Mario for the DS is the best game yet

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

The Mario game is excellent. It has good controls excellent gameplay and perfect graphics. It is basically the same as the N64 version but you can be 4 different characters, Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, and Wario. You need all four in the game because they all have different powers. You need certain ones to get some of the stars. Mario can fly, Wario can turn metal, Luigi can become invincable, and Yoshi can breathe fire. Also, the characters all have other small abilities. For example, Luigi can stay in the air for an extra long time following the high jump, and Yoshi can suck opponents up and spit them into other opponents and kill both in a single shot. They also offer fun mini games when you catch rabbits that you will see hoping around in the castle. Nintendo should make another Mario for the DS. I loved this game so much, it took me two weeks to beat the entire thing. However, the wireless play is not so good and they don't utilize the touch screen.

An Instant Classic

I never liked the original Super Mario 64. Back then, I'd stay as far away as possible from "Dire, Dire Docks", so I never got really far, quickly. I instead had someone else beat the game for me. However, this time, I actually took it upon myself to defeat Bowser, without any outside help.

I pwned. >D

An overview.

Storyline

Okay, we all know this. Save Princess Peach and the Toads, who are stuck inside the castle walls, blah blah blah...But now, there's a twist. This time, you start off as Yoshi, who, along with the Princess and the Toads, has to save Mario, Luigi, and Wario from certain claustraphobia. =P
Other than that, the storyline is no different from the N64 version, but it's a simple, yet effective one.
7/10

Graphics
Wow. This is only just an example of the graphics hardware that the DS has, which opens up the potential for other remakes of classic N64 games. Portable Ocarina of Time, anyone? =D
However, the graphics are a bit staticy, but it's amazing enough that they have been able to transfer the original graphics to the DS. The worlds are expansive, for the DS, and the graphics engine works well with them. Not eye-possing amazing(see the Metroid Prime: Hunters demo for something like that), but good enough for such a small system.
8/10

Music
Possibly one of my favorite parts. I love video game music, and never before have I been able to enjoy the mellow tunes of Dire, Dire Docks, or become addicted to the File Select theme. The music is heard wonderfully through the DS speakers, which can be quite loud at maximum volume, for such small things. The only thing I wish that this thing had for the music was a sound test of some sort.
10/10

Sound
Now, this, I can't really comment on. I have sold my copy of this game, so I don't remember clearly how the sound was. However, I do remember that the sounds did match, Peach's voice was unfamiliar to me, because I'm too used to how she sounds in the more recent games, and it was all heard through the little wonder-speakers.
6/10

Gameplay
Okay, I'll be honest. The stylus way of playing is horrible. It's made more for left-handed players. With right-handed players, all the buttons are reversed, so now A is right. However, the way that it plays with only using the screen for camera and map, and hte buttons to move and attack, are suprisingly easy to get the hang of. Of course, it is annoying that you had to press and button while moving to run, but I quickly got used to it. But still, they could use some work on the stylus way of playing.
7/10

Replay
Amazing, really. You only need a fraction of the stars to actually beat Bowser, but you need all 150 stars to win. However, I think they should've made a sound test for the reward when you beat it, or maybe a hard mode. *hinthint*
The minigames, however, is where the real replay comes from. They're all mildly addictive, especially Wanted, which can keep some players going for hours. Think of it as a preview version of a more 3D-like Wario Ware game, only not as insane, and the games last much longer.
8/10

Multiplayer
I, unfortunately, don't know anyone within a mile of my house that owns a Nintendo DS system, so I'm not able to give a grade for this, and shall not be counted towards the final score.
N/A

Overall
Overall, this game is a great addition to any gamer's collection. It's addictive, keeps you at it for hours, and is great, even for those who played the game before.
It gets an 8/10 overall score.

Get this game. It's worth it. Have no money? Trade in old games to a nearby Gamestop or EBGames. As for me, I'm going to go rebuy it when I get to a Gamestop, myself.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going

Yeah - Snag this game!

I played the original Mario 64 and loved it, so of course when I finally invested in a DS the cartridge I christened my system with was the NDS remake. I was prepared for a bit of disappointment because of the game's ported nature, but I was pleasantly surprised. This game has the best of both worlds. It contains most of the original game, allowing my nostalgia free reign, but has enough new features that I dont feel as though I should have blown the dust out of my '64 and saved myself $30. The minigames are excellent and although i still have my reservations about switching from character to character, being able to play as all the others is pretty cool. The graphics are excellent and although the control style is a little hard to get used to, once you have it, you'll be fine (incidently, i recommend touch screen control which comes handily with dual hand mode for us lefties). All in all, buy this game whether you played the original or not. You wont regret it (but bowser just might)

A Clasic Gone Great

Super Mario has always been one of those great games. I am really excited to now have it where ever I go. The new Mario 64 has many of the great old time favorite moments plus some awsome new features, like the ability to play as Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, and even Wario. There are some new great worlds which add a lot of fun into the game. The only negative thing that I so far see in the game, is that it takes a little while to completely grasp the games controls.

Super Mario 64 DS is an excellent port of the Nintendo 64
legendary game. The graphics, if you compare them with the
Nintendo 64 are better on the DS with more textures. The sound is the same as the Nintendo 64. Instead of 120 stars there are 150 stars and the fact that you can play as Mario, Wario, Luigi, or Yoshi makes it excellent. Camera angles and control aren't as
percise as the Nintendo 64 version but to me, if you've played the Nintendo 64 game, it will seem as addictive as if you've never played it. Control is hard with the touch screen, but I found it unusually more fun to mess around with the stylus and the bottom screen for movement than the standard button crontrols. Switching between different characters on the Nintendo DS gives the game and entirly new strategy. At first
I was spectacle about how Nintendo was going to change the way we look at Videogames, but now that I see the DS... it is clear that this will be the first of Nintendo's gaming revolution

Controlling The Plumber

Nintendo has really constantly considered to revive a lot of their classic video games for other systems, or newer versions for the latest generation of gamers. That was really a surprise for Nintendo fanatics with the release of their latest video game creation, the Nintendo DS handheld system. As well as creating new games, they glanced into their vaults, and revived a classic. Super Mario 64, was a ground-breaking and exciting video game for the N64 video game system in 1996, and it was just a masterpiece for all gamers alike. However, that game was truly amazing, remastering a triumph is just anything but intense to all.

Super Mario 64 DS, for Nintendo's DS system, has a lot of the same fatures and stories from the previous N64 game, but there are just so many twists here. The game also has a lot of twists, as you play not just Mario, you also control Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario as well. The game also has new extras including new bosses, and mini-games for all. The graphics and the game revised is just amazing. Yet, there are a few downsides with this version. One of those happens to be control. It is a lot harder to control all the characters here with the touchpad, instead of the easy to use analog controller from the N64 version. Another problem is the music and the graphics weren't remastered as well as the classic version, but that is alright because most of the original music and gameplay is really there.

All in all, Super Mario 64 DS fairs quite well for anybody who has the desire to own the new Nintendo DS system. However, for some, they'll just consider going back to the classic N64 version, because it is a little easier to play. Nevertheless, it isn't a bad thing, but Super Mario 64 DS is a game that really is exciting for so many.

Portable Mario 64? Sounds good to me

If your like me and think that Mario 64 is easily one of the best Mario games as well as one of the best games period, then you will definitely want to get this game for the new Nintendo DS. Now I got this game on launch day along with the system and although I have already beaten it once, it hasn't stopped me from playing again. One of the problems that many people have been complaining about with this on the DS is that the control schemes are bad no matter which one you choose. Well, I think the controls are perfect and have never had a problem on here. In some places, the camera can be a hindrance but its nothing that ruins the game in any way. All the good memories you have of this on the N64 will surely return when playing this game along with some new areas as well as the ability to play as multiple characters besides just Mario. There are also new minigames that are a addicting to play and also make great use of the new touchscreen on the DS. Overall, if you are a fan of this game or the Mario games in general, then you will want to have this one in your collection.

I really enjoyed this game! There are many different, challenging levels to play and 150 stars to obtain. Though the story itself isn't very interactive with the touch screen, all of the minigames require use of the stylus. Thirty-six minigames are playable that involve card games, action games, thinking games, and luck games. There is a two to four player verses mode, however it's not very fun because each course has a very small time limit. This game will keep you busy and entertained (in one player for the most part), and I recommend it. 4 stars!

I advise that you get this game. It has amazing 3d graphics and cool minigames. You can play as either Yoshi,Mario,Luigi or Wario in a large aray of levels. It mixes fighting, platform jumping, and exploration all in to one. It is a challenging game and I have spent about 20 hours on it and have still not completed it. Your mission is to save the princess by finding all the stars in the specifice levels you have to unlock the mario brothers later in the game. This is definitely worth the cash. A must have game for your Nintendo ds library.
