I loved this game, the realism of the weapons and how much you can goof around between objectives, its gr8. Anyways, this game is worth the money you are thinking about paying for it. Happy Hunting, and Killer Gaming!!

Lots of fun, and very non-linear

This game is great because 1) the monsters scare the poop out of me, 2) there are multiple ways to clear the levels, and 3) the long-range visibility makes it more fun.

I just installed this game on a brand-new Dell and have had zero problems.

Each level seems to be set up so you can advance using stealth techniques. There are little things set up to create distractions, etc. Of course I play by killing every living thing but I am not creative either. I'm starting to add stealth to my "skills" and this game lets you try different approaches to solving problems. You can go in guns blazing, you can sneak in, or you can use the great visibility along with cover/concealment to pick off the opposition as they attack you piecemeal. Fun!

finally, a good game w/ crazy graphics!!!

when i first tried this game the first word i could say was "wow".
usually, games with really good graphics dont have much of anything else(or vice versa) but far cry is a "far cry" compared to other 1st person shooters. first off, this game is actually fun. there are many weapons and vehicles and for you "realistic freaks" if you get hit a few times, u will die(be prepared to get killed by a grunt) and the phisics are top notch. the graphics are unbelievably good. there hasnt been many games with this much graphics quality for a long, long time. the water reflects, the plants look very detailed with leaves, grass, stems, etc. and the blood looks real too. oh ya even sensitive gamers can play this game cuz there are options where you can take out all the blood and gore(even though then its kinda unrealistic and boring...). the sound is... ok. the music and effects are great but the mercenary's taunts sound like something from a low voiced but bad acting person. the replayability is VERY high. plus there's an pretty good multiplayer mode, so you wont put this game down for a long, long, logn time. my final opinion is, if you're gonna buy a game like call of duty or half life, get farcry next; it fits with the classics

Friggin Awesome!!

I have been playing this game on my brothers computer and have gotten about halfway through the game. After basically living in my brother's house for a month, I decided I needed to play this on my own computer. My computer was too slow to run it, so i BUILT MYSELF A NEW COMPUTER TO PLAY THIS GAME!! That is how amazing it is. A must have. Graphics are awesome, Sound is awesome, the AI learns from their mistakes and will even sneak up behind you in formation. A MUST HAVE!!

Best FPS game I've ever played. Period.

Soooooo detailed. Such cool weapons. Appropriately challenging if you want it to be. Huge maps, based on non-linear foot, car, and boat travel (e.g. not like Medal of Honor and others). I don't play many games 2-3 times, but this one I did. If you like First Person Shooters, this is the best game out there. By far.

4.5 stars is more like it

This is the most immersive game I have ever played since Max Payne. It is hands down the most awe-inspiring, fun, great game in quite awhile. It is far from perfect though. If you don't have the absolute latest and greatest directx9.0 video card, don't bother, because you are going to struggle to run this game at acceptable frame rates.
The game is also considerably difficult, which make for a frustrating 3-4 hour learning curve. That being said, Far Cry is the most graphically advanced game on the market, hands down, and I believe the first to use Microsoft's Shader Model SM 3.0, which requires a SM 3.0 compatible hardware. Right now the only video card that supports SM 3.0 is the new Nvidia 6800 series which is just now hitting vendors...ATI's new X800 series will not support SM 3.0 or the new features of Direct X9.0c. SM 3.0 is part of Microsofts new release of directx9.0c which is really like directx 10.0 since it includes new features that only DX9.0c compatible video cards can take advantage of. So, Far Cry is the most visually advanced game period, but u need the hardware which means at least a directx9.0a compatible video card. If u have the video card, go buy this game crank up the 5.1 or headphones and prepare to be amazed.

Don't Hesitate..........Buy It

I've played a lot of first person shooters, and I think this is the most unique of them to date. Graphics are excellent, and speed is good as long as you go with the recommended settings.

The only thing I had problems with was the installation. The first time I tried it it kept crashing asking me for the first CD. When I'd put it in, it would ask me for CD #3, etc. Then it would ask me for CD 1 again.......this went back and forth for a while. Finally, I restarted the install and everything worked perfectly. I believe this may be a bug due to the anti-copying features on the disc.

In spite of this, don't hesitate. Buy this game!

you need a VERY good PC

in response to:

"I have a fairly new PC - P4, 2.8 GHz, 1 MB RAM, GE Force FX 5200 128MB Graphics card, and the game barely works. What a waste of money."

your problem is your video card....

the game costs as much as the video card itself...do you see the problem?

you will need to run a 9800 pro to have the game look amazing...you need something even better and lots of ram combined with at least a 3.0 ghz CPU to run everything at maximum without lag and still get a decent frame rate.

Best fps i've played in a while...worth the buy...reminds me of a few doom3 screenshots later in the game.

Crying for more

I'm usually not the type of person to play one game several times after beating it. As a matter a fact, this is the first game I have EVER played a second time, and Im sure when im done with my second time, ill be crying for more.

This is arguably the most innovative FPS ever, simply because of the scope of the enormous map (if you see it, you can get there)and choices you must make to survive. Its also important that any choice you make, isnt necessarily the wrong one. There are almost infinite ways to reach your goal. There are no load points, until you reach your mission objective (21 mission objectives in all with about 7 check-points each), which means you can go from one end of the island to the other (and ajoining isles) without a single load. Dont feel like hiking it, take a truck, boat or even a hang glider. Which ever way you choose, be ready for the enemy. They will try to flank you, they will sound alarms, they will call for reinforcements. Its your choice whether to run around guns blazing or take your time finding the best way to defeat them. This game simply molds to your playing style... your not forced to mold your playing style to the game. You dont have to shoot the enemy to kill them either.... hit them with a truck, shoot the chain on a hanging crate to crush them, shoot explosive barrels to blow them up, cut the ropes on a wood bridge to watch them fall to their death, or my personal favorite.... speed up to them in your truck aiming for an explosive barrel and bail out at the last minute to watch them fly in a blaze fire and shrapnel.

Lets now talk about graphics and sound. This is the first game ever to succede in creating a lush jungle enviornment to play in. The trees sway in the wind and the water looks so real youll want to take a swim with the fish. Dragonflies buzz close by as beatifully rendered birds fly overhead. The lighting and shadows are amazing. When indoors, shoot a hanging light and watch the lighting spray across the walls and floor... youll be amazad. If you take a few moments while in the middle of the jungle to just sit still... you can hear the wildlife all around... you might just forget youre playing a game. You'll be awestruck by the outdoors, and when playing indoors you may get a little creeped out, especially with some of the scripted events (ie Aliens -vs- Predator and Halflife style). I got so used to playing on the island, that when I had to play indoors... it felt very claustraphobic. An excellent mix of enviornments, however... the indoor missions are a bit more linear than the outdoor missions.

There are a few cons to this game, but dont let them discourage you. This is a MUST BUY game.

First, vehicle control can be aggrivating. Its damn near impossible to drive and shoot the mounted gun at the same time. I finally gave up and just started running people over, or jumping out of the vehicle when I met alot of resistance.

Secondly are some bugs which have been encountered, mostly having to do with video card and driver problems. This can cause your frame rate to drop drastically in the middle of gameplay. this is addressed and remedied by the free patch which ubisoft released for the game on their website. I suggest downloading it. You may also encounter imperfections in the video, like blocking or seeing grids within the map. If you encounter this problem, turn your shadow detail to medium and it will go away. Lastly is the game shutting down in the middle of gameplay. This has happend to me only three times... and I put in over 30 hours of gametime, perhaps not that big of a deal. At the moment, There is no known fix for this.

Vehicle control and video bugs caused some annoyances which is the only reason this game didnt get a 5 star rating. I still highly recommend this game to any fan of the genra. It will definitly hold you over until HALF LIFE 2 and DOOM 3 arrive.

I would like to finish by stating that I played the game the first time on a TI4400 128 NVIDIA card (a bit outdated). In order for smooth gameplay... everything had to be set on medium. I recently purchased a 5900 FX card and can play with everything set on HIGH to EXTRA HIGH (aside from shadow detail because of bug). It is definitly more enjoyable with a high end card, but can still be played and enjoyed with mid range cards too.
