Simply the best FPS I've played since Half Life. Outstanding AI, best landscaping, water, light effects I have ever seen. Unfortunately I can't even put the graphics settings above low because of the system requirements. Am running a 2.4 GHz P4 with 512m DDR RAM and NVIDIA GeForce4 MMX (64 m).
If you are only going to buy a couple of games this year (already have my $$ ready & waiting for Half Life 2) and like FPS's, you'll not regret buying Far Cry!

If your computer can handle it this game is awesome. I know for a fact that hardware upgrades make the game better as I went from a 9600 pro to a 9800xt and its amazing.

Far Cry opened a new era in FPS gaming, with plenty of open spaces vs. the small tunnels we were used to play on in Quake and Unreal clones over the years. It brought a graphic to die for, and amazingly it was running OK on a machine that wasn't your yearly salary. I was playing Quake for years, and didn't want to accept the fact that somebody else can make a FPS that can beat all the competition like Far Cry did to all the games that came on the market in the last few years. Very, very nice, I highly recommend it to everybody.

FAR Cry PC Game is one of the best PC fps Games I have played till date. The CD rom product quality was acceptable and graphics were ok. Probably a DVD original would be better.
Wow! After more than 2 years - still there is disbelief.

I picked up this game quite late. Nearly two years after it's initial launch. And that is, according to me, the best time to pick up great games at a bargain and when all the kinks and bugs have been worked out and when the best recommended video card is available quite economically. On a Radeon X1300 video card this game looks amazing. I do not have a typical gaming rig but the performance of this game is simply amazing. The kind of textures, ambience, foliage, particle physics this game has to offer is stunning to say the least. Realism is what true gaming is all about and this game delivers. For example the scope on a sniper rifle, on full magnification of the target, shows the natural movement of the hand holding the rifle. This is the kind of stuff you can appreciate if you've used a telescope and looked at a distant object. This is a game that sets the bar for future games and two years later I see that FarCry is still world class. Perhaps the XBOX edition released recently could be a natural step up. This game should be a part of every game collection.
A Great Game - completely engaging and challenging

FarCry rates as great with my other most memorable gaming titles.(see below) FarCry was a true step forward in visual quality and the intelligence of the adversaries. FarCry is great mix of indoor levels and also large outdoor landscapes to travel over.
A great game really takes you in and you feel like you have been in the game's world after playing for an hour or so.
Other games I rate as great:
Unreal
Quake II
Halflife - I and II
MDK
Descent II
Hitman
Ghost Recon
Splinter Cell
Max Payne
Deus Ex
Myst
Arguably the best FPS ever made.

I recently picked this game up because the laptop I had purchased for college was finally a computer powerful enough to run it. It is easily one of the best computer games I've ever played. The playing world is massive (you can literally walk to any mountain or monument you see in the distance) and there are multiple ways to accomplish a goal and/or solve a mission.
The basic plot is this: you are Jack Carver, who has accompanied a woman to a part of Micronesia for undisclosed reasons (she turns out to be a CIA agent), and before long she is kidnapped, and you are fighting for your life against an army of well-trained mercenaries. It's a fairly generic shooter plot, but it gets the point across and ties everything together well.
The enemy AI is unbelievably good. The soldiers work together to take you down (all the while dropping hilariously bad one-liners like "HOW DO YOU LIKE THOSE APPLES??", "RIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES, MOFO!", "I'M GONNA TEAR YOU A NEW ONE!!"). The shootouts that result in this game are a blast: you really have to get good cover and strategize your fight. It's the first shooter I've played that makes me feel like I'm actually in an action movie.
The vehicles are one of the game's biggest highlights. If you want to move quicker downstream, you can snipe at occupants of the frequent patrol boats on the water and steal their ride. You can often obtain RVs and ATVs (and at one point in the game, a forklift for reasons unknown). These are a blast as you can drive right through the enemies firing at you. One thing I enjoy doing is driving full speed at an enemy and bailing out at the last second. Always good fun.
The game is also a great challenge. I just completed the game on the Medium setting and it was still almost impossible in places. Fighting the trigens (the small monkey-like creatures with claws) is a nightmare on any diffculty, as they can outrun and outJUMP you and kill you with, often, a single hit (I strongly suggest using the sniper rifle or a powerful machine gun other than the M4 on them at long distance before they really mess you up!)
In short, this is the best FPS I have ever played, and probably one of the best computer games ever made overall. Highly recommended.
(on a side note: not that it matters to me, but I'm personally surprised this game got a Mature rating...there is barely any blood at all, and none of it sticks on the floor. And when shot with a rocket launcher, people don't explode like normally in Mature-rated shooters. This game SHOULD have been rated TEEN).

This game I purchased for my sons. They both told me they enjoyed this game. A little tough at first but with any new game, you have your challenges. If you want a game that is not too easy, this is the one! Have fun and don't let losing take the fun away. It is a game to be played and it will enhence your skills.
Exciting tactical FPS Game!

I was hearing and reading all the rave over this game, and I finally got it myself. As you can tell by my giving it a high "star" rating, I really like it, so I'm a raver now. However, if you've not played it but are used to First Person Shooter (FPS) games, you may find this one somewhat unique.
The main difference between Far Cry and other popular FPS games like the Halo and Doom series, is this game is not as fast paced. Far Cry requires more sneaking around, use of cover, diversions, etc. All in all, it requires more of a tactical approach, rather than a "bust in the room and mow 'em down with the shotgun" approach. But still, there are certainly intense moments on just about every stage where the action is hot.
On the technical side:
This game is very robust and requires an array of strong computing components to run it. The install requires 4GB. I have a Dell w/a 2.6 GHz processor, 512 MB of Ram, and a 64 MB GEForce 4 MX video card. It runs the game no problem, but I had to do one little code modification regarding DirectX 9.0, but that was easy. I would highly recommend a 128 MB video card so you can run the game on richer graphic settings.
If you are like me, and you prefer using a game pad rather than the keyboard & mouse, you're out of luck. There's just no option for any other method of control. However, as much as I prefer my Logitech Rumble Pad, I've found that the keyboard/mouse is just fine for this game, actually the precision of a good mouse is probably preferable.
So, if you haven't got it yet, check it out!!
