This game really gets away from the mundane Doom-esque games that require no brainpower other than switching weapons. Although it is FPS (like doom) tactics are much more important (ie. dropping to the ground when an enemy hears your footsteps).
With all the FPS on the market, this one is a diamond in the rough.
Pretty Frekin Good For New-Comer German-Company!!!

Wow is the only way to describe the graphics...wow!! I'm not going to bore you with the same crap everyone else is writing, but I just wanted to give some inspiration to some people if they started off the same way I did. I first hear of the game when I got the demo. I played it, thought it was alright, but nothing I'd like to waste my time playing. So I dismissed it as crap I wouldn't miss. I read a couple reviews and every one said the game could easily compare to what Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 will be like. Long story short, I bought the game and wow. Do yourself a favour, do NOT miss out on this game. Good games like this need your support so that they can make more kick a** games.
Great Graphics and Play!

I am not a typical first-person shooter type especially when all I owned just a year ago was rts and flying sims but when I heard about FC and it's awsome interface I had to buy it............and they were right!
First of all, the graphics like everyone is saying are awesome even set on the lower settings. From banana trees to tropical fish to jungle birds, it's simply breath taking! The water looks real with coral planet awaiting just below.
The gameplay is awesome! I never thought a game could be sooooo much fun. They react just like they would almost in real life but I wouldn't know since I have not fought in any wars or shot up any islands for a nuke.
What amazed me was the weapons and driving the vehicles around, not that easy as some people have said but it just might be me?
The only thing I thought they could have added as far as driving the vehicles goes is flying helicopters but that would give you to much of an advantage. The other FPS type games never sounded interesting to me because of it being so violent or just re-living WW2 or Vietnam but for the most part blowing away bad guys and creatures that will never die no matter how many times you shoot them seems morally OK with me. Overall, I am really impressed with the game and recommend it to any gamer out there hardcore or not!
A fluid cross between Splinter Cell and Half-life

This is the greatest FPS to date, hands down. The graphics engine is the most ambitious I've ever encountered, lush jungle foliage and waving grass are only the beginning. Do play this game with some good headphones, as the sounds of this world will immerse you. The enemy AI will give most players a serious run for the money. Enemies will lay down cover fire while their comrades try to flank you. They'll never send a lone unlucky soldier after you if you flee. Expect at least a pair to be sweeping the area for you. Some enemies will actually seek a strategic position and await your return. Others will hose bullets into the foliage where you last disappeared, hoping for a lucky hit, while some will panic and pump ammo all over the place. Stealth tends to be the quickest and safest way through many situations (your "6th sense" stealth-meter tells you when someone can see you). But it's certainly not mandatory, just expect your killing spree to be a very challenging affair. Be warned, though: a powerful system is needed to run this game in its full glory. I'm running a 2.8ghz pentium 4 prescott processor, and a Radeon 9800 pro video card.
nearest thing to hl2 and doom3

first off i am a huge fan of doom and half-life and if you are waiting for doom3 or Hl2 then get this game it has great graphics and good AI.
the story is very intresting but i wont spoil it.
it also has drivable vehicles which are great fun to drive
i must warn you though my computer is 1.200 mhz, geforce 4 mx440 128 ddr ram and 512 memory and it only runs on low detail so you may have to upgrade for this game and those to come eg. hl2, doom3.
overall it is a great game and i love it so go buy it as soon as possible but make sure your pc is at least as good as mine or check the back of the box to make sure it will run on your pc
hope this was of help,
huge hl and doom fan.

I have to hand it to UBISOFT as they have finally produced a game with stunning visuals and effects that buries the competition hands down. The most awesome thing is the feasability of the terrain. If you hide in the grass you are actually hidden, you can also throw rocks to distract enemies or toss a grenade to give them the rest of their life off. This game rocks in all aspects except one. Frankly put, the multiplayer "blows" and I mean REAL BAD! If you are fortunate enough to stay connected more than 5 minutes or spawn and receive your weapon with a reasonable time (under 2 minutes) you will enjoy it. If you are looking for the most beautiful multiplayer environment you have ever seen, this is definitely a find. However if you are planning to run around and see the environment be prepared for the roller coaster ride of a lifetime as you frequently disconnect, reconnect and get rejected because your CD key is invalid...um no wait its okay welcome back.... (I am sure you get the idea). No other game I have seen can come close to Far Cry when it comes to overall eye candy and playability. The single player game is challenging enough to keep you occupied as well as the AI which is pretty decent save a few bugs where the soldiers do stupid things while you pick them off just outside the range of their guns. I have heard that the game murders a high-end 3GHz+ machine but I am only running a P4 2.4GHZ HT 800MHz FSB on an Intel D865PERL Motherboard with 1GB Kingston HyperX DDR 3200 and a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 and the game works just fine with the settings maxed out. As for the connection I am running 3.4MBps cable and have one of the lowest pings in the room when I get disconnnected. I in no way recommend passing this game up at all I am just warning you that the multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired and if you are one that only plays online this title will test your tolerance. I am sure a patch will eventually be released to alleviate the issues but right now I'll stick to single player.

To the Customer from Oxford, MA, USA who thinks he has a fairly new PC, the problem is not with Far Cry. The problem lies with your Nvidia Fx-5200 video card. This Card is a very low end gaming card. If you'd like to enjoy your computer and this game to its fullest I suggest that you upgrade your card to an Fx 5900 or 6800 series card when it hits the North American market in late May 2004. Your other option is an ATi 9600Xt or 9800 pro or Xt Card. Either one of these cards will enhance your gaming experience to the fullest.

Before I start I would like to say that in the past, I havn't been able to play a game that has captured the a story like half life did until NOW!
Far cry is one of the best FPS shooters with a story to come along with the same lv of greatness since well half life. The makers have made no expense in lack of effort, graphics are as real as they can get "today" with water that would just make you want to cry, everything is so detailed and real that it is like you real where on a tropical island.
Sound is great with support for real time audigy support so everything sounds the way it should be.
Gameplay and multi player will keep you playing for at least 40 hours or more for single player alone and that is not a light thing to say for a first person shooter.
A.I. is smart but not to smart that they know you are there when the shouldnt see you, only way I can say that its so great is because they use real time thinking and things around them for cover, get help or run away, but remember if you can see them, they can see you.
I have to give this game a 5/5 I cannot find anything wrong with it, if you love shooters or story action rpg type style then pick it up!

If you haven't tried FarCry yet, do yourself a favor and order it or buy NOW... The graphics, details, missions, weapons, are all first rate. Its no wonder it was the Game of the Year in 2004! I started with the easiest level and worked my way up to the most difficult level, I now only play the most difficult level and Never get tired of the missions, landscape, and vehicle operation and it is also Great that it is not so linear, You make the choices, and there are plenty of them, sneak in/around with stealth or go in- guns blazing, its all up to you.You can operate gunships,hang-gliders,and many types of armed vehicles, enough to satisfy anyone. Unlike Doom3 (dark and mostly takes place inside, I also love Doom 3/Quake4) FarCry takes you from beautiful tropical islands, to many structures with challenging competition from above average AI. I continue to play and replay this game and Never tire of it. See and play for yourself, but, be prepared to get addicted... The good news, FarCry2 is on the way... the bad news... not until late Oct/2008... Reload and play!!! If you crave action, excitement, and a first person shooter, say no more!

Great game and very challenging. Tons of action and new sequel called Crysis. This game (FarCry) might be a couple of years old, but it will still keep you glued to your PC for hours of excitement.
Game arrived on time, just as I expected it to.
