I have just started playing this game over the weekend. After some initial crashes (due to my not having the latest video drivers) the game has ran VERY well. No crashes, no real lag. This game will be a tremendous amount of fun as I play it more. I am very busy and have found that even if you only get to play for a hour or two, you can still advance your character and have fun. You don't need to play for six hours at a time. This can make it fun even for the casual gamer.
This is an updated review because now AO is FULLY PLAYABLE

Anarchy Online(AO) did have major launching problems with things like stability, lag(which is still an issue in cities), and CD keys not being able to be registered. First off people are whining about these problems, but they should know that every massive online game is gonna have issues when it first comes out because companies like Funcom can never predict what problems might occur when there are thousands of people on a server. Besides these inicial problems, AO is definitely hands down, the best MMORPG. AO could be considered the best in its class because if offers everything games like EQ(Ever Quest) have and more, such as the ability to take on a mission at anytime. The graphics of AO are definitely far above average, with there amazing lighting, lush detailed enviroments, and even more detailed characters. The sound of AO is simply amazing with the orchestrated music as you walk over a hill as the sun is setting. The gameplay is much like EQ with some new twist and turns that make the game more addictive and fun. Overal Anarchy Online is by far the best MMORPG and any gamer should pick this title up.

seriously this is a great game-and its quite refreshing considering all of the fantasy MMORPGS out there-and I have played bother EQ and UO and i got bored after a while-its just the same old thing over and over and over.....but this handles everything differently. Sure it needs some serious patching but consider this-i owned Daggerfall way back in "the day" :) and it was as bad as this. Play that and you will never say another word about bugs overrunning a game again. Black & White is also pretty buggy-so be patient people. It is still a great game-just give it a chance...please? :P

Awesome game, Potential to be the new Big Kid on the Block for online RP.....But...
Currently game Lag can be Atrocious making the game almost impossible to play at peak times. There are still a few minor bugs that can interfere with play. Fortunately every time I log on, which is almost daily there is news of new fixes, and the Improvements that have occurred in the last few weeks alone have made at least for me, a significant improvement on game play.
Released a little early in my opinion, but more and more bugs are being fixed every day. Wait a few weeks and at the rate they are going the game should be everything that you could want in an online game. Unfortunately I'm still uncomfortable with recommending the game at this time. But like I said, it is getting better every day. My Recommendation is to watch this game and when the majority of the Lag problems are finally fixed, buy it immediately. Until then I'd hold off and wait.
Addictive and fun

AO has a lot to offer MMO gamers...detailed backstory, evolving world, continually improving quality, many social aspects, and some of the coolest sci-fi weapons and clothing/armor, large freedom of action....the major downside, however, is that there is so much freedom and so many choices to make, that it really takes some serious research to avoid gimping your character. overall, very fun and addictive.

This game is awesome. I've been playing it for awhile, I have not that many problems with lag accept for average MMORPG lag, and it runs on my relativly low end system. I have a 500 mhz Celeron, 256 ram (trust me, you need it a good supply of it in anything, and this is one of those "things"), 32 megabyte Nvidia GeForce 2, and a pretty stable cable connection. I get a ping of 56, better than many games I play. There's much depth in this game, and it's a lot of fun. The reason I say, "Great Support" is when I received the game it had an invalid cdkey, or it's been used, or something along those lines. I was MAD. I've read reviews that said it takes two weeks for Funcom to respond to a problem. This isn't true, unless your problem is relativly unimportant. But back to what I did. I e-mailed Funcom's support, giving all the details of my problem and offering to scan my cdkey to send it to them if needed be. So, I had some time on my hands, so I decided to read Akira volume 2, which I got for xmas.. yay!... When I was done, (this took about 10-15 minutes) I checked my e-mail. Inside was a nice little message giving me a new, working cdkey. Thumbs up, Funcom.
The best game ever!

This game beats any other MMORPG out there (I have tried them all!). Graphics and sound are out of this world, and gameplay is excellent. The game even has a story line!
The problems in the first few months after release have been taken care of with the latest patches. Enjoy!
Stay far far away from this joke of a game.

Anarchy Online paints a great first impression with the possibilities of what it could've been, but it goes straight down to hell afterwards. It lacks in every single possible area imaginable. All there is to do in the game is kill monsters, level, kill monsters, level, kill monsters, level. It get's very repetative, very fast. Although previous MMORPGs center their activity around this as well, they at least placed some effort into "decorating" this activity. In AO, nothing is done to hide it. Computer generated unique missions/quests, sounds like fun, until you find out they are NOT unique and they are NOT fun. There are about 5 mission descriptions, and they are re-used over and over again, with one key noun changed here and there. The dungeons generated are two-dimensional. In otherwords, you never find a room overlapping another. It's a maze of squared rooms interconnected by doors. i.e. You walk into one room and you find 3 doors to choose from. One in front, another to your and lasting another to you right. Sufficient to say, this is boring. Even your items are boring. They have about 20-30 items total!!! Armor and weaponry you were at level 1, you'll find yourself wearing at level 200. You're avatar is also limited by it's customization, i.e. you are only allowed to pick from a dozen faces or so. Making it so that you are running into your twin every few minutes, or maybe even tripplet! And these are just some of the gameplay issues, this list is miniscule compared to the list of bugs and unfinished sections of the game. If you buy this game, you are going to be basically paying a company to finish their 60% done game. And only that. You will only be paying, not playing. Because it is extremly difficult to play the game without crashing, disconnecting, freezing your machine, etc... And even if you are lucky enough to stay connected without these problems, the lack of things to do in the game would keep you from playing anyway. Also FunCom provides absolutely zero customer support. They've even gone as far as taking away their customer's ability to voice their opinionon their game, by moderating their forums for negative reviews.
