A+++, if it wasn't for one con

This game was great and is worth buying. First of all, the audio. It was very well done, and translated from the Nintendo 64 with better audio, and I would give maybe a 10/10. Next are the graphics. It was great for a DS game, but wasn't completely advanced. But, they're still A+ graphics. (for a DS game) So, I'll give the graphics a 9/10. Next up... the controls. They really didn't nail it completely, but it was way better than decent. I would give the controls a 9/10. The features in the game were wonderful. The multiplayer was a let-down, but the 1 player mini-games were very enjoyable. The added areas in the 1 player map made it a more enjoyable experience. But, who could forget about the 3 added characters. They were Yoshi, Wario, and Luigi. You actually begin with only Yoshi, but then comes good old Mario who gets the flying power. Luigi, who comes next, has the vanishing power. While Wario, being last but not least, gets the metal power. (Mario can fly, Luigi can go through walls, and Wario can walk underwater) Of course, they have to find a box that contains a flower, that will give them the powers temporarily. So, the features get 10/10, even though I disliked the multiplayer mode. Finally, here comes the gameplay. It was so fun going through different levels as 4 different characters, unlockiing different mini-games, collecting to have success in your journey, but here comes the con. I bet at least half of the buyers have played the original Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64, right? Well, those of you that have played it for a long time, you're going to be sick of this gameplay, because the 1 player mode is not much different. The four characters, in the original Mario all 3 special powers that I typed earlier in the review. The main difference is a few more levels and 30 more stars, I mean that isn't much different, so some of you will be disappointed, like I was, with the 1 player mode. So, I give the gameplay a 7/10. If I was newcomer, I would probably give it a 9/10 for its bad multiplayer. Overall, it's a 9/10. So, buy it now!!!

Wow! CanDS really handle these graphics?!?

In thought this game will be the best game that DS will have to offer. But lets think back when Nintendo 64 was the coolest system ever. Super Mario 64 was the best on that. I know personally because I used to have.(Now I cashed it in for the DS)This game has a very good story line, not mentioning the overall game. It had great grahpics. And the funny thing was that when you turned on the game you saw Mario and you got to move his face around. But getting back this game. It is improved because you get to play as 4 characters, Mario; Luigi; Wario; and Yoshi. This is great because it still holds the same graphics as on the 64. I saw some pictures of this game, and truly it is AWESOME. If you are buying the Nintendo DS, this game is a must have.

One of the best is back: Smaller and better than ever!!

"Super Mario 64" for the original Nintendo 64 is considered by many to be one of the best video games ever made. It took the enormous popularity of the side-scrolling Super Mario games and evolved it into a mind-bending, three-dimensional adventure that thoroughly pleased existing fans while enthralling a whole new generation of gamers.

The gameplay, design, and challenge of "Super Mario 64" is still as cutting-edge today as it was when it was first released in 1996. So, it should come as no surprise that Nintendo would take one of its most popular games ever and port it as the debut game for its new handheld device, the Nintendo DS. The result is "Super Mario 64 DS" which, in almost everyway, is superior to its spectacular predecessor. Once you get past the simple amazement of being able to play this remarkable game on a handheld device, you start to take notice of all the ways they were actually able to improve on the original.

As with the original "Super Mario 64", the objective (other than defeating Bowser and rescuing the Princess, which it is in every game. Boy that Princess sure knows how to find trouble!) is to gather as many Stars as possible from the 15 different worlds hidden throughout the castle, whether they be in a painting or some other strange location. In the original, there were 7 Stars to be found in each world, along with 15 Stars hidden at random places throughout the castle, for a total number of 120 Stars. While obtaining 70 was all that was required to face the final battle with Bowser, most dedicated gamers went for the gold and all 120 Stars.

The difference with "Super Mario 64 DS" is that they have raised the ante. Now, there are 8 stars in each world and 30 HIDDEN Stars throughout the castle, making the total 150 Stars. The extra 30 Stars create a compelling additional level of challenge for the gamers. Especially where the 15 new hidden Stars are concerned, it feels like a whole new dimension of adventure has been added to this game. It should also be noted that Nintendo reviewed the gameplay of the original and realized that there were several Star objectives that were simply tedious and aggravating to obtain. So, Nintendo either scaled back some of the difficulty or replaced them entirely with brand new objectives. The difference is striking. One doesn't feel any less challenged in these objectives, but one also doesn't get bogged down with frustrating objectives that are more annoying than anything else.

There are some other changes to this game, as well. In additional to the vastly improved graphics, there is a major change to the gameplay. The main method of moving around in the original game was with the analog stick located in the center of the control pad. Obviously it would not be feasible to design that into the DS. So, much more substantial control has been ceded back to the directional control pad on the left and the results leave very little noticeable difference. For those who still love the idea of the center control, the DS' thumb device for the touch screen can let you get that analog stick control. Nintendo also improved the control of the camera angles from which you can view your progress. Whereas in the original, you could find yourself spending as much time fighting the camera controls as trying to achieve the objective, the camera is much smoother this time.

One final change that the designers made to set "Super Mario 64 DS" apart from the original, and make it more compelling, was now you get to play as FOUR different characters instead of just Mario. Luigi, Yoshi, and even Wario have made the trip this time, and each one helps out in a different way. Some of the switch caps that Mario used in the original to be able to become invisible or be `Metal Mario' are now the special skill of the other characters (Luigi: invisibility. Wario: Metal). So, now there has be some strategy involved into how one tackles each objective. It truly enhances the overall game.

"Super Mario 64 DS" has thrown down the gauntlet for Nintendo in the next generation of handheld gaming wars. If the other DS games continue to match level perfection witnessed by this game, Nintendo will continue to dominate the portable world.

A Unique Game with a Twist

Super Mario 64 DS is a great game. If you have played the Nintendo 64 version you no what I mean. Exept this is different.

There are 3 new charecters to this game: Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario, You can play the game like the original but with the stylus you can do things that are really cool. There are more levels on this game, which highly improves gameplay. You go through and find Keys in the castle. These keys unlock special doors which either open doors to new levels or doors to new charecters like the ones I already mentioned above.

Like any other Mario game you have two goals, defeat the evil Bowser and free the princess from the castle. During the game you can switch charecters on each level (optional), you collect coins, defeat bad guys and the bad guy bosses. To beat the game you need to collect power stars. There are 150 stars that you have to collect.

Another twist to this game is there are mini games that you can unlock and play. Some of them are as fun as the actual game, but some are very dumb. Still this game is great and with the graphics you just have to buy this. It is well worth your money because it has so much gameplay you will never get bored.

Super Mario 64 DS is the best game on the Nintendo DS so far, and it deserves more than stars I would give it a thousand. I promise you will love this game if you buy it.

This is a great game. The graphics are excellent. It is a lot like Super Mario 64 for the N64. I still like it because the graphics are better than the N64 which makes it look real. An excellent edition to any Mario fan.

When I first opened the game, I was hooked. It's fun to collect the hundreds of stars, and be Yoshi,Wario,Luigi and of course Mario. The challenges were also great, and the game adds to the life of Nintendo.

Hi, Skullface here,
I've never played this game before but I've beaten the game for Nintendo 64. My friend has it, and I've heard that there's a minigame place in the recroom. It took me 4 years to beat this game for nintendo, but my friend took him about 3 weeks and he has 80 stars! If you get 120 stars, you blast out of the cannon outside and you meet a green pal! He gives you 100... I've said too much already! Just play the game and you'll find out!

Mario has been out long since i was born. Its one of the best games that was played back then. when technology has grown, graphics and gameplay has improved. storyline was based on the original Nintendo's Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64. They made improvements on the new version on the DS. they included some characters that you can play and some new levels were added to the game. I believe before, the Nintendo 64 version, Super Mario 64 is a game where you have to save princess toadstool and other specific things. you also have to collect certain stars to get to certain places. In the Nintendo 64 version, you have to collect 120 stars while the new verion on the Nintendo DS, you have to collect 150 stars, Making this game longer, harder and much more fun. I rate this game a 5 out of 5.

Some technical features of this game from the offical Nintendo Website:

Features

* Play as Mario, Yoshi, Luigi and even Wario. You'll need to use each one's unique abilities to find 150 Power Stars hidden in the castle and grounds.
* Play through Adventure mode and try your stylus-wielding hand at tons of new touch-sensitive mini-games.
* Battle up to three friends in Wireless Versus mode, which you can play with only one Super Mario 64 DS game card.

Each of the four main characters has multiple jumping moves that cover great horizontal and vertical distances. Each has unique moves: Yoshi can eat enemies and turn them into eggs that he can throw; Mario can punch, kick and wall-jump to great heights; super-strong Wario can break certain blocks; and Luigi can jump incredibly high. Power Flowers give each character even cooler powers, like invisibility, fire breath or the power to float through the air.

Story

Answering an invitation, Mario, Luigi and Wario set out for a royal party with Princess Peach. When they arrive at the castle, though, they find it strangely empty. Meanwhile, Yoshi awakes from a rooftop nap to find the castle eerily silent, with Mario, Luigi and Wario nowhere to be seen. Yoshi soon discovers that Bowser has pilfered the castle's Power Stars and imprisoned the Toads in the castle's immense collection of paintings. It's up to the dynamic dino to figure out what happened to Mario, Luigi and Wario and save the day.

Bottom Line

Super Mario 64 DS is much more than just a port of the Nintendo 64 version of the game. New worlds, new characters, new moves and the addition of action-packed minigames make this title bigger and better than ever before!

This game is so far the best game for Nintendo DS. Well, why don't I just explain the pros and the cons?

PROS
-NOT JUST A REMAKE! No, it isn't a remake, although many people think it is. In this game, there are 150 stars (30 more than the origional), 36 addictive touch screen mini games, and 4 different playable characters. Of course, there are many more differences, such as the extra levels.
-GREAT SOUND! What can I say, sounds like the origional.
-GREAT GRAPHICS! These graphics surprised me, they are BETTER than the origional!
-NEW MAP ON BOTTOM SCREEN! This map is VERY helpful, but at the same time doesn't make the game too easy.
-MINI GAMES ARE WONDERFUL! They make great use of the touch screen, and they are addictive.

CONS
-NOT ENOUGH TOUCH SCREEN USE. Great for minigames, but hard to use as a virtual analog stick in the main game.
-VOICE ECHO GLITCH. Not a major con, but still very annoying. Every once in a while, the voices become echoed and sound strange, and they stay like that until you turn off the game.

As you can see, the pros weigh out the cons, earning this game a perfect 5 out of 5.
