Great game, but has a few flaws

Super Mario 64 DS is probably one of the best games for the DS, but before you buy it, there are a few small problems. Read on for my review...

Graphics:
I don't actually own the N64 version, but I have seen people playing it, and compared to the DS version, the graphics for the N64 version sucks. Everything is 3D, and everything looks really good, especially for a handheld game system.

Story:
The game starts off with Princess Peach inviting Mario to the castle for some cake. Mario, along with Luigi and Wario, enter the castle. A little while later, Lakitu wakes up Yoshi and says that Mario hasn't returned yet. It turns out that Bowser stole all the Power Stars and locked everyone in the walls and paintings. Although, the storyline is kinda lame, the game is really fun.

Gameplay:
After recieving a few Power Stars, you eventually rescue Mario, Luigi, and Wario, each with their own unique abilities. There are also a bunch of Secret Courses where you can earn extra stars. The only problem is that it might be really hard to get some of the stars, but hey, isn't that what online guides are for? The makers of the game also added a bunch of touch minigames which are pretty fun, but can get kinda old after a while.

Controls:
You've probably already heard this a million times, but the one major flaw is the controls. I really think that if the DS had an analog stick, this game would be perfect. There are other control modes that use the touch screen to walk and run, but I think the control pad is the best.

Sound:
When I play games, I really like to listen to the music, and this game is no different. The tunes are very Mario like (obviously) and can be very fun to listen to. Also the voices aren't as annoying as the ones on the N64 version.

Overall, this game is great. Even though the controls aren't that great, you get used to it after a while, and the game becomes really fun. Buy it!!

Great Nintendo 64 Remake!!

I liked this game. It was very fun.

Pros:

1. Better graphics than the N64
2. Can play as three other characters besides Mario (Luigi, Yoshi, Wario)
3. Extra levels
4. Extra Stars to collect
5. Minigames!!
6. Multiplayer mode
7. Sound
8. Controls
9. Characters can talk
10. Same courses from the original

Cons:

1. Learning how to control your character at first
2. Gets boring at times
3. Gets frustrating at times
4. Continuously having to switch characters
5. Trying to catch the Rabbits
6. Some courses are more difficult than the N64 version (examples: The Bowser worlds, Lava Land, Tick Tock Clock, & Cool, Cool, Mountain.)
7. Fingers may get tired of continuously pushing the D-Pad to control your character
8. Some mini-games are boring and stupid
9. Mini-games take forever to unlock
10. Beating Bowser on the Nintendo DS is VERY, VERY, VERY HARD

Character Stats:

=MARIO=

Jump Power: ****
Strength: ****
Agility: ****

=LUIGI=

Jump Power: *****
Strength: ***
Agility: ***

=WARIO=

I liked this game, depsite the Cons. If you are a Mario freak, like I am, I would recommend you to buy, or at least, rent, this game. Especially if you liked the original. So, choose wisely.

Best Nintendo DS Game Ever!!

This game is even better than the original. The graphics are great for a Nintendo DS game. I've had this game for about a year and a half now, and I'm still not tired of it. I've already finished it, but it's fun to play over and over again. I love how you can play as Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi. Instead of having 120 stars to collect, you now have 150 to collect. Mario 64 DS also has minigames!! Running through the painting worlds is so much fun!!! Nintendo really went the extra mile to make this game better than the original. This game is not too easy and not too hard. Every gamer out there will find a way to enjoy this incredible game. A NINTENDO DS MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this game beats super mario sunshine any day!!

Great Graphics, not the same

Super Mario 64 is based in the oringinal Super Mario for Nintendo 64. It's not easy using the DS controls and the touch screen on this game. The Graphics are 1o* better than the oringinal and you can be Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi in addition to the oringinal. Overall, it's a great game but just isn't the same.

Amazingly fun - a reason to buy a DS

The first great game for the Nintendo DS system is Super Mario 64 DS. This combines the great fun of Super Mario with the wireless play of the DS!

I was a huge fan of Super Mario 64 when it first came out for the Nintendo 64 - the graphics and gameplay were amazingly good. It's been many years since then, but the Super Mario 64 DS version brings that same level of graphics and fun gameplay to the portable DS system.

The dual screen really shines here - you can easily keep track of your map and objective on the lower screen while running around on the top screen. The graphics and sounds are classic, being just as fresh and fun now as they were during the initial release.

Even better, the game has built in VS mode which you can play with other DS owners who don't even own the game! They download a quick applet, and instantly can run around various boards with you, seeking stars and tracking down specials.

There are additional levels and minigames in this version of Super Mario 64 which are just as much fun as the main game. You can really get absorbed in this for many, many hours, and with the wireless VS, it's fun both alone and with others.

Highly recommended!

This is a fun game. We have two. Each child has their own. I like that you can win new games, the more you play. There are several different games on this to begin with. Keeps you playing.

The best game EVER!

This game is a LOT funner then the first version for the game cube. It has really addicting mini games, the touch abilety is awesome. And you have a choice if you want to use the buttons for controlls, or the touch screen. I prefer the bottuns because then you have abilety to jump and stuff like that. They have a map at the touch screen to tell you where you are. They have a bottun (R) where if you press it then the camra will go right behind the charicter you are. Or on the touch screen (easely reacheble with your thumbs) their are errows so you do not have to go right behind the charicter, if you want to you can go beside your charicter. This game will last you a long time. You (I promise) will enjoy this game!

This game was a wonderful game. I had heard alot of people say that it wasnt that great because it was a replica of the 64 game. Although it is a remake it also contains a seris of other things such as. new mini games, new levels, more characters to play with, outstanding graphics for a handheld system, and other things. I would defiantly reccomend this game for people who had just gotten there ds its a good game. there is no vulgar content in it. its perfect for kids and adults of all ages. Its just good ole Mario and friends. So if you like Mario and Saving Peach I would recommend this game strongly. so there ye gooooo lol <:::::}----

by far this is the best ds game out yet

there are around 30 ds games out but this one is the best by far, if you are thinking about getting the ds i would definetly reccomend this game. It has incredible grafics, even better then its former version on the nintendo 64, also it has 4 different playable characters all with different abilities. I didn't use the stylus much, but you can use it to move and change camera angles. this game is a must have for the ds.
