
My compliments to the folks at Valve for another great piece of software!

I'll change my rating if I can ever get it to install

If you have a broadband connection, you should have no trouble installing and enjoying this game.

I have dial-up. I really don't even use the internet - I access my email at work using Outlook, which takes ten minutes. So when I buy a game that says "requires internet connection" I think it just means I need that connection to register.

No, you actually need to be connected to Valve to even INSTALL the game. That's nice and high-tech. It also sucks. I've been trying for four hours to install this game. I've been in the forums, I've been on the chat rooms. I really wish I would have read the Amazon site first - the caveats are all here, and they're all very honest.

If I can't get this work, I know I can't get my money back, and no I won't sue Valve. But I will never ever buy another game that needs the Steam platform to run. That's because... well, I can't get it work.

If you're interested, my computer is three months old, has an AMD Athlon X2 5600+ dual core processor, 3 GB RAM, and runs Vista. And no, it's not worth buying a broadband modem and paying $35/month for high-speed internet just to play a $19.99 game, no matter how many awards its won.

Amazing graphics, Excellent for multiplayer game.

Half-Life 2 is a quantum leap from its predecessors. It has all the elements of the Half-Life online universe game. The added multiplayer functionality, combined with really amazing graphics and advanced AI could bring you to greater heights of enjoyment.

It is menacingly addictive and exciting!

Play the game and you will never be the same.
